I really enjoyed this book. It’s not exactly the light ‘celebrity romance’ you expect, and I enjoyed that thoroughly. This is my first Susannah Nix novel but it will certainly not be my last.

The main story does revolve around Alice and Griffin but there is a side plot with regard of Alice which is quite a sensitive social issue these days and it is very well presented. I don’t want to say too much not to spoil the plot, but I believe Susannah did a fantastic job showing Alice ways of thinking,

Rising Star (Starstruck) by Susannah Nix

The appeal of Rising Star for me hinged heavily on Alice. Alice is a character that readers can see pieces of themselves in. Nix created a character that was fascinating not because she lost her heart to a movie star, but because she stayed true to herself while doing it. Susannah Nix dared to show how awkward can be beautiful. Rising Star is right at the head of class when it comes to empowerment and that's a message that never gets old.

I have loved all of Susannah Nix’s books and I can say with confidence: this is her best work yet. The story enveloped me from page one and I could not get enough of it.

Rising Star centers around Alice the extra/PhD student and Griffin the actor. It’s a begrudging friends-to-lovers romance, in that it takes Alice a little while to warm up to Griffin. They barely know each other when Griffin asks Alice to dogsit for him while he’s on location in Atlanta and because she has to get out of her curre

I adored all three of the books in Ms. Nix's previous "Chemistry Lessons" series, so I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of her latest effort, "Rising Star," ever since the day it was announced. (To say that I was thrilled to be chosen to read and review an advance copy is something of an understatement.) Thankfully, "Rising Star" not only lived up to my expectations, it exceeded them.

I loved this book and its characters. Griffin, the hero, was super likeable and down to Earth, despite th

I’m not even sure where to start with this book. There are so many amazing things going on in it – some good, some unpleasant, all of them highly emotional. Alice and Griffin are so adorably awkward with each other. As painful as it sometimes is to watch, it’s also a thing of beauty. Alice is every girl who’s ever been caught in a situation she didn’t know how to get out of. One she had a hand in creating but wasn’t entirely of her own making. Griffin is sweet and charming, but oh so bumbling. H ...more

First of all, congratulations to Susannah Nix on her new book and yet another awesome romance that I couldn’t get enough of!

I received the ARC and devoured it in a day, because that’s just how good it was. I know that I’ll be my go-to book when I’m feeling down, because Alice and Griffin’s story was everything that I never knew I wanted.

It’s a delicious slow burn of a book and every single thing about the slow burn is spectacular. Alice is just like everyone else, she’s so relatable and so fun a

Rising Star was the perfect read-in-one-sitting kind of romance. I mean that literally, too. I knocked it out in about two and a half hours and couldn’t think of doing anything else until I finished it. It was the perfect mash-up of the friends to lovers and famous person/regular person tropes. I smiled like a fool through a good portion of the book, enjoying the banter, swoons and feels.

Is it ok to say I just flat-out adored Alice and Griffin bo

I need to begin that I love, love, love Alice's character. She went through a horrible event that no woman should have to endure but sadly is completely accepted in academia and many other professions. Why does our society attack the woman that is involved with  sexual harassment and sexual assault? She did nothing wrong!?! But yet, she is the one who is put under a looking glass from how she dresses to her sexual partners to her dating life! Yet, the man that committed the crime is not!?! Ok, I ...more

Rising Star is my first Susannah Nix story.

I truly enjoyed Alice and Griffin’s story. It is a sweet love story with great character development.

In the beginning their careers are not uncommon but the more I read the more their stories unfolded; there was so much more.

There were scenes that made me giggle, swoon and frown. Several great secondary characters that would make fantastic future stories.

If you are looking for a sweet love story with a bit of angst, here ya go!

This was my first Susannah Nix novel but it will NOT be the last. I really enjoyed this one - the story of a PhD student (and part-time extra on a TV show) and an actor from that TV show. The growth of their relationship from work acquaintances to friends to more was really well done. There is also a fantastic exploration of sexual harassment that was built into the story quite effectively.

You know when you find that perfect book that makes you feel a part of the storyline due to palpable protagonists and a well developed plot? Well I found it in Susanna Nix' Rising Star.

It is a sweet and intriguing story filled with thrilling moments, heartwrenching scenes and a beautiful HEA.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book. And I loved the story!

