Christine isn't my favourite Booktuber, but she basically single handedly started Booktube and that's pretty fucking awesome. And she's been working on this for years - even though we all KNOW because of her following she could of got it published ages ago. I totally respect the work & dedication that has obviously gone into this.
Plus I think the title is so catchy and fun
ARC received via #arcsfortrade on Twitter!
“If you could go back and do London all over again, knowing everything you know now, would you do it?”
Friends, I wanted to love this so badly. So damn badly. Christine is not only the actual Queen of BookTube, she was one of the first channels I ever watched. She just seems so kind, and genuine, and I always feel like she radiates positive energy, and she was such a massive part of why I wanted to read Shadowhunters in the first place. But this revie ...more
pretty sure i'm late to the cover art reveal BUT I MUST SHARE MY FEELS DESPITE NOT KNOWING A THING ABOUT THE INSIDE CONTENTS. i live for overanalyzing art. ps. this is all speculation from a literature nerd.
- see how the division between the white and blue is fluid and not a blunt line in the middle? it appears to be a swaying transition into life as an adult in a new country, suggesting tentative steps to try new things in london. the drastic change in colour could be s ...more
So, here we are again. A booktuber writes a book and I receive an ARC of it.
And, yeah, it was bad :)
Not a total trainwreck like Zenith, but still... Bad.
I have seen A LOT of people saying that they will love this book regardless if it's good or not because they love Christine and that's fine, do what you want. But it also means that I will be as brutally honest as I could be to even it out :))))))
I believe that you should always judge a book based on the book and not the author but since this bo ...more
Oh WOW look at this cover! Not what I expected, but I really love the colors (the green is GORGEOUS). Illustrated covers are awesome!

but OKAY ALSO WHAT IS THIS--LONDON YOU SAY i am a stereotypical American of course i like British things (shh let's not talk about the revolution). and second chances!!! and British things!!! and feeling like a boring person (because who DOESN'T feel like their life is repetitive?)!!!

This book was so gosh darn cute! I was grinning like a complete idiot the entire time I was reading! UGH!!
Anyway, fangirling aside, let's get to this review! There were things I absolutely loved with all my heart, and things I didn't quite love all that much.
This book is a combination of Fangirl (a book I hated), Anna and the French Kiss (a book I really liked), About Time (a movie that is super cute!), and Christine Riccio's lif ...more
Saw some Discourse TM on twitter and wanted to throw in my 2 cents that no one will probably read but I just wanted to throw out this perspective anyway. Putting it under a spoiler cut so you don't have to see it if you don't want to. :P
I've seen a lot of "the publisher wouldn't have picked her up if she didn't write a good (aka quality) book!!"
And y'all. Y'all. Publishing doesn't care about quality. They care about MONEY. If you don't believe this, you have not been in the ...more
And you best believe I'm side-eyeing all of you who are saying she only got published "because of her following".
I like a boy. He has a girlfriend who isn't me, and it's the worst.
When Christine revealed via BookTube that she was working on a novel, I was very excited. She's a very funny and witty person, so her work must be the same, right? There's usually a lot of skepticism when online celebs publish books, but Christine's debut won't make you feel that way because it's undeniably and irrevocably her that you can't ...more
Still waiting... 😂
Soooo, everyone who was at yallfest is talking about the ARCs
EEEEEEKKKK!!! I JUST SAW WHAT THE ARCS LOOKED LIKE !!! MY HEART IS BREAKING BECAUSE I CAN'T GO TO YALLFEST TO GET THEM 😢😢😥
Well, the publishers emailed me and gave me a form to fill out! I'm one step closer to an ARC (hopefully)! 😊😊
OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH!!!! THERE'S A FREAKING COVERR!!!!! IT'S THE MOST GORGEO ...more
I was approved for an arc this morning. You best believe I spent the entire day reading it.
THIS STORY WAS INCREDIBLE, MARVELOUS, FANTASTICAL, BEAUTIFUL, it also hurt a lil but in a good way?
(view spoiler)[ THE TITLE IS A DOUBLE REFERENCE AND GUYS IM S H O O K (hide spoiler)]
ok so im strangely good at being able to work out how a story will end (view spoiler)[ but OUR GIRL CHRISTINE WAS LIKE 'LOL YOU THOUGHT' i mean SHE DID TIME TRAVEL AND IT SHOOK ME sis really didn't have to sna ...more
This synopsis does appeal to me, as I'm in college myself and I'm always wondering if I'm being social enough haha so I'll probably give this book a chance and see what Christine has to say.
Part 2- 5 stars
Final rating- 4.5 stars
Okay so I tried to completely separate Christine from my mind while reading this but the fact is, you can't. Christine is all over this book (I mean of course she is) but with Shane's likes and dislikes, if you are a viewer of her's, you're gonna pick up on all these things. Putting that aside, if you aren't a viewer, you can still thoroughly enjoy this book. I feel like I can't say much without spoiling the book but if you are a fan of Rainbo ...more
So uh. I just.. didn't enjoy this. And I really, really wanted to. I know there's gonna be so many people who are waiting for their chance to drag this but that's not what I want to do. I genuinely like Christine a lot and I loved following her writing journey. But this book is just bad.
I don't even know where to begin. Maybe it's the self-insert that feels really uncomfortable because there's so many facts in here that ...more
Overall, I think Again, But Better has a lot of good things going for it: the writing is engaging, earnest, and compulsively readable; it spans multiple years of the main character's life; and it's exactly the kind of college YA so many readers have been looking to read. The thing that shines most about this debut is the tremendous amount of heart. The entire story feels genuine and earnest in a way I've rarely read befor ...more
