Love Online

Rate this book
From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy standalone novel.

We met in the least likely of places. It started out innocently enough. I was “ScreenGod” and she was “Montana,” but of course, those weren’t our actual names, just the virtual cloaks we hid behind.

Logging in at night and talking to her was my escape—my sanctuary.

Her real name was Eden, I’d soon come to find out.

From the first time we connected online, I found myself transfixed.

She was an addiction.

At first, we knew nothing about each other’s real identities…and she was adamant that we keep things that way. Anonymity had no effect on our unstoppable chemistry, though. If anything, it allowed us to open up even more in ways we may not have otherwise.

Eden was funny, intelligent, gorgeous—everything I’d ever wanted in a woman.

But I couldn’t really have her.

I had accepted things would have to stay the way they were—until the day I found a clue that led me straight to her.

So I took a chance.

And that was when our love story really began.

Whoops, the blurb is misleading! It hides the most important information and lets you think this is some sweet & cute romance!

Keep reading; I'll tell you what it is about...

***********************************************

Penelope Ward is an interesting writer for me; she sometimes writes books that I adore and then she goes and writes things that frustrate the hell out of me.

This one was sadly a huge disappointment for me because of what the heroine does to earn money. In my review, I will talk about her job, give you quotations related to her job and how she does it etc and if you feel like they will be spoilers for you, then, proceed with caution. For me, they are not spoilers but warnings for people who would find it repulsive instead of hot or sexy.

***********************************************

Eden (Montana) is a cam-girl who has millions of followers all around the world.

She talks to men online, and does some sexual stuff for them depending on how much they pay.

Everything on this site was tip-based. Users were paying Montana tokens to request different acts.

There was a scrolling menu at the bottom of the screen that summarized the pricing:

Fifty tokens and she sang a song.
One hundred and she took her top off.
Two hundred and she removed her panties.
Three hundred and she masturbated on camera.

Ok, I so was not ready for that! It kind of repulsed me. Maybe I am being judgmental here because she desperately needs money for a good cause but I think she could have found other ways to earn it rather than do what she did.

All along the novel, I couldn’t shake off that nauseating feeling about her whoring herself out online and their sweet romance didn’t affect me a bit because of that. Exclude her job out of that story, I would have thought this was one low-angst sweet romance. However, our heroine does what she does UNTIL THE END OF THE BOOK! So, no, I can't even see/feel the romance here.

The hero, Ryder, feels jealous of her but he is also curious and he watches her online as much as he can while she is interacting with other men. Below is an example of that:

The token sounds went crazy all of a sudden. The viewers had collectively thrown in enough for her to take her top off.

I swallowed in anticipation, knowing it didn’t normally take very long for her to give them what they wanted. Sure enough, Eden placed her hands on the bottom of her shirt and lifted the material up over her head. She unclasped her bra from the back and let her voluptuous breasts spring free. Fuck. I missed her so badly. I hated this. I hated this so goddamn much.

Morbid curiosity led my eyes to the comments section.

AdamAnton555: You have the most beautiful tits I have ever seen.

LouisGator1: I wish I could suck on them.

ElliotMichael33: I’d love to slide my dick in between those right now and come all over your creamy skin.

Yeap, he watches this and reads about the comments these men make and he doesn’t ask her to quit doing this. I just cannot wrap my mind around it.

And one day, he is with her in her home and asks her if she is going to work tonight. She says yes and he wants to watch her live/not online this time while she is doing her “job”.

And at some point, someone pays enough money for a private chat and he watches his girlfriend talking to a man privately on web-cam:

They went back and forth talking for a while, and it was actually boring me a little. I was tuning out until I heard him say, “I would love to look at your ass tonight.”

That definitely got my attention. It felt like all the blood in my body suddenly rushed to my face. Fuck. I was wrong. I really couldn’t handle this. Eden stared straight at me as she slowly slid her panties down her legs. Then she got on all fours and stuck her ass in the air. I’d never seen it from this angle.

Since I couldn’t see the man on the screen, I tried to forget he was there for a moment as I fixated on her. Then came his voice again. “Make yourself come while I jerk off to your ass. ”

My body stiffened. It took everything in me not to explode from the combination of jealousy and arousal. This was a test of endurance—one I wasn’t sure I was going to pass. She’d told me to remember she was thinking of me, but it was damn hard.

At one point, he cannot take it any longer and decides to stake his claim.

