I have had this cookbook for many years and it is excellent! As an experienced cook I have referred to this many times if I was unsure of a technique or just wanted a good basic recipe. At the beginning of each segment there is a step by step guide with pictures. Very helpful to the novice cook, or when teaching a child. My children liked being able to see what they were expected to do next, and were able to see the results and how they compared with the cookbook!
The first grown-up cookbook that was mine. My folks gave it to me when I was about 12. I wish that it was still in print. Sections with basic cooking techniques that expand to how they work in other recipes.
This cookbook has been in my family my entire life and so basically it's one of my firsts. I love it for the nostalgic qualities more so than the recipes, but I have to say they are pretty good :)
