When the Heavens are Brass: Keys to Genuine Revival

Rate this book
Why are the heavens brass? What are the spiritual and eternal dynamics that prepare the soil of our hearts for revival? Pastor John Kilpatrick longed for revival. He ached for more than what he was seeing in the Church and in his own life. In this provocative book, John Kilpatrick shares the principles that prepared his church for God's sudden appearing on Father's Day, 1995, and for the mighty revival that followed.

I’ve always been fascinated by the great Revival that happened at Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola, Florida back the 1990’s. I recommend everyone look up the video clips on YouTube of their baptisms which were frequently filmed during the revival. The power of the Holy Spirit was so strong that most fell under the anointing during their baptisms, were slain in the spirit, or shook under this mighty outpouring. It’s all very moving and inspiring to watch. I recently came across this book on my mothers bookshelf and was shocked to learn Pastor John Kilpatrick wrote a book about the Revival.
Using Deuteronomy 28:23 as his basis for the book, he details how essential obedience to the word of God is if we wish for our prayers to be heard and to maintain clear communion with God. Starting in verse 15 of Deut. 28... “If thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy God to take heed to do all his commandments....and thy heavens which are over thy head shall be brass, and the earth which is under thee, iron.”
Kilpatrick describes in detail 8 obstacles to brass shattering prayer:
1. Unforgiveness
2. Regarding Iniquity
3. Prejudice
4. Judgement of others
5. Ignoring the poor
6. Teaching the commandments of men
7. Self-condemnation
8. Disrespect to spouses
Some other areas he covers are how fasting allows the river of the Holy Ghost to flow through you in powerful ways, how Satan attempts to hinder us using architects of evil if we are not careful to close the door on sin in our life, and how sexual relationships outside of marriage cause hindrances in our relationships with people and especially with God. He contends this is the number one hindrance to men’s prayer lives specifically creating a brass ceiling. He also ponders that the end to this revival would happen if men and women refused to OBEY the word of God in their personal lives after being touched by the power of God. This book was written during the Revival and knowing it only lasted a few years and did not spread throughout the country, one wonders if this hypothesis came to fruition.
Some of my favorite quotes of his in this book are:
“You deserve what you tolerate.”
“You can’t defy God’s Word without paying a price. Remember, God has life fixed so that it won’t work without Christ.”
“I’m not so sure that everyone who is in the Body of Christ will be in the Bride of Christ.”
“Obedience is all-important. This is why there will be many professors, but few possessors.”
Highly recommend this book for any Christian and specifically those who have a heart to see the Revival Fires poured out on our country once again as we approach the end time harvest of the ages.

What a fantastic little book, this book narrows into how obedience is the key to your relationship with God. If you seek revival in your life, church, community, nation, obedience is the only way to reach revival. Then John goes over ways that people are disobedient covering stubbornness, arrogance, our duty to the needy and downtrodden, good and bad sexual ethics and their results, and touches on communion and listening to your wife. Finally and I think most importantly John hammers home how important prayer is.
This book will show you the practical Keys to Genuine Revival in your life, your family, church, community, state, and nation.
