A stunning showcase of the world's butterflies and moths, debuting one of the UK's finest natural history illustrators, Ben Rothery.
Wow! A fast read, but an incredible one. Packed full of information about butterflies and moths, their evolution, habitat and various species, I’ve discovered a lot. And then there’s the artwork! I can’t stress enough just how breathtaking the artwork in this book is.
I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars. This is a wonderful book for both children and adults. The illustrations alone make this book a good investment, but the writing is also stellar. The cover is a tactile delight, and the pages feel good to touch. For those who love a book that smells good, this book smells fantastic too.
I have a myopia that makes it hard to view things like butterflies in great detail. This book took my breath away.
In this book we explore the life cycle of the butterfly, moths and the various types that there our out in the world from rare to common and how each one varies too.
With fantastic illustrations of the butterfly types throughout, this book will educate kids and get them looking into nature rather than their screens as you can encourage them to spot the types out in the garden!
I recently bought Ben Rothery's other book 'Hidden Planet', and I absolutely loved it. So I asked for this book for Christmas. And I'm so happy with it. The art is again beautiful and very detailed. I also really like all the information about moths and butterflies. It's really fun and interesting.

This was a beautifully illustrated (the photos were remarkable) and detailed summary about all things related to butterflies. It was captivating and easy to understand. Fascinating too! Recommended for sure!
Informative book with beautiful illustrations. It’s easy to read and well-organized so it doesn’t read like a textbook. I’ve read it several times in the last few weeks. Would make a great gift for butterfly enthusiasts.
I can't picture a time in my future where I won't want this book on my coffee table. Absolutely fascinating/visually stunning if you're as obsessed with these colorful insects as I am!
