Number-crunching Velma Johnson's perfectly planned life is right on course.

That's a lie. Sure, she's got the lucrative job. She's got the posh apartment. But her sister nabbed Velma's Mr. Right. There has to be a man out there for Velma. Hopefully, one who's hunky, wears pressed suits, and has a diversified financial portfolio. He'll be exactly like, well... her sister's n

4 Blurb Worked and The Book Did, Too! Stars

How many times have you read the blurb and thought... This is something I really want to read. It seems fun or sexy or intriguing...whatever. It hooked you and made you go click-click and the book was yours.

This book had a blurb that really laid out the idea of uptight financial planner chick pinning for the guy she thought was all that. Instead, the "perfect guy" falls for her sister. Biker/Band Manager is the brother to the weddin

Going Down on One Knee is the first book I have read from Christina Hovland and I have to say, I am impressed with her writing style. I found this book to be quirky, fun, humorous, and heartwarming. This is a total opposites attract romance and it checks off every box when it comes to the genre. Now, I'll admit that I first wanted to read this book based off the cover (come on, look how cute it is), but am happy to s

I knew I had to read this the moment I laid eyes on the blurb, but I frankly did not expect to love this book as much as I ended up doing!
This was my second Christina Hovland book and I probably enjoyed it even more than The Honeymoon Trap!

Going Down on One Knee is the perfect mix of humor, romance and smut! This had me howling in laughter at times, but I loved the message behind it all: you can’t plan love, and you don't choose who you love!

My Pink Fairytales
First book of the year for me and it was great!
Since my babies’ nanny/housekeeper quit her job four months ago, i haven’t been able to find the time to read or write my reviews. I missed my pink fairytales so badly, that i vowed to myself to pick something up and this book was already marked as “currently reading” on GR, so here i am. I’M BAAAACK!

Now, Christina Hovland is a new author for me and i must say it was love at first chapter. Perfect chick lit to read on Monday, just to start your week

I loved the beta read and I love the final just as much!

A rock band manager with a heart of gold, Brek takes over his sister's bridal coordinator business. He's just helping until his sister is back on her feet because she's literally been ordered to bed rest.

Velma is recovering from heartache because her sister is marrying her ex-fiance, and ideal man according to her algorithms.

I love Velma's stiff approach to dating. It's the kind of overthinking we all do when we're disappointed and feeli

Velma johnson is a successful woman with a five year plan. Only her five year plan includes her co-worker Dean who is presently dating her sister. Dean is the one man she has crushed on for years, but her heart is about to be shattered when her sister announces some pretty big news. Luckily, Dean’s Friend Brek keeps Velma from feeling down in the dumps. Too bad, he is a rocker with tattoos….not the type of man she would ever go for. But, he makes her feel weak in the knees and her heart beat jus ...more

I readily admit that the whole badass biker becoming a wedding planner to help his pregnant sister out was what peaked my curiosity, not that I don’t believe a badass biker could plan a wedding, because I do, but since this one appeared to be quite reluctant, the need to find out just what happens to the poor man was strong. Couple that curiosity with the whole opposites attract romance and I had no choice but to get my hands on this book and I have to say that I thoroughly enjo

He manages a rock band; she manages investment portfolios. They don't match on paper or anywhere else. But still... inexplicably this pair learn they make a great team through wedding plan fiascos, sharing a condo, bad dates, and discovering love has a sense of humor. When he tosses out the rule book, this pair gave me some amazing reading magic.

How else do you describe a book that is not usually in my genre but blew me away?! I usually don’t do books with much humor in them but if this is what I’ve been missing out on, things are going to change! Brek was the manager of a hard driving rock band who drove a bike and lived his life on the road without much family contact. Velma/Velvet was a very straight laced, successful business woman who had a crush on her twin Claire’s soon to be husband, Dean since she was a young girl…w

Velma thought she found her sunshine until she was doused by a bout of rain. What happens when the road to happiness takes a detour into uncharted territory? Hovland makes heartache fun. Going Down on One Knee is a new beginning for a broken heart. Brek is Velma's road less traveled, but proves to be a perfect fit for love. Sometimes it takes stepping out of our comfort zone to find a happy ending. A lightly insightful way to look at a powerful piece of advice.

Velma Johnson believes in planning. She has a well-paying job (a financial planner), has spreadsheets and algorithms rating people she dates and is extremely particular about her home and her things, especially her parking spot (you’ll figure that out when you read the book :P)

All that, and the fact that her Mr. Right is dating her sister. But when she meets Breckenridge Montgomery- a person who is as unorganized as a human can be, she realizes that her algorithm and planned decision making has

Going Down on One Knee is the opposites attract story of Velma and Brek. Velma has secretly been in love with her twin’s boyfriend for years. They are now newly engaged and Velma finally has to let go of her crush. Brek is the grooms’ best friend. He has come back to town to help his pregnant sister. His sister is currently on bed rest and her wedding planning business will tank if she lets it go. He also needs a place to stay and Velma has a room to rent.

