“Start on the whistle and end on the whistle, people —and try to survive in between.”

This is a book about Alexander who found out he was a vampire and was sent to Bathory Academy after being raised in a human world. There he met Scarlett Bathory and instantly feeling connected in a way both of them never felt before. He then realized being a vampire is not easy especially when you know nothin

I think 3-3.5 stars for me. The premise and the uniqueness of the backstory really made the book for me. I am loving how really rich the world building is here, pulling together some of the oldies with a whole lot of newbie made for a really great read. The very clever and subtle name drops made me feel like I belonged. I had no trouble sinking right into the world and scenes and honestly there was enough going on that I remained invested from cover to cover; however all that being said it reall ...more

This book was received as an ARC from BooksGoSocial in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book was intense. This was a storyline that was completely unexpected. I wanted to read this book because I thought it would have a similar plot to vampire academy by Richelle Mead. It is similar where Alexander has to attend Bathory Academy after he figures out he is a vampire but it had a dark twist to the book as well when he murders a

This book drew me in and held me delightfully-captive from beginning to end. The characters were realistic, likable and identifiable. And, every settings was described in such a way as to make me feel like I was an actual bystander in that scene. Once I started reading this story, I knew this was a book I wasn’t going to be able to put down! This was paranormal at its vampiest!

This book has so much potential. This has Vampire Academy vibes if you read the synopsis. The writing really fell short for me. The story in and of itself isn’t bad. Just the writing needs a lot of work. I think once that gets straightened out this could be a fantastic series.

This is only the second book of the Katie’s that I've read. The first was The Crow Man.
I've got to say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Because of my love are vampires and the supernatural I was more than a little excited to see this released! I read it in about 6 hours too.
Bathory Academy is the school/college supernaturals, Bathory is no ordinary college, it has been home to some of the most notorious vampire families in the world. Now it has become the home of Alexander Augustine.

Thank you NetGalley for the e-ARC of Vampire Hearts: Book One of Bathory Academy

Alexander is an 18-year-old Monarchy who has arrived at Bathory Academy because for the first 18 years of his life he has been living with humans, but his vampire tendencies have recently started to get out of control. We are then introduced to the Bathory sisters, Scarlett and Charlotte, who are also Monarchies. You can already see how powerful they are at this academy (hint hint their great, great, great grandmo

Vampire Hearts was an out of comfort zone read for me, whilst I love a great fantasy, paranormal just doesn’t hold the sway. However, I was completely drawn in by the blurb of this book and I am so happy I took the plunge. Vampire Hearts is an outstanding read!

From the moment you walk through the doors into the sumptuous surroundings of the Bathory Academy, you are immersed into the decadent world. I have to say that as it’s a genre that I don’t often read, I found myself very much identifying w

I'm still not certain how I feel about this story. I've never read any of the stories this was compared to, so I went into this with fresh eyes. It seemed a bit.... harem like to me? Or in some cases reverse harem? You have your "monarchy" aka your vampires (who are both male and female), and they each have "swans" aka people (male or female in some cases both) in which they drink from. Apparently its a very sexual experience. Don't get me wrong, there is some action and some mystery also contai ...more

Vampire Hearts by Katie M John is definitely a must read. If you enjoy vampire novels then this is the book for you.

Description: Alexander Augustine's secret has been revealed. He is a newly emerged vampire and almost killed a human girl. Now there's no choice but to run, and there's only one place to go. Bathory Academy, home to the next generation of some of the world's most notorious vampire families, is a college like no other. As Alexander begins to slowly accept his supernatural life, he i

A fun little freebie from Netgalley!

Given the fact that this is part of a series and has been published, I was surprised at the amount of typos and grammar mistakes. It didn’t detract from the enjoyment of the book, but I definitely noticed them and it pulled me out of the story a bit. I think it needs to be gone over again by a diligent editor!!

This book is definitely in the realm of YA, but content is targeted for an older YA demographic. There is drinking, sex (although nothing explicit), so

I tried out this book not sure what to think but I don't think it's for me. I struggle to get through any academy type books lately I just don't find them as attention grabbing as they first were. I also didn't connect with the MC Alexander. While this one just wasn't for me I always think if the blurb sparks an in you but you arnt sure give the first chapter or two a shot.

I received this book from Netgalley for my honest review

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I am not sure how I feel about Alexander. We don't really get a lot of his background story. All we really know is that he is a vampire that was raised in the human world and he almost killed a girl. His grandfather takes him to the academy so he can embraces his life and his nature. He is trying to settle into his new supernatural life. I enjoy the book and would read more by this author.

When I can get my hands on a book that has some history or folk lore weaved thru it makes it so much better for me to read and really get into the story. I dont really read many books with young adults in them but I am glad that the word vampire and Bathory grabbed me first. I would love to read more in this series,.

Capitivating

It has been years since I enjoyed a vampire story and Katie M. John has rekindled my love.
I couldn't stop reading once I'd started and I can't wait to start book two.
The balance of darkness, humour and angst is perfect and the intricate characters against the stunning Scottish setting is amazing.

I received an ARC from NetGalley of this book and i am so disappointed that I took so long to read it! I literally just finished it! All i can is WHERE IS BOOK TWO and when is BOOK THREE? I want to go to this school. I love the entire book. I love the characters. I love the order of vampire royalty and old blood (pun intended). I will be buying these books and adding them to my sacred collection

I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters feel well thought out.
The story kept me turning page after page and the characters pulled me into their world with them. It was nice to learn about the vampire world along with the main character

This book is well written with great characters. There is a little bit of action and I feel the next book will have more. This book is more of Alexander and his struggle with accepting who he is and the blossoming relationship between him and Scarlett. My favorite character is Alexander. He’s sweet and caring. I feel he will really grow into a great protector in the next book and am looking forward to reading this book. I also want to read the book that is about Astrid to find out more about her ...more

Let me start out that I hate cliff hangers!!!! If I knew this was a first in series I would not have chosen for that reason. I enjoyed the story and the depth some of the characters had but not all we're fully developed. Some seemed to hide great chunks of themselves in this book. Just when I was really getting into it the book ended. Now I have to wait for the next one.

This was a tough one for me. I hate giving 1 star rating but there's just no way around it for Vampire Hearts. There were enough grammer issues and typos to pull me away from the story itself. The premise was great and the book sounded interesting from the blurb but it was just poorly executed. And lastly, I just couldn't bring myself to care about these characters. After trying to get through this book, I DNF at 46%

Alexander went through the door of Bathory Academy. His grandfather had brought him here. He really had nowhere else to go after what happened with the young girl. He was determined to take ownership of his life. To embrace and accept who he really was even after being brought up in the human world he is a vampire. Then he heard someone beautifully playing the piano and singing like a siren. Even though he knew he should take a seat to await his appointment with the headmistress, he moved until ...more
