A thrilling new suspense trilogy with a twist. For a thousand years, an ancient and all-powerful vampire god has lain dormant in the Mayan jungle. In 1850, he awakes - and sets out for Europe...

Jack wants to believe it was only a dream, that the vampires are gone, that they've been banished by an ancient ritual that sent their leader to the depths of hell. But he isn't so sure. That voice still echoes in his mind - the voice of a vampire god promising to return. Jack's friends Ben and Emily say it's just his imagination, and he desperately wants to believe them.

While Victorian London may be safe, a strange sickness is raging in Paris. A familiar illness that leaves its victims drained of blood. It seems the vampires have moved on, and the fight must follow them....

This is one of those books where I have to think about it and I feel uncertain what kind of star rating I should give it. It certainly has lots of action and danger. Lots of intense situations where you are unsure how they are going to get out of it. Still something seems to be lacking? I am unsure what... Something with the characters? Yes I think that could be it.

While this is the second book in the series and I had not read the first one at all I think the characters do fall kind of flat? Emily seems to exist to be just the brains and seems to be mostly useful when things need translating. In fact the group of kids in here very much reminds me of the trio from the famous "Harry Potter" books. Emily would be Hermione who was the brainy one with her nose stuck in the book. Jack is wise and street smart and certainly notices lots of stuff, which makes sense as he is the main character. And Ben seems to be an add-on even though he was there throughout the entire story - he was the one I knew the least. There must be something wrong with the story if you read an entire 196 page book and you still feel you don't know the main characters!

Another character in here is Dominique who is a French girl. She speaks in a most unusual way and has an odd habit of repeating things. Yet somehow I ended up liking her the most? She was quite brave I think and she actually took a large role in here. She certainly had gone through a character arc while the others really hadn't changed at all. If the others had been written as well as she had been the story would have been much better. She certainly stole the show!

This book combines historical fiction, vampires and ancient Maya myths into an action type adventure. Lots of vampires in here! Many of the ever popular vampire myths are used as well like sunlight and mirrors. It was a quick read but it wasn't exactly satisfying. But it is entertaining. And since this is the middle book it leaves things to be settled in the third story. But this one does have its own conclusion. But do I find myself pondering what will happen in the third? Not really..

This book is about 3 friends named, Jack, Emily, and Ben. From the time they all meet up, they all have the same basic goal, which is to not only make it so the Vampire King Camazotz regain the ancient power he once had, but to kill him and make sure hes gone forever. In Paris Camazotz is searching for the pieces of an amulet that will allow him to gain the power necessary to become a god like figure. Already having 3 of the 4 pieces Jack, Emily, and Ben have no time to lose making sure he can not locate the 4th and final piece of the amulet. Thankfully, in their possession the trio has a piece of paper that serves as sort of a map to locate the last piece. Throughout the book these three go to very long distances, and exotic places to try and retrieve the piece they need. Also, running into all family members, reuniting with old friends, and rushing the gang is in a rush against time because the notorious Camazotz is on their tail.

I thought this book was really interesting, even though it was fiction is seemed to have my attention most of the time I was reading it. I thought the way the story flowed was really good because it never seemed like i had to worry about re-reading a section because it just melded together so well. I know were not in kindergarten, but I feel like word choice has a lot to do with the way a book reads, if someone uses to simple of a vocabulary it can be boring or too straight forward, but I think the vocabulary in this book was just right, I never had to wonder about the meanings of words but yet they still gave good imagery. I think this is definitely a good book to read, I read the other ones a good while ago, but it felt like just yesterday when I started up again. This would be a good book for anyone who's into vampires in the non-flashy mainstream make-up lathered, and sparkling way.

Out of all, I'd have to give this book an 4-5, because overall it was a very good read. Reading books in general usually doesn't interest me a whole lot, but this one had just what I was looking for. Action, adventure, as well as having characters somewhat my age that I could kind of connect too. Despite the fact that it is a bit fantasy-ish, I would definitely recommend this to someone who likes a little bit of excitement in their reading.