(Ha ha, let me stop and LMAO for a while here)

description

OK, here is what he does to stake his claim: He gives her an oral in front of the camera for the man to watch. Yeap, that's what he does. Nope, I am not kidding! What a nice way of staking your claim for the woman you have fallen for, don't you agree?

Oh God, kill me now! Who loves this book and why? And how?

description

And there is this online confession of his love for her while she is doing her show:

“I love you so much. So fucking much, baby. You have no idea.”

And after his confession of love, this is what happens😊

I immediately purchased a thousand coins and dumped them into the pot to request a private chat. Eden’s hands were shaking as she covered her mouth. Her voice trembled.

“I’ll be right back, everyone.”

See what is happening here? She is gonna go back to her viewers after the guy whom she loves tells her he loves her for the first time!!!

Nope nope nope. This book wasn’t for me. Our hero, Ryder accepts what she does as a normal job and only at the very end of the book, (10-15 pages before the end), he tells her he doesn’t want to share her with other men anymore.

Huh, he is a bit slow or what?

***********************************************

Safety:

He is celibate after they start their private chats online. Eden goes on doing sexual things like masturbating to cameras and tells Ryder it is her body’s physical reaction, not “real” arousal or enjoyment. How big a relief is that, right?

”As much as it might seem like I’m loose with sex because of what I do for a living, when it comes to letting someone inside—pun intended—it’s not easy for me. I would never be able to do this if those men were actually touching me.”
“That’s the only consolation for me,” he said. “That they can’t touch you.”

***********************************************

Recommendation:

If you are OK with Eden’s job, then it is a 3-star sweet romance that is sometimes slow and boring. However, if you are disturbed by it as much as I did, then, I wouldn’t recommend the book to you, it is not worth your time; I wasted mine, don’t waste yours if you feel like me.

*****FOUR STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

My life had been dark for a couple of years, and connecting with Ryder had given me something to look forward to each day, something just for me and no one else. He was truly my guilty pleasure.

I have to admit that I didn’t read the blurb when I signed up to review Love Online. Penelope Ward is just one of many authors that I have placed on my automatic must-read list. I assumed that the couple in this story was going to meet via an online dating service. I was completely wrong. I can’t say that I’ve ever read a story in which the romance started off in this most unconventional way. It isn’t my idea of the perfect romance, but somehow the author made it work.

It starts off in the Hero, Ryder McNamara’s point of view. I didn’t fall in love with him right away. He came across as arrogant and one dimensional to me. It wasn’t until Eden and Ollie’s appearance in the story that I began to witness the layers of Ryder’s character. At that point, I was able to connect with the plot and found the book hard to put down.

I can only imagine how challenging it must be for an author to come up with original storylines and I really think that Penelope Ward nailed it with this one.

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 4
Heroine: 4
Plot: 4
Angst: 3
Steam: 4
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 4

Ryder McNamara appears to have it all. The perfect life. He has a huge mansion, tons of money, and is drop dead gorgeous. For some reason none of these things leave him feeling fulfilled. Lately his life feels empty and his existence meaningless. Then he meets a woman online and everything changes. She's just the distraction he needs. Their chemistry is insane, and a connection forms. In the virtual world they are able to open up and be themselves. Logging in is anonymous and becomes his escape and sanctuary. She is the highlight of his day. Soon he's quickly addicted to this woman, but doesn't know her real identity. She was everything he wanted but he couldn't have her. Or could he?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

-I'd never wanted a man like I wanted him.

-He was truly as beautiful on the outside as I believed him to be on the inside. He was almost too beautiful, if there were such a thing.

-"You're the only man in the world I want to want me."

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I believe this story is best enjoyed going in blind, which is why my review is mostly no more than what the blurb gives away. This book left me with all the feels. It's extremely cute and funny. Full of sexy banter and mystery. What I didn't see coming was how much it would make me feel. The emotional aspect of this book is just beautiful. This man is super swoony and will completely steal your heart.

-Life takes you in unexpected directions. There's good, and there's bad to that. Sometimes on a detour, you find what you need in the least likely of places.

This was absolute BS. I realized something. I have a subconscious pet-peeve that came out of the closet today. And I'd like to thank this book for assisting my subconscious in doing that.

