As a driver for one of the hottest food delivery services in San Antonio, Emma is constantly getting hit on. Usually, she ignores the advances of her customers. But when she unknowingly shares an elevator with a wealthy and generous detective, she can't ignore his interest. Especially after the ridiculous tip he gives her.
Hunter never planned to move back to San Antonio. But after his parents' tragic deaths, he feels an obligation to stay in town to settle their substantial estate. The offer to head up a special task force for the SAPD wasn't expected, but it fills a need in him to help others so he gladly takes the job. When an undercover FBI agent, Cruz Livingston, brings a possible lead to his team for followup, Hunter dives right into his work. He expects to help dozens of women who have gone missing in San Antonio over recent months.
He just never expects that the one woman he's falling for might become one of them.
Down on her luck food delivery driver Emma thinks she'll get a $0 tip when her new client overhears her venting about her dire financial situation, but instead, he gives her $5000. Police investigator Hunter inherited a lot of money from abusive parents he hates, so he has no problem giving money to a damsel in distress. They meet up again at a club and end up spending the night together, which leads to a more-or-less casual relationship between the two, until Emma (and her BFF Jenna) end up in the middle of his human trafficking investigation, which makes Hunter and Emma realize how much they mean to each other.
This book is a mixed bag for me. The writing is good and the dialogue (especially Emma's thoughts and words) are snappy and clever. The relationship between BFFs Emma, Jenna, and Jenna's son Ollie is great, though I wish it had been expanded upon. Hunter initially comes across as arrogant and controlling. He keeps giving Emma money even when she doesn't want it. The only thing that keeps it from being unbearable is a sentence or two in the beginning about how he inherited money from his rich but abusive parents. If that had been explained in more detail, or especially if Hunter had explained that to Emma, the book would have been much better.
Like in a number of the Stoker Kindle Worlds books, balancing the romance with the action is challenging, and this one fails on that level, with the human trafficking plot on the back burner for most of the book, only to be resolved super quickly. Still, Aspen Drake is a good writer, and I hope the plots and characterizations will be more balanced in her future books, because she does have the potential to be a fabulous 5* writer.

Hunter is a jerk. He talks and treats her like a bootie call for 75% of the book. Even in his point of view she is a bootie call at one point says that no women is worth having a relationship with directly to her. Then she is in danger and all the sudden he is in love with her. She gets a little hurt and doesn't drop everything to be with him. She has some self respect but since she is okay with the bootie call thing. With his attitude towards her she should have dropped him and definitely not fell in love with him. He didnt even like to complement her because it would give her the wrong idea about the relationship. Plot would have been okay if she knew anything was happening. But since she was just a bootie call she was privy to that information. Not sure how her brother adds to the story. It wasnt a romance, it was more like a daydream of a women in a relationship not going anywhere written as a book. Not worth the read and definitely not worthy of being part of Susan Stoker's Worlds.
Eh...it was alright. There’s no build up and there’s no angst. Stuff just happens. Uh oh, there’s a trouble! But don’t worry, turn the page and it’s solved! Seriously, this is an easy, easy read, which if you’re looking for great, you’ve found it! But I’m looking for a bit more depth, so 2 stars is the most I can give this one.
Side note: just remembered, there’s a side story with the heroine’s brother that doesn’t get resolved in this. It might be the set up for another book, it might not...I just know in this book, we’re left hanging.
I really disliked the main male character. He is a completely self absorbed mule’s behind. I didn’t feel any connection between him and the female main character. He seems to just see women as objects to used. The thing with her brother is left unresolved.
**Wish we would've been told whether he slept with a woman from the club his friend dragged him to a day or so before the met the heroine. I'm thinking he didn't based upon the fact he didn't even want to be there, and I hope I'm right on that, but clarification would've been nice.**
DNF. I started to read this and got a real sense of deja vu... after a quick look I found this is virtually the same book as 'Until Emma'... just the male character change of job, not being linked to a strip/pleasure club as far as I can see. I hated 'Until Emma' ( I read the whole thing ) so I guess that this will pretty much follow the same process and it is a cut & paste with a few modifications. I cannot see anywhere that it mentions that there are two stories with the same characters/plots but with slight tweaks. Lazy & frustrating.
Not the best read - a little contrived storyline. Seemed like just a bunch of scenes strung together to try and make a story.
Also, I realize this is fiction, but if you are going to use a REAL city - keep it real. San Antonio is not on the coast, and doesn't have docks. Other than trying to have one of Susan Stoker's characters, there is no reason to use San Antonio.
A modern day Cinderella, a struggling independent woman dragged into a nightmare and rescued by a Prince - what's not to love!
Emma been showed by an ex charmer and robbed and left holding the bag it will take her forever to city out from this mistake...ugh men! Hunter is in charged of a special task force and willing to work with the alphabet soup to bring down criminals that exploit woman and children. A chance meeting sparks a chain reaction. This brings Emma into Hunters circle and she is not an easy wall to climb. The case test his desire for Emma when the sting turns into a net fast around Jenna best friend of emma. Fast paced action with human trafficking ring to shut down. Violence 2, sex2 steamy

