When wishing for a new life, Elam finds out the hard way that he should’ve been more specific.
A year in the Alaskan wilderness was supposed to help nature photographer Elam determine his next move. However, hitting his head and being rescued by one of the hottest men he’s laid eyes on in a while is not getting him off to a great start. Elam is starting over and staying away from sexy guys is part of his new regime. He has a career to nurture in addition to repairing his bruised ego after his rat of an ex cheated on him multiple times.
Nicolai is a rare, blue-eyed white wolf shifter. He’s also an Alpha and the expected heir to his pack in the Alaskan Wolf Alliance. Much to his father’s dismay, Nic has stepped aside as ruler and ceded his spot as future head of the pack to his younger brother. As a gay shifter, he’ll never be able to provide a biological heir and has no intention of claiming a female mate for the sole purpose of giving him a pup. Instead, he’s made a life for himself miles away from the pack in his own section of woods.
However, fate intervenes and puts Nic on a collision course with a human mate. While Nic’s wolf might be on board with the idea, Nic wants no part of it. Why would he want to get tangled up with the stunning Elam only to have his cold heart ripped away once Elam decides it’s time to leave Alaska for good? There’s also the small detail that humans know nothing of the existence of shifters.
When chemistry, love and the truth of what the growly Nic is blindsides Elam, he has some tough decisions to make. Does he let Nic turn him? Never go back to his old home? But the biggest surprise is yet to be revealed when Nic and Elam discover the new life Elam had hoped for is more than just his own—and that there are wolves who are frothing at the mouth to destroy it.
Author’s Note: Rescued by the Alpha is Book One in the Alaskan Wolf Alliance series and features an Alpha and omega who are fated to have lots of steamy, knotty fun and to make beautiful babies together. This suspenseful, action tale does include some peril to Dad and baby. But, there’s a fluffy, feel-good HEA and we all know wolves don’t cheat, so no worries there!
***** Oh my, this is a good one ! Nature photogtrapher, shaggy haired ginger Elam, about 26, has leased a cabin for one year in the Alaskan wilderness. He's stopping to put his chains on, when he slips and wakes up in someone elses cabin. Nicolai, 38, is a rare blue eyed white wolf shifter, and an Alpha in the Alaskan Wolf Alliance. Nicolai knows almost immediately that this is his mate, but Elam is human, so he proceeds slowly. I loved these two characters, so great together, and the story is wonderful. It's a shifter fantasy, of course, and I liked the different twist. So, as Elam heals, Nicolai makes a trip to his sister's and checks with the pack shaman about what happens if he claims his human mate. He talls Elam the facts of the wolf shifter, mating, etc. and Elam reveals he has been feeling the pull already, too. I liked the Pack tension, the rival pack, the effects of the mating and the big surprise. Any Mpreg "shifter" lover will like this tale. It's super sexy, tender and heartwarming, plus dangerous and exciting. ENJOY !
This is the first book from MM Wilde, but this is not the first thing written by this author - this is a pen name for Morticia Knight, and she's diving into the world of mpreg and ABO! YAY!
I thought that this was well written, interesting, and I really enjoyed the characters as they fall for each other and Elam learns about shifters and what he means to Nic. They had great chemistry, I loved the explanation for the changes that Elam has to go through, and I really enjoyed the pack dynamics and world building. I do hope that the world building continues to grow as we learn more about the wolf alliances, I think there could be some really neat things done with that.
Definitely a great start to a new series, can't wait for the second one!
I’m surprised I finished this. It was a very shallowly drawn story with two dimensional characters, bland dialogue, and too simple of a plot for this be anything more than a sketch.
The good? It was short and it had a surprising take on MPREG birthing.
I really enjoyed this book and thought it was by a new author to me. After reading other reviews I found out MM Wilde is Morticia Knight. I’ve always enjoyed the other books by her so I’m not surprised I enjoyed this one.
I especially liked that humans could become shifters in this book. I’ve often wondered why this has never been possible in other shifter stories. I’m going to certainly check out other books in this series.
This is a great start to a series. I loved both Nicolai and Elam, and I enjoyed watching them dance around each other before finally getting it together. The pack politics are interesting, as are most of the secondary characters. I like how it wasn’t common AT ALL for men to get pregnant and how Elam was a special case of sorts. And for the first time EVER the actual birth of the child was explained – as in how it occurs outside of a c-section. Usually that stuff is off-page leaving the reader to ask, “How did the baby come out?”
A great book. I can’t wait to read more in the series and by this author.
For reasons that I don’t recall I had this book on my kindle account and I figured why not? And so I decided to read it.
Oh boy this was a bad decision, the book is not only boring but the writing is bad, both MCs have consistent inner turmoil that we get to read and it’s just weirdly done.
