Disclaimor: I knew A.J. in college and we still somewhat keep in touch online and I do consider her a friend. I will do my best to remove any bias, howeer.

When I begin to read Paige's Story, I felt like I was buckling in for another "young girl becomes the savoir of the nation" type story. Not that there is anything wrong with that per-say, just that it's been done to death. However, Paige, herself, didn't come off as another Mary-Sue/Mockingjay as much as I had expected. Sure, she's hyper

SO - full disclosure - I received a free copy of this book via a Twitter giveaway by the author (or the author's husband).

That being said - I am SO glad I did. I really enjoyed this book... way more than I thought I would. It's about a young girl, Paige, who is basically a really smart, sarcastic girl who gets swept up in the business of the "grown up world" around her. And rather than being an annoying teenage character like so many books have - I really liked her. She was a well-written

Bam! This book is great. Full disclosure, I met the author in college and knew she had a great imagination. It is very interesting to see this vision of the future with artificial intelligence. The sometimes short chapters were refreshing, instead of books just having an extra line in the middle of a chapter to change scenarios. I'm looking forward to reading more, I want to see this world expanded, and more with these characters. The highest of fives!

I enjoyed this story a lot. There is room for improvement but I think this is a pretty good first novel for the author. There are several characters to get behind along with a storyline that should hold your interest throughout. I liked the references to pop culture interjected at different points. I am looking forward to the next installment. I would also like to add that I had the opportunity to speak with the author and her husband and I felt like we connected on many common interests. ...more

A. J. Bass's debut novel is a must read for young adults and adults alike, especially those who enjoy the genres of science fiction and dystopian / post-apocalyptic fiction. The plotline is compelling and moves quickly without rushing. Bass's description tugs the reader deliberately into the story, and her witty dialogue and frequent use of allusions will delight readers of all abilities and interests. At the end of the novel, you will find yourself wondering how soon she can finish the second ...more

This was a great debut novel. I very quickly became invested in the characters and cared what happened to them. I look forward to more from this author!

For a first-time author I was very impressed by this story.
It pulls you into the world and makes you want to take up residence. It is one of those books you find yourself reading and saying "eh, just one more chapter tonight" and then it's 2am and you've read 19 chapters, with the full intention of reading another 10 before thinking about sleep. It's an engaging story that kept my interest from start to finish. And I love the characters that Bass has written and I am very much looking forward

From a new writer that has made a perfect story, a can’t miss. A story of Paige, a brilliant young lady and her times. A sassy and determined teenager thrown into a new environment. A future where man and machine collide. It is a story that will make one laugh, cry, and bring serious thoughts. Follow her and her friends…no her new family through a world split by derision. A lesson in rights and discrimination. Will we as a race change? There is tragedy and love, and of course the other basic ...more

Quick read, I couldn't put it down

Could be considered a YA sci-fi story, but I'm far from a young adult and I couldn't stop reading. Some new and interesting twists on the idea of robots in human society, and characters who are fascinating and colorful. I can't wait to see when the next installment is coming.

Simply amazing.

It's the book I didn't know I needed. The humour is on point and unique to itself. It was really hard to put down at times. The characters are one of my personal favorites about the book. You'll grow to love them.

Awesome Story!

While I was a bit hesitant to start reading this given the title, I’m glad I did. Touching and thoughtful, the story takes a look at the lives if synthetic beings, which could be a stand-in for any marginalized group in society. As such, the book not only is a great sci-fi story, it is also a good social commentary as well. Try the first few chapters and you will be hooked too! I hope A.J. Bass keeps the story going in a couple more sequels. Also, I hear that this story is now

You are immediately immersed in a richly imagined world where each character is brought to life with stunning detail.
I would not be surprised to find A. J Bass to be considered one of the most prodigious science fiction/ fantasy writers of our generation and look forward to the rest of this thrilling series.

Compelling Characters & Intricate Plot

While the story started slow in the first few chapters, all of this was needed to build the world portrayed in this story. Readers will love Paige immediately and appreciate the nod, via synthetic rights, toward our current political climate.

A.J. Bass was born in the never ending cornfield known as Indiana, grew up there, and lives there still. She likes corn. Don’t judge.

In the winter of 1991, her mother gave her a copy of Mega Man 3 as a Christmas gift and immediately sparked a love of science fiction, video games and, of course, robots.

She graduated Indiana University in 2004 with a degree in studio art, which is why she needs a

“I… do not,” Paige replied, feeling sheepish. “That’s privilege right there, and I don’t begrudge you it. And believe me, we can use all the allies we can get, but remaining silent in the face of injustice is the same as supporting it.” 1 likes
