Jewish Cookery Book - On Principles of Economy, Adapted for Jewish Housekeepers, With the Addition of many Useful Medicinal Recipes and Other Valuable ... to Housekeeping and Domestic Management
A cookery book properly explained and in accordance with the rules of the Jewish religion. Originally published in 1871, the Jewish Cookery Book was the first Jewish cookbook published in America. The book offers practical, down to earth advice for American-born Jews who did not have the benefit of a good Jewish education.
For an antiquarian cookbook, I had hoped to clean a bit more history or stories behind the dishes. This just seemed to be a family's personal cookbook. Without context and no reference pictures, it was an exceptionally dry read. I was going in hoping to learn more about traditional Jewish dishes.