The MC who is not a wolf is very adamant at the beginning of the book that he will only choose for himself and bla bla bla and yet 5 seconds after the wolf dude tells him his magical cum will make him a wolf the dude is practically begging to be dicked down? I don’t know just choose one character trait or whatever.
Also! I did not know this was an mpreg book when I started it so yeah that one was on me, but let me just say I will never or at least until I forget this book, will not look at belly buttons the same way.
I was so giggly 🤭 Fluffy asf. Waiting for them to kiss was juicy tension. I loved it. It was unique, having Elam become a wolf, I've only read vammpys changing their mates.
"As close as they were to the full moon, it wouldn’t take much cum to start the process of changing him. Ever since he’d hit puberty, he’d been warned that unprotected sex along with the claim bite was all it took to turn a human."
I had this on my wish list, eagerly awaiting its release date and I wasn’t left disappointed.
Elam and Nic’s journey was lusty, bumpy and full of surprises. Their bond was captured beautifully and I adored Nic’s attentiveness and protectiveness over his mate.
The events towards the end had my heart racing but the most important moment was captured perfectly.
I really enjoyed this shifter story and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it,
I can’t decide which book I read came first, but this is very similar to that book. I enjoyed this book. Love the protectiveness, and even love the insta love. Their fated mates of course there is insta love. The writing was done well, the smexy was really good, and the side characters were ok. Would have loved more explorations on when E went to visit family on his side
The only memorable thing about this was the belly button birth. Yeah those are two words that don't belong together.
Started quite well: forced proximity snow storm, realisation of fated mates although a human guy, knotting, and surprise omega trope but then the plot became a bit lackluster and me who had been hunting for knotting scenes only got two in total (so a matter of expectations) and then rounded off with a belly button birth...
Safe to say I didn't continue with the series especially after the alpha in the epilogue refers to looking after his newborn daughter as "helping" - Bex out.
Loved Nic and Liam! The story was interesting and the world building and brief snippets of history helped set the tone. Alphas, Omegas, pack dynamics and intrigue - what more can you ask for? Looking forward to book #2
Nic exiled himself to the mountains because he felt he couldn’t become the Alpha his pack needed. He was gay and he knew he’d never take a woman just to produce an heir.
Nic rescues an injured man and from his scent, not only is he Nic’s mate but he’s human!
As Elam recovers and the storm hold them captive, the men grow closer and as an Alpha shifter, Nic claims Elam. Elam becomes a shifter and it’s later discovered that he is an Omega. He’s pregnant!
While the baby drama unfolds, they are also bombarded with another pack of shifters trying to overthrow the family rule.
So much happening! It’s great!
***** POV… third person
Standalone or series… book 1 in series CAN be read as a standalone
1.5 stars So, for some reasons, mpreg books are a guilty pleasure read of mine, at least if they are done right. Unfortunately, they almost never are.
And unfortunately, this book is no exception. I mean, it isn't superbad, it's written well enough, and for the first two or three chapters, I actually thought, hey, this might turn out to be alright. Maybe even three stars, who knows? But then Elam whom I thought to be quite interesting at first and not the typical omega blablabla character - seeing as he isn't afraid to get dirty (not a euphemism!) and enjoys spending time in remote and dangerous areas to photograph rare wildlife - , so this Elam then turned into a FEMALE. And I'm not talking about a regular female - I'm quite fond of them, I'm one too. No, I mean a BOOK FEMALE. A TROPY FEMALE. Or should I say, a TROPHY FEMALE? Cause that would kinda work, too.
So, at his point, you could righteously, say: "Well, Kat, it's mpreg, what do you expect?" and skip the following rant.
Rant: Suddenly, this independent guy is not only letting someone else tell him when he can help (I'm sorry, he gets scolded for helping when he wants to? No matter how pregnant you are, YOU decide what you want to do, and nobody (maybe aside from your doctor) can tell you otherwise. That's not protective, it's disconcerting. What's next, should Elam ask Nic if he's allowed to go pee by himself?), he stops working entirely, and his whole life seems to be consumed of being a mate and being pregnant. What kind of message does that want to convey? If you find your partner, and you're the less muscly one, it's time to give up the life you have fought and educated yourself for, your personality, and all your personal goals and amibitions, no matter what gender you might have? Thanks, I thought, "equality" would turn out to mean something different. Also, if Nic is still afraid to deal with his daughter after three months, he hasn't done it enough. My partner learned taking care of our kids at exactly the same time I did, and no, I wasn't "naturally better" at changing diapers or calming our kids down or holding them or taking care of them. But how could childcare be divided any differently - Nic is The alpha, and Elam is The omega, after all. Urgh. That's such sexist bullshit. And in a mm pairing no less.
Okay, what else? "Well, Kat, it's mpreg, what do you expect?" Yeah, yeah, I get it. Damn.
