Running by Itoro Udofia tells the story of a first generation Nigerian-American, straddling the line

I highly recommend this read! Itoro is a beautiful and highly descriptive storyteller and captivates the reader right from the beginning. I really enjoyed getting to know the main character, Arit, and learning about her passions, fears and resilience. This story touches on so many important and powerful topics that deserve your attention! It keeps me wanting more. Itoro Udofia is definitely someone to keep an eye on! Inspiring work.

Running is a piercing read. Itoro's writing is fluid and honest. There is an obvious vulnerability in the work that draws you in to Arit's character. There is a matter of fact honesty in the way that she bares her pain and indignation that is refreshing. It left me wanting more! ...more

This is a beautiful novella. The story is a compelling one: The daughter of Nigerian immigrants struggles to balance her family history, her New England reality, her mother's rigid Christianity, and the teenage ancestor talking in her ear. Even more compelling are Udofia's creative and often startling turns of phrase. I'm looking forward to reading more from this incredibly talented writer. ...more
