It was supposed to be a simple assignment—look into a caravan destined for the White River. But when Marcus, the leader of the Kral’s security forces, dug deeper, he knew something was amiss. Not only was it the teamsters’ third trip east of the Wall, a no-man’s land haunted by the dead, but their cargo was one of the least profitable—soap.

All was not as it seemed, so Ma

This books is full of action and mystery, from the first action packed pages to the end.
Easy to read and with rich details. Sometimes when introducing a new world authors get caught up in explaining minutia that drags the story -not in this case, the story flows well with the details incorporated.

I especially love that the author takes the time to have things make sense which adds texture and realism to the world. For example the author explains how to stitch a wound correctly, when those deta
Aug 17, 2018 rated it it was amazing I just finished reading Son of Caynand I honestly don't know where to start with this review. Don't get me wrong, it was a really good book. I enjoyed it. I'm just not sure where to begin because there was a lot in here. I mean, I guess I expected that. It's the first book in a fantasy series and those are frequently pretty busy. When an author (or in this case team of authors) has to not only introduce their characters but also their world, there tends to be a lot of information nece ...more

Jasper is hired as the caravan’s cook by the caravan leader, Dragahn. Dragahn drives t

There's a lot to like about 'Son of Cayn'. It has an intriguing plot involving the placement of several government agents within or near a group of teamsters suspected of smuggling... something. No one seems to know exactly what. The action is interesting and well choreographed. The authors have taken some effort to design fighting styles with unique, recognizable components. The characters are varied, with jobs integral to their investigation. Jasper the "cook" isn't your usual mage. Xandar and ...more

Not sure what to make of this book. It's set in a fantasy world, where four companions are investigating what seems to be a smuggling operation. Two of them, a mage pretending to be a cook, and a half-orc hired as a bodyguard, are on the inside, and a human ranger and a dwarven cleric are following them. The smugglers are actually being used by a group of demon worshippers, to infect the population of an area humans live in so orcs and other humanoid creatures can take over.

Good Read - Cliffhanger

Nice read, but it ends with a cliff hanger.

Usual Tolkien type world building, not much new. Seems to have good political nation building.