Cheated beau drawn to the Alaskan wilderness and a fated rescue from the concussive storm Shifter/human fated mate fluffy pnr w/mpreg
This story should be right up my ally - fluffy mpreg with a fated human mate is one of my favorite tropes. In general, I prefer relationships with less conflict and angst than typically found even in fluffy romances, but the extremely easy acceptance of the human and the lack of drama in the back plot made this even less compelling. This just leaves the smutty, knotty Alpha/omega mating, which were later in the story but repeated a bit, so were o.k. but didn't blow me away, either.
In short, probably best read for the sizzle with some fluff, a bit less than satisfying for me but still registering as a very light, diverting mind-candy escapist read.
2.75 stars - rounded up for the Alaskan setting and the human mate
A good short mm werewolf book. Good storytelling, world-building, time-frame, plot, characters, setting, descriptions, format and imagination. Easy to read. The Mpreg part of the book is a good portion of the story. It contains an imaginative way to for a male to give birth.
MM Wilde is a pen name for Morticia Knight, and I LOVE Ms Knight's work. So when I came across this one, I had to buy it and see what the difference was.
There is a HUGE amount of difference it this book and some of Ms Knight's other work and I do not mean that negatively.
Elam manages to whack his head and pass out in a storm. Nic finds him and Nic's wolf is all for the younger man to be in Nic's space. Nic the man, at first, not so much. But Fate has a different idea for Nic and Elam, bringing some of the Old World tales back to life.
I LOVED this! I have a soft spot for m-preg books, and I loved that this one delivered on every level.
Nic, the man, wants no part of a human mate, but Nic, the wolf is all for the idea. Elam is supposed to be off men, but Nic pushes all the buttons he never knew he had. When Nic reveals his true form, and explains just what he is to Nic, Elam is all for it. When they realises just what the mating meant, I loved that they are BOTH totally surprised by it! The Healer for the pack is too. And I love being surprised as much as they were!
It's not overly explicit for a shifter male/male book, but I really enjoyed that it wasn't. Both men have a voice, so we get all of Nic's reluctance to have a human mate, with all of Elam's williness, once they decide to. All of Elam acceptance of Nic and his pack. Of what the mating really meant, and each man's reaction to the news of their impending arrival. And we get all of Nic and Elam's worry when things start to unravel with a rival pack.
I bought this yesterday, went to bed to read a few pages, 2 hours later, I'm done. Sign of a great book, that, to keep me fully engaged and engrossed til you run out of book and didn't realise you were that close to the end.
Rescued by the Alpha took me by surprise with it's fresh take on shifters and male-pregnancy.
This is the story of Nicolai Petrov, a shifter who's exiled himself to a life of solitude in the Alaskan wilderness and Elam Goldberg, a human who's escaped to the same place for a self imposed sabbatical and distance from the city, his overbearing friends and a horrible ex.
Sequestered to Nic's cabin for the duration of a storm, these two get to explore the insta-attraction and fated mate bond. The beginning focuses on Nic and Elam without the interference of secondary characters or external factors. This really helped cement my enjoyment of the story. They have chemistry and the UST is palpable.
The sexy scenes are done really well, frenzied, passionate, consuming, tender and loving.
I really enjoyed the fresh take on male-pregnancy and mating. I especially liked the link to Russian ancestors, shifter history and prophecies.
The story took a wrong turn for me when pack politics and secondary characters began to make themselves known. It was just too much coming into play without enough development. It felt more like filler than a believable progression of the story. I really wished they had remained in that cabin, just the two of them and the writer spent more time around their personal story.
Regardless, I did enjoy this story. When I finished I felt all gooey on the inside from the HEA. Definitely recommend it for those who enjoy the omegaverse, male pregnancy theme and shifter stories. ~3.75 Stars~
WOW! What a rush. You are going to love this book. I did not want to put it down. M.M.Wilde has created a unique and wondrous world. Her take on how a wolf shifter "makes" a new shifter is fantastic! So is the introduction of mpreg into a society that has relegated it to the stuff of legend. Even how men give birth is new, to me at least. This book has it all. Fated mates, unexpected pregnancy, drama, intrigue, betrayal, kidnapping, lots of sex, and of course HEA. Elam was looking to get away from his life, and his cheating ex. He didn't expect to be rescued by his fated mate, Nic. Learning he's fallen in love with a wolf shifter is a shock, but so is Nic's offer to turn him. Add Elam's pregnancy to the mix, and things really get going. Nic never thought he'd find his fated mate, much less a human one. But he can't and won't fight fate. When a threat comes to attack his pack, he must become the Alpha he was meant to be, with Elam by his side. You will love this book! There is graphic violence. But these are wolf shifters after all. The violence is necessary, but not gratuitous. There is language, and steamy, mm sex. This book is therefore intended for mature, 18+ readers only.
