James Hunt's passion for writing began at an early age. While his journal of yesteryear may never be the work of great fiction, he's been working hard every day since then to bring pages to life. James has well over a decade of writing under his belt, but his professional career in literature didn't take off until 2014.
James currently lives in Orlando, FL and when he's not pounding away at the keyboard you can find him at the theater or somewhere outside enjoying the beautiful Florida weather.
My review is mixed. The books are great reading, and very engrossing. Good character development. But the story lines are a little convoluted, and some of the content needs to be proofread a little better (aside from grammar, there's on part where the Lincoln Tunnel is put on the west side of Manhatten...and other sections that leave a lot of credibility to question, like the delivery of the chips in the NW to Seattle, and the recovery of them by a civilian??). The reading was great, but the stories are all about the effects of an EMP, I was hoping for a little more content about what might be going on behind the scenes, as the govt and the utility companies struggle to recover. That would be just as interesting, and exciting.
Yet another clueless attempt at an "end of the world" story.
Within the first chapter, disaster strikes. Literally within seconds of the EMP, (that no one knows about) everything has erupted into chaos, everyone has panicked and is running around madly, fighting, looting etc. Within minutes citizens are robbing, murdering, kidnapping, raping anyone who passes by.
And the author clearly has no clue, and gas done no research about guns or even the basic functions and designs.
If you are clueless too, you'll likely find this to be "awesome".
If you have even basic knowledge of firearms, human tendencies in response to disaster and tragedy etc, then you'll very likely find this to be unreadable.
This isn't the type of book that I usually read, however, I am so very glad that I did! The storyline kept me reading continuously, late into the night, until my eyes were so sore that I could no longer read. There is no reason that this book can become reality but I guess anything is possible in this day and age. It was compelling with the character's seemingly so real, just as one would assume in their unique situations. The author asks intermittently (at the end of each book) to give a review but I didn't wish to stop reading long enough to write one. I shall keep my eyes out looking for another book by James Hunt!
Scary because of the possibilities it could happen.
I haven’t read too many stories like this EMP thriller that is so close to what is happening around the world. This set of stories show just how evil and untamed the USA or any other place in the world could become if an EMP really happened. May we be lucky enough to find hero’s among the ordinary people we meet like the characters who come alive in these books. May we also be like those hero’s instead of the evil embodied in the foreign and native born terrorist.
I liked The Last Orchard much better than the second story ...Surviving the Collapse. I liked (Orchard) because there was a bit of romance between the two main characters which was some relief from the more depressing parts of the story. Surviving had too many annoying people in it to make it enjoyable reading. I would read other books by this author.
I loved these books. Probably the best survival novels I've read. Especially the second novel. The author captures quite a few elements that preppers tend to overlook, or just not think of, should they ever face a situation such as those depicted in this story. Highly recommend if you're a fan of the apocalyptic/survival genre.
The story follows a terrorist attack on the US that stops all cars, planes and every day devices. Suddenly people are on their own for a long time. The stress and danger lead some folks to rebuild communities and others whose goal is to take what is not theirs.
But, it could have used an editor for minor pronoun discrepencies and repetitiveness such as how parents died reminding the hero of his duty. The scenarios of lawlessness after an EP blast were frightening but the resilience of the survivors was hopeful. I read nonstop.
Without power, without communication and without order--people become more of who they are. The bad become worse and the good surpass themselves in transforming into people who help others survive. Characters are believable. There is tension in all the characters--even the good people. You won't want to stop reading this series of stories.
What an amazing comeback! If you love your Post Apocalyptic stories grab these! The !son characters will have you in disbelief continuing their fight against all odds. With the EMP, were terrorists, criminals and professional s all working to hang on to their piece of the new world.
Fantastic books! Starting with Charlie and his orchard. EMP disruption changed everyone. Katie, a pilot, found realised her love for flying, but managed to find a plane that did not have the computer components as it was too old. Managed to rescue her son. However, many problems that her, including her daughter becoming very ill.
After the second book, chapter 14, I stopped reading because it started reminding me of a “Hollywood Style” script. I always stop reading when things don’t make sense or when it sounds like Hollywood. Real life possibilities don’t follow the Hollywood play book.
This is a very good read. The characters are well fleshed out. The plot is intriguing. People die, so it's believable. I read it straight through. Couldn't put it down. Bravo.
This was a terrific series of stories! The characters were so interesting and the stories were so good i read the whole group in one sitting! I would recommend highly!
Thoroughly enjoyed this series, or boxed set. Unique plot, strong characters, hated for it to end. I'm following this great author to not miss any past or future exciting books. Well done, Mr. Hunt!
I thought that this was very well written and really gets you thinking!!!I would have somehow combined the different stories as one continuous story. other than that I thought it was very well done!!! Didn't want to put it down!!!!
This is a good exploration of an EMP attack on our nation. Really makes you think about things. Lots of suspense and edge of the seat reading. Leaves you hanging, but thoughtful. Scary! Could I survive?
I am going to keep my review short- but this was a really good book. I connected with Charlie and Liz and moved onto Kate and the characters kept building- not settling on just one story line through the series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
From west to east two very different yet very much the same stories that were excellent reading and very detailed. If you are a prepper you have got to read the series.
Really enjoyed first book second was a bit too violent. Could have done without Dennis and his gang of inmates. Interesting take on how humans would behave in the event of such a disaster
I love the dynamics of this book. It kept my attention from the start. The Dennis character was terrifying. I rooted for Kate like she was my family. The life-altering end was unfortunate but that is the way life is sometime.
Some of the details stretch the imagination; I would like to see some dig a hole in frozen ground. The action is non stop and some good ideas about the trek out of the city.
This series was so different from the James Hunt thrillers, this is more sci-fi/ apocalyptic. It's very well written and will draw you in to the characters and atmosphere of the world created. I highly recommend but must warn you it does have some strong language in it.
Wow! I couldn’t stop reading from the start of the first book.
I totally enjoyed this series. Just when I thought it would turn ugly and evil, like other stories, there’s a twist. Not always the happy ending but not always the worst either. Great read!
Good story, but the editing left a lot to be desired. Most jumbled words were easily figured out, but some places I had no idea what was being said. However, it was a good read.
This apocalypse is, of course, the stories of survivors of an EMP event. Some very good world building with believable characters you’ll grow to like. Hold on to your hat because the action starts early on and keeps right on rolling along.