This book takes place in Paris in 1850 with Jack, a dark haired friend of the Coles, Emily Cole, a blonde hair girl that can translate Mayan hand writing, and the leader, Ben Cole, a brown haired kid whose dad died from vampires. They go to Paris with their old friend Professor Alfred to learn about the Mayans more, they thought the vampires were dead but to their surprise Alfred gets killed by the vampires. So they have to rely on Dominique's uncle to help them. Then Jack gets captured after he got lured into the sewers and Dominique saves him from the cell he was trapped in, but then she has to leave him and go tell the others because only she has the amulet of Chac which the vampires are scared of. Then they trade Camazotz the eye for their friend. When they go to get the old scripts they get attacked by vampires and Victome got turned into a vampire. So they are all by themselves. Then they try to trick Camazotz’s spies by saying they are going to Spain when they are actually going to Mexico to get the last piece to Camazotz’s amulet. As they are on the train to go to their boat Jack spots one of Camazotz's spies. Then when they are halfway to sea they see Camazotz flying above the boat, but he couldn't land because vampires have to be invited to come on or in a private residence\possession. I really liked the books I have read so far from this series and I would recommend this book to anyone who is into mythical creatures and action books.

The book Vampire Plagues Paris 1850 is about three kids named Jack, Emily, and Ben go to Paris with the professor named Professor Adensnap. They were just going there to figure out the Mayan puzzle but it just turned out to be an all-out war. They were just starting to talk about the Mayan puzzle when they all heard a scream and that is when the fight began. They thought all that time Camazotz was sent back to his sell that was in Hell but they were wrong. After the professor was killed by Camazotz they figured out three parts in the Mayan code. It was a thing that could kill all vampires. But why everyone else was trying to figure out the code Jack decided to run after a kid that was ease dropping and chased after him. The kid lead him to the sewers were the vampires set up a trap. After Jack caught up to him it was too late to turn around. The vampires grabbed him and through Jack in a sell. But that was when a girl was there and helped him out but Jack did not make it out. But then they made a trade with Camazotz for a piece of the puzzle for Jack but they faked Camazotz out and got Jack and left. Then the kids get caught trapped in the museum. But they got out and went back to the United States were they would travel from there to Mexico to get the last piece of the puzzle.

This is the second book in the Vampire Plagues series by Sebastian Rook.
Its a really unique, very original and enjoyable series dealing with Vamps.

Basically its up to 3 kids to fight a hoard of Vamps and their Master vampire, Camazotz. In the first book we travel from Mexico, where the horror begins, then travel by ship to England, where many perils await. From there in Book 2 we arrive in Paris for the next adventure or rather misadventure.
This is in the YA spectrum but any adult would enjoy this. There are many educational things to learn along the way, while traveling through these locations. Its so well written you can see, hear and smell the streets of Paris in the Victorian era. I look forward to reading book 3.

FYI: There are 6 books in this series.

In this story vampires were banished but the main character, Jack thinks it was a dream and vampires weren't actually banished. This book is called Vampire Plagues 1850 and it is written by Sebastian Rook and in this story it is about believing what others say and sometimes even if it sounds crazy.

This book is about vampires and what these people did to them and what the vampires did. Jacks friends banished vampires years ago and after that Jacks had been seeing visions of the vampires. He believes that they really didn't get banished and they are still here but his friends reassure him that they banished them to the depths of hell. The main plots are about Jack seeing the vampires and telling his friend that he can see them and they are still here. He also has been having nightmares of them as well and of them attacking him and trying to hurt him. He wakes up from them and sees them when he wakes up he tries to stab them with roses that should disintegrate them but its just normal people. Jack sees visions of them and no one believes him.

This book would appeal to people who like vampires and mystery kind of books. This would also be a good suspense kind of book for anyone who likes that. The authors does really good at making the suspense big and whats going to happen next is unknown. The author doesn't really do well in describing where Jack and his friends are because it is kind of vague.

