4 sterren - Nederlandse hardcover - 🌹🌹🌹
Bregje heeft geen gemakkelijk leven bij haar moeder die altijd schreeuwt. Zelden doet ze iets goed. Maar op een dag vind ze een brief op de deurmat. Wie zou haar geschreven hebben. 🥀🥀🥀
Een fantasierijk boek met mooie platen. Je kunt voorlezen wat er op de brieven staat of er zelf brieven bij verzinnen. Ik heb ervan genoten.🌺🌺🌺

This book deserve a higher ratings then the 3,08 it have on Goodreads right now. First, it is marvelously illustrated. And the story is just beautiful. It's about a girl who received a letter and for the next page she thinks/dream of what the letter could be and dreaming about a different life, or a life changing invitation. One page, one dream. This make you think and could present an opportunity to talk with your kids about what is a good successful life and happiness. It also presented an idea of dreaming, thinking and creativity. A big awesome surprise discovery for me!! Loved it!!

Een prentenboek die ik uit de minibieb heb genomen voor de cover. Het zag er zo leuk uit en toen las ik de blurb en vond ik het nog leuker. Helaas door het einde reken ik wel wat puntjes minder. Ik had graag een beter einde willen zien. .
Maar de rest van het boek vond ik prachtig. Brieven die Bregje zelf bedenkt. Van een sultan die haar graag wilt hebben en zelfs zijn harem weg wilt doen tot een oud buurmeisje die een nieuw lid van haar team moet hebben voor een spannende junglemissie tot een producer die Bregje graag voor een nieuwe film wilt hebben. Ik vond de brieven heerlijk en wat heeft Bregje een fantasie!
De illustraties waren echt fabeltastisch, ik vind de stijl echt tof en het bracht de brieven helemaal tot leven.

Bregje Boentjes staat op het punt om van huis te vertrekken als ze op de deurmat een brief vindt. Geen brief aan haar moeder, maar aan haar; Bregje B. Boentjes staat er op geschreven. Maar op de achterkant van de enveloppe staat geen afzender. Van wie zou de brief zijn?
In de verte hoort Bregje haar moeder nog roepen. " Denk aan je jas, neem de boodschappentas mee, niet met vreemde mannen praten..." Blablabla. Bregje hoort het niet meer. Haar fantasie neemt haar mee. Ze weet van wie de brief zou kunnen zijn!
Samen met Bregje gaat de lezer mee naar vreemde landen en gekke situaties. Iedereen kan haar een brief hebben gestuurd. Is ze ontdekt door het circus of mag ze meespelen in een film? Is het haar oude buurmeisje die vraagt haar teddybeer te brengen? Op elke bladzijde kan de lezer van alles zien in de prachtige, zachte en lieve prenten. En constant vraag je je af; van wie zou de brief nou zijn?
Laat je fantasie de vrije loop en je komt er vanzelf achter...

While I liked the idea of the letters that Daisy imagined, it was a little hard for me to get over her mother barking orders from upstairs as if Daisy were Cinderella. It's hard for me to read a picture book to children that asks them to just accept a parent being so much of a crank that the child runs away without any background information. Maybe I'm taking it a bit too seriously, but I would have liked it more if the letter had sparked Daisy's adventurous spirit without all the negativity.

Nice book to show kids the power of content in a letter, thus the power in WRITING... Handed each of my students a sealed envelope and created curiosity about who it may be from then shared this book with them. After, we wrote fanciful letters ourselves. Fun! Fun!

Mooie illustraties maar vind niet alle teksten even geschikt voor kinderen. Negatief naar ouders en anderen te volwassen romantisch.
"Sinds mijn neef Hakim, uw melkboer, me over u verteld heeft, brandt mijn hart van verlangen"
wat moet een kind met zo'n zin? Brandt van verlangen??
"En dat is de schuld van dat rottige loeder! Eh -pardon ik bedoel dus... je moeder"
Wat moet een kind met brandt van verlangen en hoe netjes is het om over iemand zijn moeder te zeggen "dat rottig loeder"? Buiten dat een sultan verlaat zijn harem voor haar. Een harem. Waarom zou dat iets moeten zijn waar een klein kind over droomt.

I am absolutely in love with everything that Chuck Groenink illustrates, so I ordered this because it was maybe the only picture book he’s been a part of that I haven’t read.
First of all, this really isn’t a book for kids. This book needs to get in the hands of, say, a 20-year-old. A young woman who has had more of a rough life, and has a demanding mother who expects her to be at her beck and call and not follow her own dreams.
That is, until this picture book shows up in our young woman’s hands, and changes everything for her.
It’s beautiful. The story might need the right reader, but the illustrations are definitely for everyone.

I love the illustrations and imagination of each letter. I love that it can inspire kids to use their own imaginations. It was sad though, because the mother was so mean. Hopefully it can be an inspiration for kids in situations they dream of getting away from, to inspire them to keep dreaming and know that someday they will get away.

2,5 ster. Het boek ziet er erg mooi uit, en de hoofdpersoon heeft veel fantasie, maar met iets meer verhaal had ik het boek denk ik leuker gevonden.

This is a melancholy tale of a young girl (to me, she appears much too young to be leaving home for good) who is verbally abused by her mother. When she discovers a letter at her front door, she imagines who it might be from and what it might say.
The different possibilities are charming and even somewhat humorous. Since we never discover what is really written in the letter, I asked our girls which one they preferred and which one they thought it was really from (if any). Our youngest liked the first letter best, but overwhelmingly they thought it really was the last letter, perhaps because it was the least fantastical.
The illustrations were very nice and complemented each letter appropriately. There was a dark edge to the story, though, and it doesn't surprise me that the book was not originally written in English. Overall, it was a compelling, if somewhat disturbing story and we really enjoyed reading it together.
