Aristocrat Margaret Addison leaves England in the seventeenth century to sail to the New World, where she survives a Mohawk massacre and is adopted by members of the Oneida tribe, who teach her the many strengths of their way of life
The Indian culture, is well described, with authentic names, well defined customs, and spirituality... The author does good job of describing the surrounding nature, places, and events. The characters were a bit flat, and mostly unlikable, with the exception of the Indians. A total disappointment. However if you are in to fairly well written Indian romances with a bit of historical info, this might be the book for you.
She is a strong English female who knows what she wants. He is an Oneidas Native who helps her. There are a lot of twists and turns in this story plus a lot of other characters so you sort of need to concentrate while reading. I usually just prefer the two main characters as the story can sometimes get complicated. This story held my interest and imagination so I'm glad I read it. The history was also fascinating. Look forward to reading the second book.
1697 New York tale of a saucy English woman rescued from the wilderness by Oneidas Warriors who agree to escort her to Quebec and her French fiancé. He's a womanizing scoundrel. The lead Warrior is tall, dark & sorta handsome. 3.5 stars rounded up.
I love how the author took her time to do the history of the native peoples to add authenticity to the plot and characters. It's depiction of the Native American peoples is almost reverent. It tended to drag on a bit for me as I was a young reader at the time but the storyline was quite an adventure and I liked that the romance part didn't eclipse the entire book.
I found this book when I was going through my mums book pile and it looked good so I read it. Native Americans have always been an interest to me since first grade when I did a project on Pocahontas. Anyway this was a good read since you get to see our main lady adapt to the new world around her and even fall in love, now that part was so good like you have too see for yourself because I can't review anything without spoiling the entire book.