Here goes. WHY DOES THE HEROINE ALWAYS HAVE TO BE THIS SUFFERER IN SILENCE, SELFLESS, HOARDED WITH THE PROBLEMS OF THE UNIVERSE WITH AN ABUSIVE OR DEPENDENT FAMILY MEMBER IN TOW TO MAKE HER LOVABLE?
Are normal women, with your average day to day problems, who are not wealthy or poor, who have not been sexually abused but sometimes hate their family just because of your day to say scuffles underserving of finding someone? Is the idea of an average girl so difficult to comprehend? Does every female lead have to have Mother Theresa's heart inside Adriana Lima's body?
I mean what the fuck is going on here?
I have no issues with her being a pornstar. But please...this female was unbelievable. And the guy? ROFL. He makes me believe pigs can fly.
The writing is bad. I think the author learnt a new word - Invigorating. You'll find it in every chapter. Mostly in places where the word doesn't fit.
I don't usually spew hate on authors having not written a book myself. I have no right. But when it is this bad, and it gets 4 stars. I can't help but question the reviews.
When the content, the characters and the writing is bad. What made you give 4+ stars?
I know the concept & the blurb were great, that's the reason I read it in the first place. But once you start reading this ... you can clearly see how many things in this book are...simply put...stupid..so how? I know, to each their own etc...but this is BS.

Ryder and Montana meet online. You might already know that if you've read the blurb - or only even the title of the book! ☺

Ryder has a beautiful life. He's rich and hot. He can/could get any girl he wants.

description

But he's not really happy.
It's all the same, every day.
He feels lonely.

And Montana. We don't yet know much about her. It's all a bit mysterious. We do get her POV too, but mostly Ryder's at the beginning.

Ryder wants more than just the girl behind the computer-camera. He wants to know where she lives. Montana doesn't want that.
Well, she wants him too. But she just can't.

And that's where I stop talking about the story!!!! ☺ Anything more would spoil too much!

description

I really enjoyed reading this book!

I immediately loved Ryder. He's this poor little rich boy. But he's also so sweet and kind and sexy. But he's also lonely, vulnerable and broken and we feel sad for him. But only a little!☺

We want him to end up happily ever after with Montana - but we have no idea what her life is like - or where she even lives! It won't be easy for us - or for Ryder - to get that happy end.

But we really enjoy witnessing him fighting for it!

This was a really sexy book. Very adorable and moving. A little mysterious and sad. But also funny and so sweet and adorable.

Great Romance!

But for me ... Ryder was a tiny little bit too un-alpha-romance-hero-ish. He's a bit soft. Maybe it's because we don't see him do much sexy, manly stuff in the beginning. He's only sitting in front of his computer talking about feelings and whatnot. I still really adored him. He's really sweet and kind and ... I just wish he would've been written a bit manlier! He's perfect as a boyfriend probably. Talking about feelings and helping and listening and doing - every girl's dream, right? But we need a little bit bad boy. He was kinda written as a Bad Boy in the beginning, with his parties and stuff - but we never really saw him acting it out. BUT - don't worry - you'll love him. He's an amazing guy! ☺

The story itself was also a bit like Ryder - there is no real drama, no real excitement. I hate unnecessary drama, so that was ok, but it was a bit too excitement-free.
But it was still a cute little love story!

LOVE ONLINE was a really sexy and adorable and moving love story! Run to your nearest amazon for your own Ryder - this one is MINE!!!
...and I mean the Ryder in the book and Eddy on the cover!!!

The H meeting the h on an online PORN site is something I would never enjoy reading. But still out of curiosity and because of the authors previous works I decided to go for this.
But I was disappointed.
THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR ME.
The h video chatting with random strangers and flashing them boobs or masturbating online and all the live cam thing was so not my scenario..

Normally I would have enjoyed reading this book if they hadn’t met on the porn site.

Ryder McNamara had a charmed life. But behind his glitzy lifestyle, he was a jaded man. One lonely night, he stumbled upon a woman who managed to make him feel alive again.

Eden had been living a double life behind her onscreen persona. Contented with the path she took, she never thought she could find something real. But as her heart started to latch on to the man behind the screen she had to decide if they’re worth something more.

On camera, she was always so giving of herself, but the person she showed me now was vulnerable, needy—maybe even a little lonely. I wondered how long it had been since someone offered to do something for her.

This book started with an interesting premise especially with the dynamic between the two characters. Both of them were interesting, likable and relatable even though they came from two different worlds. I love how understanding Ryder was with her situation and how independent but caring she was.

