Definition boxes, information sidebars, fun facts, maps, inspiring quotes, and other nonfiction text features add depth, and a handy reference section at the back makes this series perfect for school reports and projects. In addition to his work as a professional editor, James Buckley, Jr., is also the author of many books on American sports that are geared toward young fans and budding athletes.
Buckley, who has founded a company called Shoreline Publishing Group to produce books for reluctant readers, maintains that sports are far more than simple hobbies or ways to burn off excess energy.
Short educational book for students about this Founding Father and proponent of a strong National Bank. A nice summary of his principles and life. Without his forward thinking, what would our country look like today?
We picked this up from the library for our pre-teen daughter, but I ended up reading it. It was the perfect length for what I wanted to know about Hamilton. It was concise and had good information. It mentioned a lot of the things that came up in the musical which I appreciated because that's what sparked my interest in the first place. I enjoyed the paintings it included also.
For grades 3-5. Excellent book which covers a great deal of Hamilton's life - personal, professional, and political. Inserts bits of trivia as well as definitions of words that students might not be familiar with. I highly recommend it.
DK Life Stories: Alexander Hamilton by Jim Buckley. There was some interesting information presented in this book; although a few historical points were really simplified/glossed over. Overall, a good middle grade biography. I gave this 4 stars.
I enjoyed the portrayal of Alexander Hamilton with all his fortes and flaws. I think the details included were just right for a middle grade audience. There are rich historical and ethical subjects for young readers to sink their teeth into and grapple with. I’m looking forward to using this text in my fifth grade government unit.
I am impressed with this, the first book I have read in this DK series. I love The Who Is... Who Was series. I now have high hopes for this one. I appreciate that the ebook version of the book was modestly priced!
Alexander Hamilton lead a life full of accomplishments, some well-known to some that are lost from the general knowledge of him. Did you know he helped with, what would later become, the US Coast Guard? He is most famous for (right now) being the subject of the Lin-Manuel musical. Overall, a nice book to help put a person behind this historical figure.
