Bred in the Bone by Kendra Elliot is the fourth book of the romantic suspense Widow’s Island series. This series is all at novella length and penned by Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh by alternating the books and switching the main characters.

This pair of authors have teamed up in the past for the romantic suspense Rogue River series of which a couple of the characters have moved over to this series but the books can be read and enjoyed separate from the Rogue River series. Each novella also con

The fourth novella in the Widow’s Island mystery book centres around Cate, former FBI agent on sick leave following a shooting that killed her partner. Returning to her home island to recover, she becomes embroiled in the new local doctor/coroner and the 20 year old mystery surrounding her old childhood friend.

I think this was my favourite of the series to date, aside from the first one. There’s something about Kendra Elliot’s writing th

Bred to the Bone was another fantastic installment in the Widow’s Island series with some great resolution to the background plot that has run throughout the first three books.

When FBI special agent Cate Wilde ends up at the scene of a deadly hit-and-run, she expects the Widow’s Island sheriff’s department will have no trouble closing what appears to be a simple case. But when it becomes known that the victim was involved with another crime, from twenty years ago, Cate’s life is thrown into chao

Kendra Elliot's Bred in the Bone is the fourth novella in the Widow's Island series, which is set on an island in the Pacific Northwest. After reading the third installment, I went straight to the fourth and finished the novella in one sitting. This story centers on Cate, an FBI agent on medical leave, and Henry, the island's only doctor. Like Whispers of Bone (Widow's Island #3), this novella contains two mysteries: a present-day murder and the disappearance of Cate's childhood friend, Samantha ...more

This is the fourth book in the series, but I found it easy to read as a stand-alone book with the great writing and storytelling.

FBI agent Cate is back on Widow's island after recovering from a traumatic gunshot wound and still having some PTSD issues but she wants to keep investigating the case of her childhood friend Samantha who went missing many, many years ago when a necklace of Samantha turns up in a barn on the island. Is this a new clue for the agent or just an old piece of evidence that

Read like an episode of a tv drama.
The twist at the end was good but unraveled too fast.

I devoured this in one sitting. The story focuses on Cate, an FBI agent on leave after her partner was killed. She has been seeing our local doctor Henry and focusing on re-investigating the disappearance of their childhood friend Samantha. A hit-and-run case Tess is working soon gives them a new lead.

Had I read the synopsis I might have known we would be getting answers but I enjoyed going in cold. What a ride!

Cate is set to go back to Seattle after the holidays and I wondered how that would im

Bred in the Bone was??? a roller coaster??? The plot went in a direction I was not at all expecting and that was Very Dramatic. I'm not really sure how I feel about it aside from shocked? It did answer a really big question I had regarding Samantha, but???? I don't know if I liked it or not.

I did love the ending of the novella, though. It set up some really intriguing situations that I'm s

I have really enjoyed the Widow's Island Series and now that the mystery of what happened to Samantha has been solved, I wonder where the last two books of the series are going to go. This novella is very short and rushed. It definitely needed more pages to flesh out the current murder mystery, the mystery of Samantha and the romance between Cate and Henry.

This book blew my mind away. It was hard hitting and full of suspense and twisted reveals. I most certainly did not expect how the author solved a childhood mystery.
The characters were brilliant, the fast pace gave me an adrenaline rush. I had to finish this book even when I was exhausted.
A fantastic thriller, eager to read the next

FBI Agent Cate Wilde recuperates on Widow's Island. When a hit-and-run leaves a man dead, they feel sure they can prevent the murderer's escape. The investigation, however, turns up clues in a 20-year-old missing person case. I didn't really enjoy this one. Although it happened near Christmas, it lacked the charm of Christmas stories. I did not read the previous installment in the series. Characters seemed a bit flat, and the story itself also lacked adequate development. I won an electronic cop ...more

This was a nice ending for a good series of novellas. At least I think it's the ending with the mystery of Samantha wrapping up. Although I've got to say I clearly did not see that twist coming till it was presented to us. Considering it was a novella and also like it's predecessors the stories were short and impactful and managed to give a story short and sweet. A good short read for mystery lovers.

The fourth and happily not the end of this series.
Taking turns writing these novellas, Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliott compliment each other’s style to fashion seamless stories set in the fictional Widow’s Island.
This is Kendra’s turn and Cate takes on a more prominent role. Deputy Tessa Black is her childhood friend, both grew up on the islands and went away. Tessa returned to support her Mum, Cate is on medical leave following an FBI assignment ended her her being shot and a colleague killed.