The story had a little bit of everything - sexiness, light and funny moments and also some heart. The good supporting characters also added dimension to the storyline. However, I do wish there was a bigger conflict in their relationship because I prefer more intensity.

There was so much he didn’t know that I could have told him. But then what? His little fantasy would be over. That’s what I was to him, wasn’t I? And the fantasy is always better than the reality.

Love Online is a story of finding love in an unexpected way. It would appeal to fans of light, sexy romance with heart.

Malo.

It all started with a click and as they say, the rest was history. :-)

Though having everything he could ever want and many of us wished we had, Ryder was still unhappy. Having lost something he thought he had and wanting it back had him clicking that screen with the violin. Not in his wildest dreams did he think that one click would change his life.

Eden's life was anything but easy yet she did what she had to, to be able to survive and provide. I loved her tenacity and determination to survive. She had to put on that armor to be able to make it everyday no matter what was thrown her way.

Ryder's curiosity brought him the happiness he knew that was missing from his life, though it took him a bit to realize it but when it finally hit him he knew what he needed to do. I fell in love with Ryder and Eden because they were so real to each other and despite the obstacles that stood in their way, they faced them head on and together.

A beautiful story of life, love and forgiveness. Though many of us might be skeptical about finding love online, Ryder and Eden have me rethinking that. Kara~ 5 Clicking Stars

Love can happen anywhere….

Anywhere! Falling in love over the internet isn’t such a surprise anymore. In this age of technology, a connection can be made at the click of a mouse… I’m a bit old-fashioned though and admit I needed some convincing and “ScreenGod” and “Montana” were the couple to do it! The surprises didn’t stop as Ryder and Eden slowly found their way, stumbling, laughing, and living through their unconventional courtship… Ryder was a character that warmed up as their story progressed. He came from a completely different place than Eden yet somehow their initial spark grew into a relationship that worked beautifully for them both. There was heat and sexy as well as deep conversations and heartfelt soul-searching – a mix that made this read one I hated to put down… ~Diane, 4 stars

THE STORY:
Ryder McNamara has a privilege life and his choice of woman falling at his feet. He is tired of them just wanting him for money or fame. Whilst this worked for him for a while he now wants more, craving more than just a physical connection.

Whilst browsing online porn Ryder came across a woman posing with a violin Montana (Eden) running an online chat room.

A connection is made in the unlikeliest place as Eden and Ryder continue to talk, but whilst their identities remain a mystery so does the realism that is their lives. Ryder wants to meet Eden but knows there is something she is hiding from him.

What is Eden's secret and will it affect how Ryder sees her? And when they meet will their chemistry be as hot off camera as it is on?

This story is about love and loss. Overcoming adversity and guilt and finding comfort, friendship and closure in a place where you'd least expect it.

MY THOUGHTS:
This is a such a fresh multilayered story and exactly what I would expect from Penelope Ward, she is such a great storyteller, building intrigue from the get go and engaging her readers with her lovable characters.

The plot is rich in twists and turns and has strong character development. Eden and Ryder have that all consuming fire in your panties chemistry that will have you wriggling in your seat.

Ryder although portrayed at the bad boy party goer at the beginning of the story turns out to be so sweet and understanding underneath. Eden's character is very strong an independent and selfless, she is the fit for Ryder and their chemistry jumped of the pages.

This was a sweet and sexy and entertaining read, I devoured this book in the one day, I loved it. I gave it 4.5 Blushing Stars!

MY RATINGS: (All ratings are out of 5)
HERO RATING: 5
HEROINE RATING: 5
BLUSH RATING: 3
ROMANCE RATING: 4
PLOT RATING: 4.5
OVERALL: 4.5

description

Narrated by: Sebastian York and Andi Ardt
Length:
7 hrs and 08 mins

Sebastian York was such a good fit for Ryder, he has the deep sexy voice that Eden refers to in the book. Sebastian narrates children really well and entertains his audience with his expressive tone.

Andy Ardt is a favourite of mine and I am yet to hear a bad narration from her. She brings her characters to life, she portrays Eden’s personality perfectly adding in a tone vulnerability in her voice.

I gave this audio 5 Blushing Stars
NARRATOR’S PERFORMANCE 5/5
NARRATOR’S MATCHED TO CHARACTERS 5/5

Yuck!!

I like this author early book, I mean very early, before she was getting famous and wrote very silly storylines. However she will join my author to avoid list with this book.