2.75 Stars Emma hits the boyfriend lottery when her night at a bar for a bachelorette party ends with a hook-up with a sexy, millionaire cop. Something about Emma has Hunter wanting a repeat of their very steamy one night stand with her. Emma is a hard working food delivery person that really isn’t impressed with his money, but sure is impressed with his bedroom skills. Most of the book centers around their sex life. There is a police investigation Hunter is working on with his team that happens to cross paths with Emma and her friend. Though, the author failed to capitalize on the drama or add much intrigue to the story.
This for me was so over the top. Emma in on the elevator with Hunter and he over hears her conversation and out of the blue gives her a $5000 tip. She thinks its a mistake so she tries to give it back and he ends up asking her out. He makes sure he is up front that he wants nothing but the good time they have been having. Fast forward a minute, and he has to rescue her and guess what??? He loves her, okay when did that happen? You have been hooking up for a week if that. Also what's going on with Emma's brother? Why make that a big deal in the book and then nothing??? For me there was no connection for these characters and didn't have me rooting for them to have a HEA.
Was a very quick read, had a good storyline to it but was a bit rushed at the end. Had all the vibes of a slow burn all throughout, but then at the end they're suddenly confessing their love to each other after only really ever seeing each other 4 times. The main aspect of the story could have been drawn out a little bit longer, but it was still exciting. You would also think that both Emma and Jenna would be a little more shaken up about the whole thing than they were... Some aspects were good, but others weren't very realistic and that irritated me.
This book was a great read. I was looking for something new in Kindle Unlimited and found this great find. It's fast paced, suspenseful and has some very steamy scenes. It is about Emma, a feisty delivery girl, who accidentally stumbles into a human trafficking case that gorgeous cop, Hunter, is working. He will do anything to save her, but will it be enough? You absolutely have to read this to find out!
After reading Rescued by River, I was enthralled by this author. The book was exciting and intense. Then, I downloaded this book by this author. This book is different in that it is more sensual than story-line and while I enjoyed Hunter and Emma with their trials and hardships, I missed the great story of River. Thanks for bringing out the terrible crime of human trafficking that plagues our country and the toll it takes on those women and the lawmen who find them.
Loved this story for Hunter and Emma. Two people from different "worlds". Emma delivers food through an app service. Hunter is a very rich, humble guy, who happens to be a police officer. The plot is amazing. The characters beautifully written. Definitely recommend.
This is the first book I've read from Aspen Drake and I'm hooked. In this series Finding Shelter Emma is a woman who delivers meals for one of the hots new take out services in San Antonio and is always a little low on cash. So she's always working to get ahead of her bills. She meets Hunter the head of a special task force when she's delivering lunch. Sparks fly.
Hunter is an add plain and simple. Emma has a good head on her shoulders and took no stuff from Hunter. I felt bad that she got the shaft but made up for it. Overall this was pretty cool story.
I really enjoyed this book. Didn't even go to the end before reading it all. Kept me engrossed all the way through. Hope next one in series is just as good. Recommend this book to any romantic.
First time reading this author and the introduction to a new series Police and Fire which is part of Operation Alpha group. This story contains all the elements necessary to make an entertaining new series.
A future where I can have everything I want and everything I need…very good suspenseful romance with a best friend and little boy, Ollie. A hot detective that Emma can’t resist.
Emma is working her butt off to get by, but after her credit card declined after trying to buy tampons and complaining over the phone is when she meets Hunter. So begins the wild ride of their courtship. An entertaining read.
I expected better. Good writing, pretty bad execution and developing the story, seeing a realistic timeline with a believable plot. Found myself swiping through to the end because the plot lost me towards the peak of the action.
Emma works for a delivery service. Hunter has moved back and works as a detective. One of the cases involves trafficking. Jenna wants to find a better job so Emma goes with her Hunter realizes she is missing. He needs her back.
THIS IS LITERALLY THE PREMISE for her other book UNTIL EMMA.
JFC…how do authors get away with this shit??
EDIT…It is the same book. Some parts are taken word for word and some other random plot is shoved in…SO FUCKING LAZY and it gets the same rating as the other book.
Very nicely written. Loved the storyline and characters. I did think there was a bit more sexual content that could have been left out. All in all a most enjoyable story.

Emma now finds herself trying to deliver more orders when by mistake receives a $5000. tip during her lunch shift. What the FLUFF! 🐰 This was fine. It had more than just an incredible romance and sex. It ended too quickly and the action part was too fast paced for real life. Quotes 🐰 Emma's relationship with her brother, classic haha.
