Textbook for school.

Aging is a topic many try to avoid because it is not the most pleasant one. but yet we should all educate ourselves on it. Not only are we likely to reach old age ourselves but we also usually have someone in our lives who falls in the category or will soon reach it. People educating themselves on it gives the society a better understanding of seniors and by that creates a better environment for them and makes it easier for us to deal with.

This book is an introduction to gerontology. it goes through different topic including the basics, the changes a person goes through (physical and psychological), the changes through history, different institutions and society. And this is done from Canadian perspective.

The book was published in the 90's, so it is a bit outdated. There is definitely many changes that happened since then. But it is still interesting and gives us a perspective on the general ideas. as well it could be used to learn from historical perspective of the 80's and early 90's. It was actually interesting to read the predictions they made in the book such as what a role computers may play in the future in the social life of seniors and things like shopping, and this was before mainstream internet.