Oh, before this, I had 4 dnf-ed of hers.
I think, I just couldn’t connect anymore with the story she tried to sell.

That’s all!

We all know someone who has tried online dating and may have even met someone to spend the rest of their life with. I’m surprised that this is the first book I have read about this popular way of meeting people.

Ryker lives a Hollywood lifestyle in LA, working in the movie industry for his father. Two years ago he was left heartbroken after his girlfriend left him during a really difficult time in his life. Since then he has only had casual hook ups with the many women who throw themselves at him. The problem with the industry he works in is that he never knows if a girl is genuinely into him or using him to get a leg up.

One night he is pondering if there is more out there for him and makes an impulsive decision to click onto a website for live webcamming. He is drawn to a women posing with a violin. She is beautiful and when she sings a song that holds so many memories for him he begins to engage with her. This begins a regular nightly exchange that he looks forward to.

Eden doesn’t enjoy exposing herself online, it is a means to an end. An easy way to make money without having to leave her home and her anonymity keeps her safe. When she first engages with Ryder, he is like no other man she has talked to before. She finds herself opening up to him in a way she never has with anyone.

Ryder is feeling completely conflicted about how he feels about Eden. Her beauty is not just skin deep. He loves to talking to her and knows he is developing genuine feelings for her. He needs to meet her face to face and find out why she is so reluctant to go further than online interactions.

‘I’m sure if I told any of my friends about you, they wouldn’t get it. They’d tell me I was crazy. But if this is crazy, I don’t want to be normal, because I can’t remember a time when I’ve been happier.’

What Ryder discovers when he finds Eden is not what he expected at all. This is where things go off in a new direction. And OMG, I freaking LOVED every minute of what happened from the day they came face to face. I’m not going to say anything more about this because I want you to enjoy the experience without spoilers.

I love how Ryder and Eden built such a solid friendship before they met in person, they really got to know each other and it cemented the bond between them. I love how much Ryder changed from the moment he began interacting with Eden, having her in his life made him a better man.

I laughed a lot, shed a few tears and was left with my heart bursting with happiness when I finished reading. Loved this!

“We’re perfect together.”

I've never met a bad Penelope Ward book and this one keeps that tradition going.

As is inferred from the title, Ryder and Eden meet online...through some interesting circumstances. There is just something about Eden that Ryder connects with...and he can't let go.

You see, he's the son of a very successful producer and very wealthy. People want him for what he can do for them. He's tired of it and the fakeness of it all.

However, the moment he hears Eden, he is hooked. There are some intriguing similarities between the two and they spend more and more time together.

description

Eden doesn't have as easy a life as Ryder. And through a series of events and some luck, Ryder finds out exactly what that is and it only adds to the connection. Now, they just have to find out a way to make things work.

I really enjoyed Ryder and Eden getting to know each other. When things finally progress, it is HOT! I loved how Ryder took control of things.

The drama(s) definitely help move the relationship along even if they were a bit predictable. It was pretty amazing the lengths that Ryder went to to make everything work out!

“Because you’re my brad.” (<-couldn't let that nugget slip by....sooo sweet!)

4.5 'Blue Skies' Stars!

Penelope Ward's stories always have her very special touch. They always feel familiar but they also are always very different from each other. I love this author's originality with the themes and the surprises along the way of reading. Love Online sounded so good to me and, of course, I was pleasantly surprised after reading very few pages. Yes, our main couple meets online but it's not exactly what you think it is.. It's very difficult to explain anything without spoilers but trust me and don't try to find them on reviews!

This is a love story between a handsome, rich and famous film producer called Ryder McNamara and the compelling woman he meets online, Eden. These two meet as “ScreenGod” and “Montana” and their story is extremely entertaining and unique! This couple finds a beautiful connection while talking to each other and they start falling in love even without truly knowing each other. Yes, they know the general stuff but what is behind their screens? Oh boy, that is so much more! And that is what makes Love Online such an amazing reading journey: it's moving, funny, emotional and sensual. Probably one of Penelope's sexiest books!

True relationships can be based on how two people connect, their shared ideals and tastes—their overall chemistry. And mine with Eden was off the charts.