What do a financial planner and a band manager have in common? Not much, except for hot chemistry and a wedding. Brek and Velma have an off-the-charts, super-charged attraction that leads to a slow-boil romance. Combine that with the absolutely hilarious idea of a biker-dude brother taking over his sister’s wedding planning business and you’ve got an incredible romantic-comedy.

Velma has always been the good girl in the family. She works hard, and she has totally bought into the idea of algorithm

“You're trying to control things that are out of your control instead of embracing what can be.”

Velma's life revolves around her plans. In 5 years she managed to be a financially independent woman, has her own apartment, investments and enough income to move to a more comfortable home after marriage and the planned and desired three children. There's only one little problem: Mr. Right, future father of her kids and her co-worker, Dean, just proposed her sister Claire.

Two opposites attract. Velma is a little stuffy. Not really willing to take chances. Brek is the tattooed biker that curses and is extremely confident. Together these two bring out the best of each other. But, to get Velma to take a chance on Brek is not something she’s willing to try. When Brek gets stuck in Denver to help out at his sister’s wedding planning business, oh my God, everything takes on a pretty hilarious turn of events. Everything that can go wrong, will, with some

Wow this is insanely good. I had a love hate relationship with these characters. However I still bawled my eyes out when they storyline unfolds.
They saw opposites attract. This novel proves just that. Velma is so closed out at the beginning. She has so many plans laid out with five years plans and blah. It's like she never let loose.
Enter the troublemaker Brek. He breaks hearts just by walking in the room. Band manager and biker, he does NOT fit Velma's mold.

This is my first book from christina and let me say I fell in love with it. When I read the blurb I figured it's going to be funny and man it was funny and also a bit of emotional. You have Brek who is a rocker, biker, tough guy, and his sister asked him to do her job as a wedding planner, well shoot how much hotter can he get..
Then you have Velvet, shes a organized person, always has everything by spreadsheets and I mean everything even the guys she dates..

This is an opposites attract story. Velma is an investment portfolio manager and Brek is a band manager who is there for his sister and looks after her wedding planning business while she is on vert pregnant bed rest.

Talk about romantic comedies. This is just what the doctor ordered if you are a fan of these types of books. Brek and Velma were great. Although, they had help in the form of friends and family. Which I hope to see more of again in the future.

Brek is like a fish out of water in the wedding planning game. He rides a motorcycle and plays guitar. Yet, family is important. So, when his sister needs him to help out, he is willing to lend a hand. Brek gets off to a rocky start with a bride that bails

4.5 completely adorable stars. Going Down On One Knee is the first book of Ms. Hovland's that I've read but it totally delivered and I'm thinking my one-click finger might be getting a workout.

Velma is a completely reliable, utterly predictable person. She's a financial planner during work hours and a life planner all the rest of the time. When her sister falls for Velma's dream guy, it threw a major wrench into her five year plan but when the groom's best friend shows up looki

I like sweet and geeky but man, this heroine's squeaky clean, goody-goody ways (and language!!!) put me off big time. Instead of her insecurities and issues making her relatable and real, I just found her annoying.

It's hard for me to like a book (even if the H is sexy and hot) when the h isn't someone I like.

This book was so meh, that I got bored after every few pages. The romance happened behind the scenes I'm guessing because I sure as hell missed how they fell in love.

Velma Johnson is happy that her sister Claire is getting married, it's her choice of groom she's not crazy about. Velma thought she would be the one marrying Dean, not Claire. What's done is done, and when the happy couple announce they will be dropping by with Dean's friend Brek, Velma wills herself to put on a brave face. Brek Montgomery is not what she expected Dean's friend to look like; he's tattooed, sports longish hair and rides a Harley. What you would expect from a man who manages a roc

This book had a cuteness about it. Not sure if that was intended or not, but all the same, it was. The Heroine is a bit uptight and straight laced. It's not so much that she's a goodie two shoes, but she doesn't allow herself to really let loose and have fun. She has a five-year plan and a dating spreadsheet that rates the men she dates. First of all, the "boxes on her well-crafted list" is a very downgrading term to be used for what Velma was doing. She had a spreadsheet with an algorithm that was rating all her dates from one to 10 according to some traits the men she was dating had. I got creeped out reading this. Why would she want to keep a memo of the men she dated in the past but didn't work out for her? Her saving point is that she realized that she made mistakes and owned up to them. I was expecting a lot from Brek. For ...more
