I'm actually a BPsych Honours graduate, so I'm not fresh out of school - but in all my education there was very little focus on the meaning and significance of the visual world (as compared with the mathematical, scientific and literate one) when I bought this book. Coming from that, I really appreciate the efforts this book goes to to make clear all the pointers about what is important in the process of learning how to represent things visually - with an added intent of how to apply this to accurate architectural modelling.
It takes you through the very basics, even how to depict straight lines and corners, so you can recognise and apply accuracy in your strokes. Or to practise sketching the human form, so you learn how to be accurate with proportion. I admire that the book teaches you the importance of drawing itself, before it can be applied to architecture. The emphasis on architecture seems to be rigour with accuracy, and the book really gives you enough insights to go and practise 'til perfect.
It goes on to nut the architecture out of general drawing, with good general lessons, and clear attention to detail within those. Descriptions of how to do perspective drawings, and build 3D models are also included, as well as how to pull together a portfolio and tips on starting a career. It's fantastically thorough.
The book is beautiful to hold, clear to flip through and read, with a softly coloured, minimal, attractive and self-explanatory layout. Great for starting out with understanding the practical side of drawing, and its application to architecture.