I really loved Ryder and Eden. They are so different from one another and they belong to two very divergent worlds. Still, they find a bond that once it starts it will not be stopped. Yes, these two have pasts, secrets and things they don't share instantly but that is what got me hooked to this book. I loved all the surprises that I got while reading this novel and I loved how Ryder and Eden felt more connected because of them. These two.. my God! Ryder is so hot and Eden is his perfect match. They will burn your Kindles, oh yes! They are so great as individuals but they are sublime together. I am so glad I decided to read this story and I am so happy these two found each other and their happy ending!

“Every inch of my heart is filled with you. It’s been slowly filling up from the moment I laid eyes on you.”

Therefore, I am rating Love Online with 4.5 STARS because Penelope Ward delivered another genuine love story that got me hooked from the very first page. I loved the characters, their relationship, the originality of the theme and the chemistry between Ryder and Eden. I love a unique story that makes me feel and makes me melt all over and this one definitely did that! As always, I can't wait for her next book (new collab with Vi Keeland, yay!!) and I surely recommend reading this one!

Sooo...this started out really good for me. By 'good' I mean 'different'. It was an unusual way for the hero (Ryder) and heroine (Eden) to meet (). So I was really into the something different aspect.

Ryder was this handsome, rich, 28 year old guy, the son of the head of a Hollywood movie studio, expected to follow in his father's footsteps. But he was unsure of the life he was leading. He was unsure of his career path. He had a fairly recent difficult breakup with a long time girlfriend, was tired of the Hollywood social scene, and seemed to be going through the motions in life. Bored at a party he was hosting, he retires to his bedroom to go online and do a little browsing on some --and there he comes across a picture of a beautiful girl playing a violin...He's intrigued.

Eden is the pretty 24 year old with an unusual job. She meets Ryder and at first they go by their screen names only. They develop a rapport and get to know each other, talking most every night. They open up to each other and eventually reveal their real names. Ryder does much of the revealing, and Eden holds back a bit. She's a girl with some responsibilities. There's something she's hiding, and Ryder is curious, but doesn't want to pressure her. But when Ryder doesn't hear from her for a few days, he gets worried. Something must be wrong and he manages to track her down by virtue of the few clues she's given him. And then they finally meet in person. And this is where their love story takes off...

I found this story very sweet. Okay so maybe it was a tad unbelievable, but I was able to go with it. The whole reason that Eden and Ryder felt that they couldn't make their relationship last had me scratching my head.

Ryder and Eden certainly had some chemistry, no doubt about it. There were some very hot scenes. I liked that they seemed to have a mature relationship. There were no big 'misunderstandings' even though there were some incidents where I thought they were heading down that path and didn't. I liked that they were able to talk things through and I liked how they supported each other. I believed in their love.

This was a pretty fast paced read that held my interest. I liked the characters and the unusual way that they met. Some decent heat too. All in all a solid little romance.
A solid 4 stars.

Oh my goodness….I just never wanted this book to end. I finished it in one sitting. I could not remove myself from this book. It just consumed me from page one. What a hero!! Let me say it again, what a hero!!! One of my favorite heroes and books from Penelope Ward. Ryder was everything I love in a hero and more. I just loved the way he treated everyone around him. I also loved the heroine Eden. I admired her because she’s an independent woman who works hard and has her priorities straight. Their romance was hot, romantic and as usual having the funny moments so typical of a Penelope Ward book. Huge book-hangover. Perfection!

This one might be a little cliché with the rich guy falling for the girl who’s doing video chat on a porn website just because she needs to support her family, but i liked it a lot. As my forth book in a row by Penelope Ward i’m getting the feeling that her books aren’t what they you expect them to be. They are so much more.

I think one of my favorite things about Penelope Ward books are that they are never quite what I’m expecting. There are all these little emotional twists and turns that take what looks like a simple love story, turns it on its head, and the end result is this multi-layered, emotional, unputdownable, epic love story.

Ryder and Eden’s story started sort of fast and furious for me and it took me a little bit to catch up to their feelings. I might actually have liked a little more dialogue/interaction in those beginning scenes to allow me to experience what drew them to each other initially, rather than sort of hearing about it after the fact. That said, it really didn’t take long for my heart to jump on board, and once it did – I was completely smitten. By the time I turned the last page, my eyes were a little drippy, my nose a little sniffily, and my heart so incredibly full with the beauty of this lovely story.

