Rescue Inc. #5

Say You'll Be Mine

Miguel knew about the unpredictability of life, he saw it every day with Rescue Inc. but he never expected to find his mate suffering at the hands of his own kind. All Miguel could do was wait and give his mate the time and space he needed to heal.
Jacques had been to hell and back as a blood slave and at times had wished for death. Life as a blood slave was a nightmare he thought there would be no escape from. When he was finally set free, it was his mate who released him from his prison.
Jacques was in no condition for a mate. Used and abused, he wanted nothing to do with Miguel or their mating but it was difficult to ignore their connection, the bond developing between them.

Could Jacques overcome the trauma of his past, or would his past come back to haunt him and destroy his future?

What can I say about me? I have two boys who keep me on my toes and a cat who adopted us. She walked in one day and hasn’t left. We might be getting a dog too. Who knows?

I love to read about men in love. Flawed, but strong men, who need some TLC and find their happy ending. I love to write about those same type of men too, sometimes with added kink! I also love to read horrors, thrillers and crime novels.

When I’m not trying to keep my boys in line, or writing about hot sexy men, I like to work on my allotment. I also like to read, to take walks in the countryside, and visit historical places. Recently, we went to Stonehenge and Avebury. It was an amazing experience.

Miguel knew about the unpredictability of life; he saw it every day with Rescue, Inc., but he never expected to find his mate suffering at the hands of his own kind. This was a mixture of an emotional story when we focused on Miguel and Jacques and their relationship/mating and a dramatic one when we focused on the Vampire Council and their involvement. I loved that Miguel gave Jacques the needed space and started by visiting and talking to him before building up to more interaction. I liked that there was discussion about emotions and feelings and finding something useful to do to focus the mind. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

Miguel & Jacques

Okay so I wasn’t expecting the slow burn, the conspiracy or the need to see things through. But he author definitely open up a whole plot line I NEED to know about!

Character breakdown:

Miguel; he as so cute and so patient with Jacques. I love that he was Hispanic and that he had a true fear that not many talk about, until it is too late. I also loved how well he blended with everyone around.

Jacques: I love that the author kept him true to the trauma survivor and gave him real issues to conquer and didn’t “fix”him right away. That he needed time and went through panic attacks, it’s not often you see that in books anymore. I was glad to see him try and get to the bottom of things though.

Favorite quote: “We can wait a little longer.” “No, Miguel. I want this with you. Help make all those bad memories go away. Replace them with you.” He whispered the last words against his lips.

Seriously cannot wait to see how this will go, the little snippets of the “enemy” have me curious as all hel. So I cannot wait for the next books in the series.

Well, it was... I think it was just a weird one. I kind of liked it, but kind of not. I loved how Miguel was devoted to Jacques and how patiently he waited for his mate to come around. The background action with the diaries and low fertility definitely thickens in this book. I'm curious what'll happen/how it will be resolved.

Ranking of the pairings:
1. Jared & Sasha
2. Troy & Ale
3. Jeremy & Donnie
4. Silas & Chester
5. Miguel & Jacques

I am loving this series!

Building a relationship, add action, intrigue, and a steamy connection and you have a terrific story! Both MC's are strong and likable characters that fit right in with the rest of the previous MC's from the past books in this series. It is great to see many of the previous guys interact and support this mating.

Miguel and Jacques have some very special challenges in building their relationship. The abuse that Jacques suffered has impacted him and requires that both men use lots of patience to create their relationship.

I would recommend reading this book as part of the series. It could be read as a stand-alone, but you would miss the world-building and character knowledge that comes from reading each of these books.

Looking forward to book six!

The plot thickens. I liked how this book developed the over arching narrative and plot. I loved the couple but I wished they had more time before wham bam and thank you ma'am. What I really wanted was a movie date turned into heavy kissing then official mating. But alas it wasn't to be. I find that this book is also making me like Jared and Sacha as a couple more than in parts of their own story. Wished there was more time with Troy and ale. I LOVED hunter and hope he has a story soon.

Enjoyed

Miguel's vampire mate was rescued after being sold and used as a blood slave and raped. The vampire council and members are the elite ruling families are formulating plans to take over the world. The MC's were sweet and Miguel was very patient and loving with his damaged mate I look forward to the next book.

Great story!

Vamps and humans. Humans and vamps. Could you imagine if it all could be true? What a world we could be living in. Your neighbors next door are the vamps! Anyway Megs, I loved the story. Can't wait for the next one!

This didn’t quite work for me - I got lost in the non-romance plot as there was a lot of it and I couldn’t fill in the gaps. Now - I haven’t read books 1-3 having jumped in the series at book 4, so I think if you’ve been with the series from the start, it would probably work quite well.

Good read!

Please let your readers know that there's another book in series because this cannot be the end of the series. Love all the books thus far, so don't make us wait too long.

i love this series but i was expecting more from this book. all that vampire conspiracy thrown in the middle of the story took the focus from the couple. I was expecting so much from Jacques and Miguel but I got bored with all the conspiracy and found myself turning pages to pass it until I got back to Jacques and Miguel... I would've loved it if the story was centered in the couple and Jacques struggle to overcome his time as a blood slave. As it is, all his suffering took second place...

Okay

This was okay. For whatever reason in my head I was expecting more about the blood slaves. I understand we have to work towards it but it feels like it's moving in slow motion - hey but I must say that's just me. The trauma Jacques faced and the after effects was done okay. I will read the next installment because I want to know what the vampires have planned and just how far this conspiracy goes.

This was by far my favorite of the books but while it started out strong when it got close to the end it seemed like it was rushed. I also was bummed since I read the first 5 all back to back and now I have to wait for the next book in the series.
