Eternity Between Us is an engrossing story of torn loyalties and espionage set during the beginning of the Civil War. What makes it even more fascinating is that many of the events in the story are based on historical accounts. Why make stuff up when history provides all the drama you could ask for?

This story also has one of my all-time favourite dilemmas: Characters who fall in love despite being on opposite sides of the political divide. It doesn’t just create delicious romantic tension; it al

If you're a fan of Civil War era fiction, like me, this story's intriguing intersection of medicine and espionage is sure to please. As an added bonus, readers who aren't necessarily fond of the battles themselves can dive in with eyes wide open. It's refreshing to read a Civil War book set neither on a battlefield nor a sprawling plantation.

Evelyn's failures make her a more authentic and relatable character. Samuel has all kinds of distractions (seen and unse

Such a pleasure to read a historical novel that is so well written, interesting in its plot, and with characters whose transformations are believable. All this, plus “Eternity Between Us” contains a sweet love story and two orphans in need of a family. Romantic and clean, this latest release from Stephenia McGee is a gem worth your time.

Eternity Between Us by Stephenia McGee is a top notch historical book set during the Civil War.

This book focuses on a Southern girl, born and bred, and a Northern man at the end of his medical studies. Can the gulf between them be crossed?
Evelyn Mapleton is beholden to her Aunt and cousin while her father is away reporting on the war. They have no real fondness for her, she is more of an obligation to them. She is outspoken about her support of the South and intends to help in some way.

What an endearing story! This is my first book by Stephenia, and will certainly not be the last!

"How could a person set a foot on each side of such a divide? Deep and wide as eternity, there would be no spanning it"
Filled with mystery, intrigue, and espionage, the characters are sure to steal your heart with their courage as well as their tenderness - towards the ones under their care, their country, and the enemy. And, experiencing such kindness, Evelyn Mapleton might be surprised by the possib

Eternity Between Us is a beautiful written historical by Stephenia H McGee. I love reading Civil War era novels and this one does not disappoint. I love Evelyn from the start. I enjoyed her strength, bravery, and courage. I, also, enjoyed getting to know Samuel. I thought the two captured the turmoil and struggles of how it was for their time in history.
I am giving Eternity Between Us a well deserved five plus stars.
Highly recommended.

This book grabbed me from the first page. I could literally feel the rumble of wagons and the hear the drumbeat as the Union army advanced on Martinsburg, Virginia. And then the heroine, Evelyn  Mapleton, shot a drunken Union soldier when she feared he would attack her cousin.  Evelyn is no shrinking violet and her impulsiveness gets her into trouble sometimes.

From there, the scene switches to Samuel Flynn as he tends to wounded soldiers and two orphans who are about to be separated. My heart hu

Eternity Between Us by Stephenia H McGee is a fabulous Christian novel set in 1861 during the American Civil War. The action is a mixture of fact and fiction and keeps the reader entertained. I read the book in just one sitting as I could not put it down.
War is fought under many guises - the abolition of slavery, taxes, political gain- but the sad truth is, everyone loses. How can a country become so divided as to fight its own? Families were torn apart as sides were chosen. Hospitals were set u

I was blissfully whisked away to a bygone era on a tidal wave of literary enjoyment! Resplendent in historical details, yet not too cumbersome as to be weighty, this engaging story is sure to appeal to those who enjoy stories set during the Civil War.

I especially enjoyed the true story roots and first-hand accounts from Civil War journals. Stephenia McGee pens a story that you won't soon forget, by breathing new life into history and inviting us to come along for the journey.

A riveting civil war story that held me captive as I read about torn loyalties, spy rings, and a love story involving two people on opposite sides of the war. Historical fiction fans do not want to miss this! I love the author's historical notes at the end, and how fascinating history made it into her book. Stephenia McGee is one of my new favorite authors.

Overall an adventurous and sweet love story, this book transported me right into the Civil War.

I loved the characters and their hearts. I found the main character, Evelyn to be a bit whiney, but by the end of the book she really came full circle, which was something I enjoyed.

The point of view switches between her and Samuel, who I thought was a great character. A lot of times in fiction we see men represented as strong, buff, saving the day, kind of men. It was nice to read about a man who wa

This book has been super high on my TBR pile since before it was released so I was excited to finally get my hands on a copy of the audio version through audible. I thought the narrator did an incredible job and successfully grasped the energy and emotion of the story.

I was introduced to Stephenia's writing last year when I read her book Her Place in Time. Since then I've added the rest of her books to my TBR pile. I really appreciate her ability to draw the reader into the story in a way that y

I never really cared for history in school. It was always so boring to me and I could never remember one battle from the next. Stephenia McGee writes in such a way you forget you're reading historical fiction. The characters leap off the page and you forget they aren't real!

