This series was recognized by the North Street Book Awards. Doctor Leonard Wise, parapsychologist, university professor and civilian consultant for the Mountainview police must face his most frightening challenge: Thanksgiving with his estranged family. At the same time, Detective Bill McGee needs Len's help on a baffling case. The evidence points to a team of thieves that had broken up years earlier. Yet it seems they have reunited to reinstate a campaign of specific burglaries that leave little forensic evidence. The most troubling thing is that the man who led the group died six years earlier. This takes Len into the strange world of Santeria and deep into the cult of Santa Muerte: Saint Death. There he must face the power of an evil Palero, who has abilities that may reach beyond death itself.
Arjay Lewis: actor, magician, and multi-award-winning author. I have spent my life as an entertainer, amusing people as a street-performer in the 1970s; a Broadway and casino artist in the 1980’s; a party performer in the 1990s and 2000s; a cruise ship performer in the 2010s. Stories have always been in my mind, and I have been writing since the 1990s. My reason to write is simple: to entertain. I write the type of books that I like to read: murder mysteries, strange tales of unnatural gifts, odd happenings and horror. Reunion in the Mind is a fantastic third book in this series written by Arjay Lewis. This author had me hooked with book 1 and I have since bought books 2 through 4, and yes I will be reading book 4 soon.
I really enjoy that each of these books is really a stand alone book with a full conclusion at the end. The only thing that makes it a series is that it follows the main character in how he solves different major cases. The vastly different cases that the author comes up with are rather intriguing and are the reason why I continue purchasing books from this author when there are so many free books out there! He pays close detail in developing the plot with very well hidden twist in them that he slowly unravels towards the end. I pride myself that I am good in guessing the "whose who" but this author seems to be always a couple of steps ahead of me which I absolutely love!
The pace of the books is perfect and it never feels like the story is dragging out nor do I ever feel like I am being rushed through the story! There is a lot of character development and you can literally see how Len is developing, growing more with his gift but also in his personal life, which makes this such a well rounded book.
I for one really enjoyed this book and this series as a whole. If you like mysteries with the paranormal thrown in, look no further.
The third book in the Doctor Wise series kicks off with an otherworldly murder, which might be expected by now. But there is a different feel to this novel. Perhaps by now Mr Lewis is feeling he knows his protagonist better, for we get to find out a lot more about him and his backstory. We are also introduced to his family for the first time and can see why Len Wise hasn’t been in a hurry to play the prodigal son, what with his disapproving father and effortlessly successful, annoyingly charming twin brother.
On top of all this – and a burgeoning new romantic relationship – Len is called to help the local police on the aforementioned murder, along with a string of high-profile robberies of what can only be called cursed items. His psychic powers misfiring, Len realises he needs some help. But is he looking in the right places?
Another assured entry in the series, blending the supernatural with well-paced action and the believable lives of relatable characters, I enjoyed it a lot!
Brilliant as ever. Doctor Leonard Wise, parapsychologist, university professor and civilian consultant for the Mountainview police in cases of an unusual nature. Leonard's friend Detective Bill McGee needs Len’s help on a baffling case, of a murder and a spate of specific burglaries that leave little forensic evidence. It seems that the person masterminding these burglaries was killed six years earlier. Len is cursed and this takes him into the world of Santeria and into the cult of Santa Muerte the Saint of Death. There he must face the power of an evil Palero, who has abilities that may reach beyond death itself. Cracking read can't wait for the next installment.
This was another entertaining read. This is the sixth book I have read by this author and all have been entertaining. If you read the books in order you understand more of the background but they can be read as standalone stories. Dr. Wise has to deal with a dead guy killing people and stealing cursed objects. Naturally Dr. Wise manages to get cursed too so he has to figure out why his psychic abilities are acting up and whether a group of burglaries are headed by an individual that was killed several years ago. A fast fun read.
I think in some ways, I liked this one best, and also least. The whole "cult" thing just...
I do like how the author dealt with the MC's mother's racism. It wasn't allowed to go unchecked. There was considerable push-back from the MC's family members. Had it gone a different direction, I'd have DNF'd.
I love this series! I usually just read free books or books I get through Kindle Unlimited. I got the first two books of the series free but I actually paid for this one. That is a very big compliment from me. Keep them coming R. J. Lewis.
This series is really good. As Len & Bill begin investigating a rash of robberies, Len begins having disturbing dreams about the case. These book is full of action with some great twists and turns, that kept me unable to put it down.
These series of books, leave the reader wanting more books!! Doctor Wise can't seem to not find problems, that sooner or later drag him into deep trouble!!