In the conclusion to the Widow's Island series of novellas, we finally find out what happened the Tessa and Cate's friend, Samantha, 20 years earlier. Cate is helping Tessa with what appears to be an open and shut case of manslaughter. The town drunk was hit and killed while riding his bicycle on the main road. The driver of the car did not stay at the scene. When they find her, she admits to killing the man to save her son's reputation. It turns out that her son and this man were involved in th ...more

This series is co-written by authors Elliot and Leigh. I really wanted to like the series. I read a book from each of them in the series back to back. (Ohhhh my head hurts now.)

Elliot’s writing style isn’t quit as choppy as Leigh, but the plot and characters were flat. Bored out of my mind...just couldn’t connect with this. Thankfully a short read and definitely not a fan of F* bombs.

This one was really good! A big mystery is finally solved! I wish these books were longer.
Finding the jewelry that belonged to Samantha out in an orchard pumphouse where teens used to go to carouse has given Cate and Tessa a new lead to their friend's disappearance. But, in a shocking turn, a seemingly unrelated hit and run death of the town drunk leads them even further along the path to discovery. I just can't get enough of this series and I was thrilled to be tracking once again with FBI Agent Cate Wilde as she and Tessa hunt the cold trail.

I am SO glad that there are going to be two more books coming in this "novella" series from Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh. I have read all the books both authors have published to date and was thrilled to see they, again, collaborated on another series together. They are both such talented writers, individually, so together they pack quite a punch! My only criticism or comment I have to make is really a request. PLEASE do not let so much time pass before the next installment comes in this wild ...more

I listened to the first four novellas in this series and I found them to be just OK. They were free so I can't complain too much. Some were very predictable and the majority of the voices were almost all OK. This series takes place on a remote island in the Northwest and involves Kate and her long-time friend Tessa. They have the usual murders and of course, the new doctor on the island who will of course, be falling in love with Cate, the main character. These are all short novellas with about ...more

At first I worried. I can't say more without spoilers, but I thought maybe I'd been jipped. But all that's well ends well. It turned out to be a well constructed smoke screen.

I love when these two get together, but I feel this isn't my favorite. Overall, the romantic suspense turned out to be light on both romance and suspense which is disappointing.

An okay read. I think with another 10k words per installment, this could have been fleshed out better.

Bred in the Bone is part 4 in the series that takes place on remote Pacific Northwest island. And boy is it a doozy.

In the third book Cate and Tessa find a huge clue in the cold case of their missing friend. That along with a deadly hit and run really breaks open the case.

A shocking confession leads Cate and Tessa in a whole new direction with a shocking conclusion.

Lots of changes by the end of this book especially for Cate. I see there are still 2 more books to come in the series and curious

Another murder on the island (I'm starting to think this is NOT the best place to visit given the number of people who end up dead here), but this murder helps Cate and Tessa (and the entire island) finally find come closure to Sam's twenty-year-old disappearance.

But it's not as easy as that. Naturally.

Secrets have a way of bubbling up and when Cate finds out that there WERE people who knew more than they told when Sam went missing, it throws her. (And here's where I feel like I shouldn't say mu

I don’t want to give anything away because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t read this novella yet. Like I’ve stated in previous reviews of the other novellas that this series is highly recommended for Romantic Suspense readers. The best part is these are short novellas, so don’t take long to read at all. It didn’t take me long to read and finish them before the New Year, and now I can’t wait until October 2020. That’s when the next two novella

This is book 4 in the Widow's Island series. You do not need to read the series in order and all are stand alone. Cate is recovering from a gun shot while on the job with the FBI. She comes home to Widow Island to visit with her best friend Tess and explore her feelings for island doctor Henry. Tess is on the local police force, both effected by the unsolved case of their friend Samantha disappearing when they were teens. I love this series. This book started off slowly, and I did not have high hopes, but it picked up and ended up being a very satisfying entry in the series. One of my initial annoyances was the initial solution to the series mystery of the fate of Cate and Tessa’s childhood friend, Samantha, but I ended up really liking what they did with the story. The authors really seem to have hit their groove with this series, and the last two books have been much better than the first two. Apparently there will be at least two ...more