When I was reading the scene where the Yankee soldiers broke down the door to Evelyn's Aunt Mary's house I could picture it so vividly in my mind's eye. She has a way of describing people, places and events that make them st

"I swear, Evelyn Mapleton, you would be a fine catch for the theatre. Tell me, is it hard for you to fabricate such a persona or does it come easily?"

Never once did Evelyn Mapleton intend to put herself in the middle of a "space as wide as eternity", it just happened that way. Living in the much conflicted state of Virginia, where loyalties were wildly diverse in the midst of a young nation's civil war, she flees one place of supposed refuge in order to find another. But safety can be

Wow, just Wow!! What a wonderful story of love, faith, espionage, danger and intrigue. Above all, love. I have always been interested in the Civil War era and all that the men and women had to go through. Pretty much the same as what men and women go through in any and all wars. But Stephenia McGee brings it all alive and right there in front of you. Being able to make a real life out of an imaginary person and make it so believable is quite an accomplishment.

This is an action-packed historical fiction novel, set in the days during the Civil War. The heroine, Evelyn is one you can't help but like right from the start. Because of various circumstances, she is living with her aunt & cousin, who don't really like her...they are constantly worried that she will ruin their reputation, etc. Evelyn doesn't let that stop her. And when she steps in and rescues her cousin from a drunken soldier, you'd think they'd appreciate her a bit more. But no.

Whenever I pick up a book by Stephenia McGee, I know I’m going to be in for a great read. Eternity Between Us is no exception. Abounding in rich historical detail and populated with captivating, well-developed characters, this book brought history to life for me. It’s obvious McGee has researched extensively about the Civil War time period. The torn loyalties between families, friends, and states brought about by the war was heart-wrenching, and McGee did an exceptional job of showing this. I en ...more

Stephenia has a way of writing that makes you a part of the story.
It is fast paced and you won't want to put the book down until you finish. I spent most of the night finishing because I didn't want to come back.
I loved the characters. Stephenia has a way of making them come alive and I think I'm going to have to go with Evelyn. Evelyn is a special character in herself. I think because in some ways she's a lot like me. I also admired her because

I really enjoyed the story of Evelyn and Samuel. Set during the war between the north and south. Definitely a very hard time period. I love reading historical books.

Evelyn was such an amazing character. She was brave, so determined, protective of ones she cares about. She was also very caring. I just loved her character so much.
Samuel was working to be an doctor, had been to school just have to put in the hours to get official.

Also always good to have children in the story

Christian Historical Romance with an edge. Civil War has just broken out and families and friends are divided while others try to hide behind traditions. Love the character development and edgy plot. Evelyn is a Southern debutante and Samuel is a Northern doctor. While looking for her father Evelyn ends up behind enemy lines and working in the hospital. The author shows the hardships and conditions endured in the hospitals, prisons and how the peoples views change.

This was a great book that grabbed me from the beginning. Evelyn has a strong character and way of thinking that is far more advanced than the women of her time period. I loved that she had a heart that wanted to serve and was trying her best to help the cause. Samuel has a gift/curse that served him well as a medical doctor in training. Samuel has a compassionate heart as he serves his patients. The story was well developed and characters were memorable. I enjoyed learning about women and their ...more

In truth, I would give the novel a 3.75, not a 4.
The story is well written. The author obviously knows something of the events of the American Civil War.
I was fascinated by Samuel Flynn's desire to be a physician. I was less enchanted with Evelyn Mapleton. The author began the tale with Evelyn's spunk, but as the book progressed, her spunk became a need to be loved by her father.
I thought the pacing of the story through the first 10 chapters was too slow, for it took that long to bring Evely

Well-written and extensively researched Civil War Spy and romance novel that promises to maintain your attention from beginning-to-end. Most interesting that the author incorporated many actual people of the time into her characters. Evelyn, who did not fit into the Washington social scene, was left with an aunt and cousin due to her father's traveling reporter job. After a frightening experience with a Yankee's invasion of her Martinsburg home, the women fled to Front Royal. Through her work in ...more

I have read several of Mrs. McGee’s novels and I was anxiously waiting for this one. A Civil War story with word descriptions to make you feel like you are there. People on opposite sides of the war and a spy ring. What better story is there? I also loved that the heroine Evelyn was not a wimp. Being a strong woman she did things that a weak lady wouldn’t have done. Now I liked Samuel too because I like a good heart in a man. Lesser men wouldn’t have done some things Samuel did. A good romance, ...more