I love Hollywood romances and this one in particular because I found that the characters were so relatable to real life. Instead of having a super famous Hollywood actor, Griffin is making his way up, at the moment starring as a doctor in a TV series. Alice is a post-graduate student, working to finishing her thesis for a doctoral degree in Social Studies. She’s supplementing her scholarship working as an extra in the same series as Griffin. Due to the pecking order in the set, the “extras” don’ ...more

Rising Star by Susannah Nix is the first book in her new Star struck series. The book follows Alice, a sociology student trying to complete her dissertation and gain the PhD that she’s been working on for the last five years. As if that wasn’t stressful enough her roommate needs her to move out, so he’s boyfriend can move in, and her job as a background extra on the show Las Vegas General, is finished as it wraps up its final season. Now Alice is basically homeless with no income and a looming d ...more

The story Rising Star by Susannah Nix is a wonderful romance book that I loved reading. It not only has a wonderful storyline it also has two main characters that I grew to love with each chapter that I read. Alice Carlisle is a woman that is caring and intelligent. She is also about to lose the job that is paying her bills and having to find a new place to live, immediately. She has a wonderful personality and a good heart. She does have trust issues a

I don't typically enjoy Hollywood romances, but this one was fantastic! I loved the behind-the-scenes look at how TV shows and movies are made, and the different reasons people go into acting. I love that it was just a job for Alice and not a passion or something to pursue, because it showed a different perspective on the people who we see in the background of all of our TV and movies. Both of the characters were logical and down to earth, and dealing with problems individually that really round ...more

I fell in love with Susannah Nix’s work when I read REMEDIAL ROCKET SCIENCE, and her book of short stories, I & LOVE & YOU, sealed the deal for me.

Nix’s latest book, RISING STAR, is another winner, and everything I hoped. Her characters are so deeply human. They struggle things most people have been consumed by at one point or another in their lives: with money or finding a place to live before their lease is up; they worry about jobs, and if they measure up. One of the most appealing th

Rising Star is the first book that I have read by Susannah Nix and if this book is anything to go by, it won’t be the last of her books that I’ll read.
As well as being a great romance novel, Susannah Nix tackles the sensitive subject of sexual harassment and she does it really well.

Engaging characters: a sweet and funny read

Book 1 of the Starstruck series, this was only my second book by this author and I was still a little unsure just what to expect. I’d loved the previous book that I’d read and I tend to like Hollywood stories so I was eager to dive into this.

I thought the author did a great job with Alice and Griffin; they each had well-crafted backgrounds and nicely detailed story arcs and I liked how down to earth they both were, each with strengths and vulnerabilitie

This book is very cute. It also touched on a lot of topics that are going on today with lots of people. And I like how the author brought them up. Like Alice and the creepy professor. Her fears from how he is acting and treating her. Her fears of telling anyone of what he says and how it effects her. Like can she tell anyone? Will they believe her? Enter her working on a doctor show as an extra she meets Griffin who is the star of the show. Griffin is the new hot young actor. Griffin has doubts ...more

Susannah Nix knows how to write hot romantic tales that are also well plotted, well written and loads of fun. That was certainly the case with her latest, Rising Star. This is loads of pure romantic fun. It had just what I wanted, was well written, and had a great plot full of perfectly wonderful romance. I simply adored its leads, Griffin and charming Alice. What a treat! This kind of book was just the kind of relaxing, but entertaining, read I have been looking for. I am already a big fan of Susannah's work so I wasn't afraid of being disappointed or unhappy, but it is still the best when you can be so deliciously happy while reading a book. I'm a sucker for the celebrity/"normal" trope and this was a really well done version of it giving both characters full depth and stories of their own that didn't need the others to support them or make you lik ...more

Rising Star by Susannah Nix. This is an amazing book that kept me flipping pages way into the night. Its the story of Alice Carlisle who has been doing jobs in Hollywood as an extra on a hit soap opera. She had also been working on her dissertation for a Ph. D. Super adorable! Susannah Nix is an author who continues to impress me with her well developed plots, beautiful characters and complex storylines. This book starts off quick and I love that about books. I am not really into the slow burn kind of book. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I really, really enjoyed it. It didn’t take me long at all to become absorbed by the author easy to read writing style. There are some sensitive issues in the story but the author did a great job when writing about them. One of the great things about Susannah Nix novels is how the heroine is always an intelligent woman in STEM. I've been following this author since she first released Remedial Rocket Science, which was good, yet it's also a pleasure to see how in each subsequent novel she's improved her craft and the stories keep getting better with increasing depth. RISING STAR by Susannah Nix takes us into the world of Hollywood stardom. It’s the story of Griffin Beach, whose acting career is ascending, and Alice Carlisle, a doctorate student who also works as a TV extra to make money.

I think the author writes well and she did a great job in portraying the Hollywood lifestyle and the issues Alice experiences in the academic world. As interesting as these worlds were, I struggled with this book because on the whole I found it more bleak than uplifting. Grif

This is the first book I have read from Susannah Nix and I was pleasantly surprised. Normally when we think of celebrity romance we think of something light and fun but this wasn't it and I loved that!

I loved Alice! Miss Nix had a way of showing her strengths and weaknesses but even made her weaknesses seem like a strength. She did an amazing job on letting us in her head which was amazing because I felt like there was a subplot to this book (I don't want to ruin it for you) and she did a master
