‘Listen to the heart’

Brazilian born Valeria Teles is an inspirational writer, author, first-prize fitness competitor, online coach and the creator of the Fit for Joy philosophy. She has lived in the US and France, begun her professional career in the arts, both music and dance, before finding her way to fitness, writing and coaching.

This very fine book is about fitness – but about blending physical fitness with spiritual and emotional fitness. Valeria writes ‘After more than twenty years of part

It has been said that the author is transformed by the writing of a book. This is certainly the case with Valeria Teles, author of Fit For Joy.

There are many good things to say about Fit For Joy, but I will limit this review to three main points so as to leave the reader to have their own experience with this magnificent work.

One of most remarkable aspects of Fit For Joy was witnessing the transformation of the author as she tells her story. Throughout the book you can literally sense the matu

An inspirationally joyful journey toward the importance of love + kindness in the moment!

Although, each of our journeys through life, are uniquely our own + the paths travelled may seem light years apart, “Fit for Joy” speaks volumes about how we are all connected, and how our stories provide a way for each of us to grow.

It takes a tremendous amount of courage to share a life story, warts, insecurities, fears, and all—Valeria gave the world a gift by sharing hers. Valeria’s life-dots cobbled tog

This book is about healing and health in a holistic pursuit: treating both body and mind. The book is broken into three main categories with a two-part conclusion and aims to inspire readers via a reflective journal approach from the author's perspective of their own life. Each short reflection and small anecdote connect to the larger tapestry of what Valeria coins "the healing power of being you." It's an impressive work for the author given her traumatic past and is a testament to the power of ...more

With Fit for Joy, Valeria explores the importance of combining spirituality with physical fitness. Opening her heart to readers, she reveals the path she traveled that led her to the realization that true joy comes from within. Revealing yourself—and your life experiences—to others requires courage… and courage is something that Valeria most certainly possesses. In this book, she candidly shows us what her life was like growing up in Brazil; later, we follow her along her journey to the United S ...more

Healing through courage and forgiveness

Fit for Joy: The Healing Power of Being You is Teles’ own personal story of her journey as a fitness competitor. Fit for Joy made me stop and think about forgiveness and how by forgiving, or not forgiving, it can affect me mentally, spiritually, even physically. Wh

Fit for Joy is a raw and emotional story that is told from the heart of  Teles. She takes you along for the journey she faced including all the highs and lows. A personal account of the struggles she faced to find a healthy center balance.  Fit for Joy is full of reflection and relatable struggles that many people deal with daily. A really inspiring read.

I must confess that reconciling the content of this book with the photograph of its author and the book’s title (both on the cover) is no small undertaking. “Fit,” in English, normally refers to one’s physical shape. And “joy” can mean anything from a minor pleasure to a major passion.

However, I’ll let you, as a potential reader, decide for yourself.

What I can say, in any case, is that Valeria Teles has done a remarkable job considering that English is not even her native language.