As I mentioned, there are lots of little surprises and heart-wrenching little twists packed in here. Nothing played out exactly the way I expected to, and that was maybe what I loved the most about it. In the end, Love Online was a super sexy, heartwarming, completely addicting and wholly satisfying read, and one I definitely recommend! ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

You know, until I read Love Online I didn’t realize just how much I enjoyed a “hidden identity” romance. I don’t know what I was expecting in this romance between Ryder and Eden, but what I got was a multi-layered, deep-seeded romance that I couldn’t put down.

I loved the premise behind the screen name personas of “ScreenGod” and “Montana”—that neither knew who the other was, but there was still something that connected them through their chat sessions. And that connection grew as they revealed more and more details about their “real” selves—enough details that led Ryder to Eden, just when she didn’t realize she needed him most.

Seriously, I could wax poetic about how Eden and Ryder’s connection was palpable, that their sexy times were face fanning hot, and that their love, as it grew and became stronger only made me want to know more and more about them.

I loved the bit of slow-burn due to the circumstances of their inability to meet—kinda hard to kiss and hug through a computer screen. I loved the sweet twists and turns that their road to happily ever after took. And I really loved how Love Online ended. Swoon. ~ Missy, 4 stars

What can I say? Penelope Ward delivers her signature writing style with another great book! Love Online is full of fun, heart, and surprises. With that being said, I'm going to make my review short and sweet. Go in blind! There are so many fantastic things I want to say but they would spoil the whole shebang so I'm not going to say them!

"Life takes you in unexpected directions. There's good, and there's bad to that. Sometimes on a detour, you find what you need in the least likely of places."

Eden and Ryder meet unconventionally online (duh) and their relationship blossoms with as many bumps as you can imagine. They're in different places in their lives, but their love is there and that's what they need to get them through to the very sweet end. This isn't just a cut and dry romance, like most Penelope Ward books, there are underlying boundaries that need crossing before the finish and it was a great ride getting there. Read it, enjoy Ryder and Eden, then get back to me and tell me what you thought!

Sadly, this book was a disappointment. :((

So the characters Eden Shortsleeve and Ryder McNamara met online. Ryder is an ultra rich Hollywood mogul who happened to visit a porn site one night out of curiosity. That's when he met Eden, a cam girl who does this job for a living to support her brother. At first their interactions were just playful and they talked like friends but it all became a little serious after they realized that they connected in so many ways. Their story progressed when Ryder went to Eden's hometown, Utah, and got to know her more.

The thing that quite frustrated me here was the poor character development of Eden. She has a valid reason as of why she is doing her job as cam girl, but I don't understand how she could not find a much better job, something that makes her comfortable. It's not like she doesn't have a choice. She has all the capabilities to find a rewarding job that doesn't involve showing her t*ts and a**. I mean, if she's happy doing that, then maybe that's okay but then at the end of the book, she felt embarrassed when she encountered a guy and thought that he recognized her from the site.

Ryder also frustrated me. He is jealous when Eden talks to male strangers online but he was not firm enough to advise Eden to stop and look for another job.

Both characters are not strong enough in this book. I found them too dependent on each other. At some point also I found things that are unrealistic, especially the romance. The things that Ryder did in the last parts of the book were also just... unbelievable.

Love Online is a sweet, heartwarming story about two very different individuals from very different worlds, whose lives collide online.

Ryder and Eden have very important responsibilities. They are defined by their responsibilities. Their responsibilities puts their lives into prospective. It also sets limitations. Its the limitations that they must overcome in order find true love.

I enjoyed the story. There are some very good lessons learned and heartfelt sentiments that make this a gratifying read.

“I could never have imagined how much my life would change with one click of a button.”

4.5 stars!

I love this book! A sweet, sexy, fun romance that is full of chemistry and super functional, with characters that completely stole my heart. It’s a unique twist on a modern love story, and I loved watching it all unfold.

Ryder and Eden meet in unlikely circumstances. Ryder is young, gorgeous and wealthy, working for his father’s film production company, but living a mostly solitary life and still coming to terms with the breakdown of a long-term relationship two years previously. While trolling the internet for porn one night, he comes across a ‘Cam Girl’, a girl who chats with men online, and performs various sexual activities. Of course he finds her attractive, but it’s her beautiful singing that draws him to her, giving him a sense of peace that he hasn’t experienced before. And it’s that that brings him back night after night, holding him captivated and driving him to contact her personally.