I enjoy reading all kinds of romance. M/M romance can often be even more involving than M/F romance, because of the "forbidden love" aspect, when society or family disapproves. This book was kind of unusual, mostly because of the male pregnancy. That's not a spoiler, because it's listed on the book page. I found it difficult to wrap my mind around the whole concept, because I've had 4 children. The author kept the story moving, but still, I can more easily believe in werewolves, than a male being able to become pregnant, carry to term and deliver, then nurse a baby. Why not just write a romance involving F/M?
That being said, the characters were well-defined and the story was interesting.
The only real complaint was that the book isn't formatted well. There are gaps in-between words in a sentence, and gaps in the middle of paragraphs. This made it difficult to read--to the point that only being a determined reader kept me reading. I don't think this was the choice of the author--but it was very distracting.
M.M. Wilde (aka Morticia Knight) has written a delightful story, Rescued by the Alpha. A nature photographer (Elam) who was recently cheated on by his longtime boyfriend, has decided to move to Alaska for a year to get away and adjust to/enjoy being single. He serendipitously meets Nic,a wolf shifter who discovers that somehow Elam, who is a human, is his fated mate. This fun story starts at this point and we follow our two protagonists as they adjust to their relationship and together go through one adventure after another with a surprise or two along the way.
Ms. Wilde has a delightful sense of humor which is evident through the entire book. It’s a nice change of pace to read a shifter story that does not deal with heartache and unsettling drama. I’m looking forward to reading the remainder of the stories in this series.
As I read the description of this book, I thought it would entertaining. So I purchased it. It is a good book. Some of it is a little over the top, but it is a good book. Elam decides to escape in the wilderness of Alaska to heal from his breakup with his cheating ex. He promised to stay away from men, but fate has other plans. He is out in a storm and injures himself. Nicolai (Nic) a white wolf shifter happens to be out and smells Elam. Of course he rescues him. Nic does not recognize the significance of Elam’s scent. But eventually he does and he worries what will happen because Nic is an alpha who is supposed provide an heir. He wonders if his pack will accept Elam. Fates steps in again to deal with that particular issue. But others are not so happy for the two men and try to do them harm.
When old legends & prophecy come true, the wild ride is just beginning
Betrayed by his Ex, all Elam wants is to be alone. Nic has been alone by choice for a long time. When Nic's wolf scents his fated mate, and Elam reacts in kind, oh the sparks that fly! Fall in love along with them. Elam will face the choice not only to be turned, but to open his heart to Nic's love. I loved that they will face betrayal, rival packs deceit, unexpected pregnancy together. Is there sex? Yeah a lot of it. This is an 18+ book. I fell in love with the richness of the characters, the story, and the setting. From the initial rescue, to the final rescue, you will be wrapped up in the miracle that is HEA.
Overall the story was good! A good dose of plot and a great big dose of sexy times! I enjoyed the book a lot. The only read I didnt give it 5 stars would be as follows... 1. It was odd reading an omega/alpha book that referred to themselves as "gay". I didnt understand the reason for that right away but considering the mpreg in this story was "unknown" I guess I understood. 2... from the navel?? Ok.... odd. But hey! Who am I to judge? (Besides a fellow reader). 3. The omega's heat should have been touched on more. A whole slew of sexiness could have came from that alone! But again, I guess since it was an unknown I'd have to understand. But all in all, I'm not disappointed in the read. But I wont be read the rest in the series.
I love instalove stories but this both was beyond what I’d expected. Nic and Elam’s story began with an accident with neither man understanding that fate had jumped in an started what would turn into a beautiful love story neither of them had expected to happen for them. I cannot wait to see who’s story is next but if it’s anything like this one I’ll be on to book 3 before I know it. Nic and Elam’s story is about two people believing that they would never find love again or ever. But the chemistry between them is undeniably strong and it’s the beginning of a pack finding their way amongst betrayals, loss of a brother and their way of life in Alaska; the final frontier. Don’t waste any time, pick this story up immediately!!!
I enjoyed this book and the world building. I was a little surprised on this books take of Omega pregnancy and births, both new and interesting, if not excessively far fetched. However it is a book about shifters and mpreg lol. The only reason this book didn't get 5 stars is because the ending was so rushed. There was great build up and suspense, great plot and a bad guy to fight against, but then in only a handful of pages it was over. I felt a little cheated out of the conflict ending in 3 pages and then the end of the book in just about 3 more pages. Even with that said this book was good. I enjoyed the characters and the story.
I am only giving it 3 stars because the story does a lot of time skipping and your often a little off after each jump because there is no indication there has been one tell a few sentences in. The story is a little rushed, you never meet his parents even through he talks about them once meeting his daughter. the end also feels rushed to me and left me feeling like there needed to be something more. Most likely will not continue with this set of books. But if the writers writing style is something you're not worried about, or you looking for a quick read with minimum backstory and minimum world building this is your series. The story has great potential.
