The Warehouse. People go in, but they don't come out.

On the planet of Raster, standing in the vast locust fields is The Warehouse.

Aart is a bounty hunter looking for a missing girl in a strange land. Perhaps it's because he's a stranger he asks the one question you're not allowed to ask in the locust fields: Why?

Soon he's a target for the authorities' rage, and it's not just one missing girl, but hundreds. Time is not on his side.

Saffron Bryant is an Australian author with a passion for fantasy and science fiction. She began writing at a very early age and hasn’t stopped since.

She has a degree in Biomedical Science (with honours) and recently completed a PhD in chemistry at the University of Sydney.

Unfortunately her cupboard didn’t open onto Narnia, she didn’t get a letter from Hogwarts, and a strange man in a blue box hasn’t shown up… (here’s hoping for an old Wizard on my 50th!!)

So she spends her time writing stories and releasing them to the world.

~Happy Reading!~

Saffron is best known for her science-fiction action adventure The Nova Chronicles , which she describes as "Tomb Raider in Space".

Poor people are selling their emotions for money and other things they need. They tend to sell the good ones. He is the only one who wants to save them but why will no-one else help. Can he help them? See if he can

very light, breezy read, bit of a strange premise that the book revolves around but the author mostly makes it work.

I read this after reading Seven Eves which was a punishing slog - this book by contrast was very enjoyable and hit its plot beats succinctly which I appreciated.

This story deserves a five-star rating but because it was not the true Sci-Fi style I expected I've given it four stars. I'm a great fan of Nova's, and in a prior review, I believe I said I was in love with her. I was so disappointed she didn't make an appearance that this probably spoiled my objectivity.
I enjoy reading about the adventures of Nova's friends in their "back-stories", and you can see the developing integrity and ethics that later define Aart, I was just hoping he'd be "saved" by Nova and link-up with the Jagged-Maw. That's probably way too much to contain in one book to do justice to all the characters, with their backgrounds properly defined.
I was thrilled to learn this is all part of Saffron Bryant's master plan and that Last Escape is the first of what will be a trilogy where all my expectations will be met. I can't wait and I'll probably go back and update this rating after learning "the-rest-of-the-story" as Paul Harvey would say. I still feel bad about giving this a less than five-star rating and readily admit it was my own unrealistically high expectations that weren't met.

Escape

I gave this a five because the characters were easy to like and champion for their cause. Suspense, intrigue, emotional, and belief in the characters. Can't wait to have the next book in the series arrive.
