Dreams, Delusions and Made Decisions is a wonderful read which felt very personal. Reading through each poem was as if reading self-written letters of life experiences which I believe everyone has gone through within those lived years.
Nisa Lee's poems affect me in a way I think all good poems should - they make me feel. Sadness, joy, and melancholy are the emotions that make up this book of poems, bound together with an underlying theme of hope and self-love. The poet moves deftly across the many themes of the book, touching on themes like family, love and religion in a way that is instantly relatable to everyone I know who've read her book. Everyone needs a companion, at least of some kind, in undergoing the wear and tear, and the highs and lows of life, to remind ourselves that we're not alone in our feelings and thoughts. Nisa's writing in this book does just that. Maybe merely placing a rating on this book and writing a review based on one's own experience in reading it doesn't do much justice. Dreams, Delusions & Made Decisions captures the pain, confusion, of growing up that we all have felt in one way or another. And yet it has done so in an elegant way that you do not view your struggles as something daunting necessarily but as something beautiful as well. That life could be poetic with all the chaos that we witness. Nisa Lee is brilliant with her first book and looking forward to more in the future!
