Wow this book marks the 21st time I have read a Dragon Masters Book. I can easily state that as a family we really love these books! A few years ago, I read the first eight books of this series to my son. Then his interest was drawn away. My youngest daughter really enjoyed them and the three of us read them, she listened to her brother or I read. This year my youngest has been reading them to me. She gets a little frustrated that I have not read ahead now, because it often means she reads an extra chapter or two because I cannot tell her what is about to happen. This year we also found out that my nephew has been reading them and was only 1 book ahead of us. He is reading the physical books and We are reading the eBook editions. This is a great story in a wonderful series. My youngest daughter is insistent that we will read the whole series. And she has spent her reading challenge money buying all the kindle editions that are available. Including Griffin’s Guide for Dragon Masters.
I have said it before, and I state it again, ‘this series really has staying power’. I have read some of the stories 4 or 5 times now. And have been reading them for over 4 years. And I still enjoy the stories as do my children. My son who thought he had outgrown these stories has been sitting in and listening to his sister read them to me again lately. It is also great to know that my brother’s family loves them as much as ours. It is fascinating to watch the kids interact and compare notes about the books that they are both reading. And to predict what will happen next based on the endings of the book, or title of the next as we queue it up. And when we started this one she read well beyond her daily required reading time.
One of the best things about this series is that it is a true series. In that each story builds upon the next. The stories are strong enough to be read on their own, but as a whole we get to watch the growth of the group as they come together as a team and learn to work together and support each other. And we see some characters come in and out of the stories. And in this one we meet new dragon masters and their legendary dragon Naga the earthquake dragon. He is so large and powerful he has two dragon masters. And you will find out more about them by reading this story. The next battle with Maldred the evil wizard takes place, and there are some surprises in store for us and the dragon masters we are reading about.
This is the first volume illustrated by Daniel Griffo. I believe the fifth illustrator so far for the series. The illustrations keep a consistent feel and look. But Each artist leaves their own mark on the books they work on. Some illustrations stand alone and some wrap around the text and span two-page spreads. And my daughter absolutely loved the cover of this one.
This is another excellent read in a great series. These are fun books for young readers, but also entertaining enough for older readers. I am continually impressed with the staying power of this series. After multiple reads over several years I still really enjoy returning to the Dragon Masters. And look forward too many more reads in this series, as my daughter is insistent, she will read them all to me! And she insisted we give it 5/5 stars! A great read in a great series!
Read the review on my blog Book Reviews and More and reviews of other books by Tracey West.
The story quality has somewhat improved in this volume from the previous one (the poorest so far in my opinion) but the style is still stuttering and repetitive. Maybe this is actually beneficial in a certain way for a children's book? Anyway, my son is now hooked again after reading this volume and we ordered 14 immediately, so that says something too. After we read book 12, we both thought we were through with the Dragon Masters series.
Jack said 5 but I’m keeping it real because I had to force him to finish this one. Too many characters in this one and not enough actually happening. If you’ve read one you’ve read them all unfortunately.
Very fast-paced and exciting. Again full of plot holes my kids didn’t notice. Totally story doorway, these are. I had a hard time suppressing my snarky commentary, but my kids BEG to read them, so there you go.
I liked it because a lot of wizards turned Maldred into [spoilers] and some other stuff that happened to Maldred [spoilers but it involves the dragon].
{My thoughts} – There is so much that has happened in this series from the beginning. There are so many new Dragon Masters and Dragons that have been introduced. In this book we get the meet an Earthquake Dragon named Naga. He is a really strong dragon that is hidden away and has two Dragon Masters. Not one but two!
Maldred got away with both the Silver Key and the Gold Key in the last book. His goal was to get to the Earthquake Dragon and use it’s power to control the world. Drake and the Silver and Gold Dragon Masters head out to help him in trying to stop Maldred from getting his hands on the Earthquake Dragon. What will come of the world with Maldred in control?
The hope is that the combined five Dragon Masters will be able to put a stop to Malred. The added dragons and then the help of knowledge is meant to save the day. I am not sure if that is what really happened, well I know what happened, but I don’t want to say.
I think this is an incredibly well written and illustrated book set for young readers. I cannot wait to share this series with my girls when they get a little older. My only question at this point in the series is what happened to Eko and her dragon? Hopefully that will be answered eventually in upcoming books? I look forward to hopefully reading the next book in the series very soon!
This is a fun series with great characters and a wonderful storyline. I picked it up for my nephew who has developed a love for reading and I think he is going to really enjoy this one!
Dragon Masters Eye of the earthquake dragon by Tracey West is an action-packed, thrilling adventure that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. The story revolves around Maldred of the Red Hills, a dark wizard who seeks to control the legendary Naga, an earthquake dragon with the power to destroy anything it wishes.
What makes this book truly exciting is the world-building and character development. The author creates a vivid and detailed world that is fantastical and relatable, while the characters are well-rounded and easy to root for. The action sequences are intense and well-written, and the pacing is just right to keep readers engaged from start to finish.
Moreover, the book is not just about action and adventure; it also has valuable life lessons that readers can take away. The story teaches readers about the dangers of power and the importance of humility, even when on top.
Overall, Dragon Masters: Eye of the Earthquake Dragon is a must-read for fans of fantasy and adventure. It has a well-crafted plot, relatable characters, and valuable life lessons, making it a great addition to any library.

Eye of the Earthquake Dragon Lower-level Juvenile Fiction book
The Eye of the Earthquake Dragon is the tale of four young dragon masters on a quest to stop the evil wizard Maldred from obtaining control of the powerful Earthquake Dragon, Naga. Maldred’s plan is to steal the Gold and Silver keys, use them to control the twin dragon masters that then control Naga. But his plan is thwarted when the young dragon masters rush to the rescue.
This book is perfect for lower-level juvenile readers because the vocabulary is appropriate for second and third graders, the engaging storyline is straightforward, and every page has intriguing illustrations that help enhance the story. Early readers will really enjoy this story because it has a “big kid” feel but with the readability of a beginner chapter book.
Having twin dragon masters was something new, and the image of that massive earthquake dragon is kind of terrifying. I'm glad they could stop Maldred... but I'm severely weird out and disturbed by his fate. I'm glad there was an actual cost to Maldred trying to "destroy the world" in actually destroying some farms back in Drake's home.
Seemed a bit more interesting than some of the previous installments.
Especially by the time you're at the 13th book, you have to know what to expect from these from the standpoints of things like plot and character development. For me, it's a fun, safe, and nicely illustrated read at bedtime with the kids. These books are quite short, though, so we get through them very quickly.
This book was really exciting! It kind of made me feel an excited feeling inside and made me wonder what was going to happen next! One thing that was odd about the book was when Jean made loud noises when she tried to stab Maldred with her sword because if she had been quiet she could have taken Maldred down easier.
I read this for my book club for my reluctant readers group. It has Adventure that I think even middle school readers will enjoy. It also has some somatic elements that can make it good for developing literacy, even though the reading level is a bit lower than wear middle schoolers should be ideally
Now that Mildred has been caught and taken care of my son is excited to see who/what they must battle with now. I love my reading time with my kids and I’m so happy to have found a series that my oldest son is interested in.
My son started reading this series this year in third grade and he loves it! The story is very exciting. Every night before be we read a chapter and talk about the problems the kids face and how they should solve them. We can’t wait to start the next book.
Another great installment in the Dragon Masters series. This one had my daughter on the edge of her seat! Maldred is up to no good again and it was fun to see some of the friends we’ve made come together to face him.
