Survive or Die.

It's not much of a school motto — not as inspiring as, say, "Let us give light to the world," or "Knowledge is liberty," or even just "Light and Truth." Those are all real school mottoes. So is this one. It belongs to the Hunters' Academy. And now, so do I.

Since she was twelve years old, Kacela Deluca has suffered debilitating migraines. On the eve of her

This is a serial. All sections in this story are novella-sized.

Kacie has been suffering from debilitating migraines as long as she can remember. On yet another trip to the nurse’s office, she encounters a woman claiming to be a recruiter for a private school. And she thinks Kacie is just the sort of person the school is looking for. That is, she thinks that Kacie has a touch of magic about her, and is a hunter. She whisks Kacie away to tour the campus, opening her eyes to a school full of super

Quick read that is good for fans of magical boarding school stories. It was entertaining enough but probably more suited to a younger audience than me. While I wont be seeking out the rest og the series I would read them if they fell into my lap (or ebook app).

Heads up 75% of my review is a rant

This rating is based on how I cannot stand being made to feel like an author is in it for the money. I Cannot stand when authors write “a book series” and the reality is that they basically wrote one long book and cut it into portions. The author then made those portions into “books”. And boom a series is born. To me it makes me feel like that author is really just in it to make money. This was a pathetic excuse for a book and if I paid for it I’d be ticked. Ho

Exciting, kinda short, story filled with adventure, magic and mayhem! Kacie's life is turned upside down when she trades her migraine-ridden existence for the unknown, mysterious wonders of the Hunters' Academy. She gets more than she bargains for when mayhem strikes and it's up to her to save the day. Good, fun read. Looking forward to see what the rest of the series brings! ...more

Survive or Die

Kaycee has suffered from migraines for four, excruciating years: years of sudden onset, uncontrollable vomiting, and struggling to catch up on missed schoolwork. That is, until Mia comes into her life, and Kaycee's worldview is shattered..

This is a great beginning. Short but no cliffhangers just unfinished. I like the main character and I like how she is growing. The plot is quick and fun. It's very clean and there isn't any type of romance although perhaps a hint for later??

Loved it

This is the type of story I love sharing with my younger boys. (They are huge Karen Lynch fans) Characters, written in a way you can feel a connection with. And an exciting plot, you take an interest in. Can't wait to share this story with them.

She is partnered with Souji, a shifter who refuses to return to his human form after the death of his previous hunting partner. Throughout the year Kacie is forced to deal with a multitude of threats to both herself and the academy, all the while trying to navigate the new school and re

True to Academy tales, a promising, very powerful magical ( who usually has no knowledge of their gifts) gets recruited into an elite Academy tasked to hone their skills, and in this case, to become hunters against an evil group. Needless to say, this is getting rated on this authors skill to make this unique and to keep the storyline from being predictable. Book one is the test to see if the MC is worthy of staying. Par for the course, yes, we know she has to pass, so it was the challenge and t ...more

Magical academy, shifters: short, entertaining read
Kacela is 16 and has had severe migraines for the last four years. She finally gets relief when she is invited to a private academy. A whole new magical world opens up to her. The characters are interesting and the book flows well. I like the fact that her roommate (Erin) takes her mentoring seriously. Erin treats Kacela with respect. Kacela is strong considering what she has been through during the most vulnerable years of her life. It is hard

The book is well written, short so more like novella length. But I don't mind that at all. The main character is a not that likeable she is kind of abrupt and rude. The book did lack depth for example I have no idea what Kacie looks like, zero nothing. Defo worth a read if you enjoy these types of books, but I am not going to read the rest of the series as I need to really like the characters and this was a little flat for me. 😢

Only one bad short.

I read this book in like 1 hour. I really loved the story line and for sure the characters. I didn’t pay attention to the length of it (which I’m glad for) or I wouldn’t have read it. There was a lot of information and story building in such a short book though and it was well written to the point I was disappointed when I got to the end. Great start to a series I need to read.

A good beginning

This book, though shorter than most, was really good. I enjoyed it very much. This is my second read through, and I will warn that future books are even shorter. I really enjoy Kacie and am looking forward to reading more about her as she discovers more about her psychic abilities , and learning more about her hunting partner, Souji. This book ends with some questions solved, but new larger ones arise.

This is the first book that I have read from this author and boy oh boy after reading this book I went running to get the second book before my Kindle unlimited expired. This book was the perfect size for a quick read filled with adventure, magic and mayhem. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

It did not connect with me

This story did not connect with me as the character development was limited and no action scenes or build up to the ending. The Hunter Academy had potential but and even the main character seemed one dimensional and there were no epic events or surprises.
Could have been better

A cross between several different popular books, but just missed the mark for me. A little Harry Potter, Vampire Academy, X-Men which is weird actually. Mostly because they are all based on gifted children at schools, but for this one, it didn't feel like high school age kids. It had the potential, but the end felt rushed. Things were getting interesting when someone gets ousted rather quickly and it rolls downhill from there. Don't rush to get the next book out. Spend time

Should Have Been Buffy's Alma Mater

This school is not like Hogwarts since there are a lot of cultures and beings represented in the student body, but it sure feels like a high school. And a high school training Hunters (or slayers)? Buffy would have fit in nicely (minus the valley girl ways). I wonder if Angel could have attended?

This book was ok

This is a quick read and was alright I gues. I probably am not the target demographic for this book and so I did not connect with the characters really. That kind of spoiled it for me. I think people aged 14-16 would probably enjoy this one.
This was really not good. It was more of a short story than a novel, the plot was formulaic, the characters were as deep as a puddle, and the magic was poorly explained. I just don't need to read more of this series. ...more

Fun without to much snark

This book was a lightweight fun read. It was fast moving and predictable. The heroine was strong and likable. She didn't go off half-cocked like so many other characters that show up in many YA novels. I just might read book two.

Fast engrossing read

I read this book in a day. The story was original and engrossing. I just with it wasn’t broken up into so many smaller books. Will definitely continue the series!

The main character KayCee learns she has magical abilities she was unaware of and is offered a chance to attend a magical academy to learn more about her magic and how to use it. She is pared with a shape shifting partner that takes a little getting use to. This is a great first story to the series, about 100 pages long. I enjoy the story-line and the writing. A very good beginning, worth the read.

Ya. Paranormal. Uf. Academy Setting. Training school. This story goes very quickly. Kind of like it only hits the highlights.

This story was interesting, a bit short though. It would have been interesting to read more about how Kacie is psychic and more about the school.
