This was the first in-depth bible study I've done with Courtney Joseph. I really liked that it was simple and easy to do. It takes maybe 20 minutes in the morning. I've done other bible studies from Beth Moore or Priscilla Shirer which are more comprehensive, but take a lot more time. This was a great one to participate in if you don't have 1 hour or more to spend. Honestly, this is probably one of the first ones I've completed every page. I still got a lot out of the study though. I'd never done another Ruth study so the whole "Jesus is our kinsman redeemer" thing was new and amazing.
I would recommend buy this one vs getting the kindle edition. I used a journal with it to answer the questions, but its not like the other "one chapter a day" studies that Courtney Joseph does. There was a lot more to answer and write down and it would have been better just to buy it and write in the book.
This was a simple and very practical study of Ruth. It further instilled the ideas and life lessons I’ve learned while previously studying the book of Ruth. Courtney Joseph and Beverly Wise help you to seek the truths found in God’s Word and soak them up, also making it applicable to our lives today.
I enjoyed this study because it is in depth yet easy to complete and understand. I loved that I could spend time in it each day (or miss a day or two) and feel filled up but not have to spend an hour to complete it. The author did a beautiful job teaching as well as speaking to my heart.
I never realized how LynchBurg relied upon faith in the Lord. I also didn't know of the significance of the different traditional behavior within this book of the Bible before reading this study. I felt myself better understanding God's love and my faith has grown.
I have a complicated relationship with negatively reviewing well-meaning Christian work, but I could not recommend this to a friend.
I feel like an outsider, but I didn’t enjoy this study. I’m willing to admit it may be more about me because Ruth is not one of my favorite books of the Bible (because of how we frame it as a romantic love story).
It might be a good study if you’re completely new to studies or the story of Ruth, but I didn’t find it pushed me to learn, love, or think deeper. It immediately answered all the fill in the blanks. I was pretty surprised how turned off I was by it the entire read. Soured. I think the narrative around the story just felt very forced. It’s not a fairytale. It’s important, and it’s about redemption, and God’s hand in our lives, but not quite Cinderella.
It may be the perfect fit for some readers, and I want to acknowledge that, but if you’re further along in your journey and want to read a book of the Bible for what it is (and not a flowery feel good take), this may not be for you.
This book was very disappointing. I had read the study on Ecclesiastes that Courtney Joseph and her mother had wrote and loved it. When I saw they had written a Bible study on Ruth, I was ecstatic. Then I started reading it. I guess her mother didn't help write much of this study. It feels very superficial and not very deep. There isn't much to be learned from this study. I'm very disappointed since I recommended this for a women's group I'm in and now we're all trudging through a basic Bible study.
The best part of this book was at the end when she was teaching about Jesus being our kinsman-redeemer. I was fed more spiritually during that week or days than I was throughout the whole study. I didn’t like how she asked the questions & then, most of the time, gave the answers right after. It would’ve been best to put them at the back of the book or something. By doing them right after, it allowed for people to just read ahead rather than taking the time to read the verses.
I enjoyed this study. I recommend not getting the ebook since there are so many questions. I love the book of Ruth. I love the layout and breakdown of this book. It’s a little overwhelming at times but it keeps you on track if you stay dedicated to it. It did get a little repetitive, basic and boring at times but still a good small study.
I’ve studied Ruth a couple of times in other studies. I liked the format of Courtney’s study. It was user friendly and informative. I was pleased to learn additional things about the book of Ruth that weren’t covered in other studies.