Finally, my final rating of this book would be a 4 star because in the book the suspense is really good and all of the characters are a important part of all of the story. This wouldn't be a 5 star because the layout of where they were at was a little vague and how the vampires were banished wasn't explained as much but everything else is good so I would rate it 4 stars. This book is a good book for people who are into vampires, mysteries, and suspense this book was worked on pretty well and it has the great amount of attention it deserves. Fabulous second installment of the Vampire Plagues trilogy (or series).

Jack seems to have taken the forefront in the trio of friends to be the main character. I thought it was balanced between Ben and Jack in book one. He is thoughtful, heroic, questioning, and feeling growing pains in the changes to his life.

London is now clear of the vampire plague. The professor feels they will find answers with a friend in Paris. Off the four go. Sadly, Paris is now infected (not a spoiler; you get that from the title). Madness and mayhem ensue. There are twists and turns, alleys and sewers and hidden rooms, spies and lies and oh mys! Not to mention a great surprise at the end!

I devoured this second book and called the library about book 3 when i hit page 70 (seems I beat them). It is as well crafted as the first. Our trio learns more about their adversary and is joined by a fourth for a time. Dominique earns her title of friend.

A goodread!

A good follow up to the series. The underground and city of Paris also seems lifelike and a quick dip into a foreign world. Ben, Emily, and Jack all are trying to fight against Camazotz again, the evil Mayan god of the underworld, and finally put him out of commission. This book doesn't keep up so much with the first in terms of spookiness, but overall is a good as the first.

I chose this book because I am a fan of Cirque De Freak books and I asked the librarian and she said this is someway similar to Cirque De Freak. The book is about a boy named Jack who believes that all the Vampires have been abolished from earth. He was so wrong. My favorite quote from the book is when Camazotz’s the vampire lord talked to Jack on page 162. “Do you hear me, boy? You and your friends? You think you have outwitted me. But the vicomte could not stand against me and I will destroy you, too. Do you hear me? I WILL DESTROY YOU!” I like this quote because it sort of gave me a shiver and made me keep reading for another 30 minutes. I liked that the author used many descriptive words to grab the reader’s attention and it defiantly made me think that I was one of Jacks group members. This book was in third person point of view. I would recommend this book to people who have a hard time reading because this book is extremely easy although it has some grammar and punctuation errors which may make it a bit harder to read.

I personally enjoyed this book, even though it was a tad under my reading skill level. I like how the author can keep you guessing. Just when you think you have figured something out or you are sure you know what is going to happen next, BAM! Surprise, now you have no idea what’s going on or what’s going to happen next. Since this is the second book in the series it reminds me allot of the first book. I like how I got to see the characters grow (literally). I got to see them mature too, I thought that was cool to see because at first one of the characters was a petty thief Now he is a respectable citizen.

Book 2 in a series that didn't get enough attention in the middle school crowd as I thought it might. Well written tales of vampires and pirates and travel from London to Paris and on to Mexico in a effort to stop a malicious group of vampires who rule the high seas. Great for fans of Vampirates series.

I didn't enjoy the 2nd installment of the trilogy as much as I did the first one. This book seemed to drag most of the way through with very little in the way of action. I do enjoy how the children manage to outwit the vampires in spite of the dragging plot. I do look forward to reaading the last installment to see how this story ends.

More interactions with Camazotz, more death and a somewhat predictable ending. But bearing in mind these are kids books that I'm reading to put on my classroom shelves I believe it would continue to keep the interest of my students; pulling them into the third book. Good, easy read.

Well, if it keeps up with the way it's been going, I feel terribly sorry for whoever becomes the kids' next mentor. Yes, the books are predictable, but they are also a fun and easy read. I'll continue with the series.

I had actually picked this book up first, not realizing that it was the second in a series. I read it, and THEN the first one. Either way, Rook has a way with writing. I wasn't completely lost, and he gave enough so that I could still enjoy it without having read the first book.

My kids made me read this book when I lost our summer reading challenge last summer. They want me to read this series so that I know that "real" vampires do not sparkle in the sunshine and kiss girls. It is written for children and reminds me a little bit of Scooby-Doo.
