This is an interesting tale, with bits of Hawaiian history, folklore and the local flora and fauna thrown in for good measure. It has an introduction that provides a caveat for the story and several pages of additional information about the places and creatures mentioned. It's a bit long for younger audiences, but perfect for young school age children. Vivid and detailed illustrations enhance the story.
This one isn't as good as The Story of Chinaman's Hat but it is still a fun story. You learn to like it more if you have actually seen these places and you know how important legends and stories are to the natives. It is a good bedtime story. Again, I bought this one just for me- to put in my Hawaii Memories Collection.