Performing online for men isn’t the dream job that Eden always dreamed off, but it pays the bills and it fits with her lifestyle and the responsibilities that she carries. She’s a strong woman who does what she needs to do, and I really admire that about her. She often talks one-on-one to men who pay for her time, but with Ryder it’s different from the beginning. He doesn’t want anything sexual from her, he just wants to talk, and when he comes back night after night, the two of them develop a friendship which quickly becomes more as their chemistry sizzles and their attraction blossoms.

“I’m sure if I told any of my friends about you, they wouldn’t get it. They’d tell me I was crazy. But if this is crazy, I don’t want to be normal, because I can’t remember a time when I’ve been happier.”

They share their personal lives without fully revealing their identifies or location, and when Ryder takes the chance to finally track Eden down, everything changes.

I don’t want to say too much more about this book. The above is just the beginning of Ryder and Eden’s story, and once they meet in real life, that’s when the love story really kicks off. All of the banter and flirting online has seen them grow close, and I was literally squeeing when they finally got to see each other. And from there a beautifully honest, easy and real relationship develops. They don’t play games, they are open with their feelings, and they are accepting of each other and all that they bring to the relationship. Perhaps Ryder is a little too accepting of Eden’s work? I found some of that a bit hard to swallow, but perhaps he’s just a more understanding and tolerant person than I. But it adds an interesting dynamic to their relationship, it’s all so very functional, and I loved how natural and sensible they are about it all. Their situation isn’t easy, but they care enough about each other to work through it, and the ups and downs of their lives brings a lot of heart to the story.

“When something is worth fighting for, you don’t wait around to figure out logistics. You say yes, you accept the gift you’ve been given, and you figure out the rest later, because life is too damn short to be unhappy.”

They have a lot to figure out – both individually and as a couple, and I couldn’t put this book down as their story played out. The love story is fun, easy, emotional, seriously sexy and beautifully romantic, with an almost Cinderella-ish vibe, and Ryder melted me over and over with his actions, thoughts and swoony declarations. And the additional side characters bring so much to the story, making this a truly special read.

“That’s the thing. Life takes you in unexpected directions. There’s good, and there’s bad to that. Sometimes on a detour, you find what you need in the least likely of places. And then you wonder if that was the direction you were always meant to go.”

Loved this one – 4.5 stars.

P.S. I listened to this as an audiobook, and the much-loved paring of Sebastian York and Andie Arndt is perfection once again as they bring these characters to life.

I’m not sure where she gets her inspiration for stories, or her perfectly amazing men, but I hope Penelope Ward doesn’t stop. She’s my go-to one click lady, and I’m never disappointed. Love Online hit all the right keys for me, and gave me yet another couple to love.

On the outside, Ryder was the typical rich, spoiled guy. A prince in an entertainment industry family, with women throwing themselves at him. But on the inside, Ryder housed a lonely man, bored with what was given to him too easily and longing for something that he didn’t realize. Until he stumbled on a cam-girl singing online one night. Eden was cheerful and lively and I absolutely adored that she was so far from any of this author’s other heroines. As a woman who made her living doing whatever she was paid to do online, she was unapologetic and unembarrassed and I loved her for that.

What started as a random connection between two strangers quickly turned into more. But how much of their true selves do people really show online? How much is for show and how much is the true person underneath the mask?

This story touched a personal note with me, and I marvel at just how right Penelope Ward got the dynamics of Ryder and Eden’s relationship. I was introduced to my husband on the phone, and got to know him without ever having physically met him in person. And while it is an unorthodox and virtual way of meeting, the feelings that grow are every bit as real and as strong as if the person was sitting right in front of you. The affection and emotions that the author described were spot on, showing the initial excitement, the deepening connection, the feelings of “Am I crazy, I’ve never even met this person?” And when you finally do meet, the feeling of “love at first sight” when in reality, you already know this person heart and soul. The story felt so truthful and honest to me in its portrayal, and she just simply got it right.

Love Online was one of those stories that just made me smile. There was some angst, as I always anticipate in Penelope Ward’s stories, but compared to some of her other books, it was actually kept to a minimum. Instead, I was able to enjoy this couple and their growing romance, and just lose myself in a thoroughly modern love story of getting to know someone, falling in love, and then meeting.

DNF @ 35%

Yeah...no. It wasn’t the cam girl thing that bugged. At all.

It was the instalove. It was being told about their connection made in past tense time jumps of lengthy conversations that I didn’t experience and both already thinking they might be in love in their inner dialogue this early.

It was the H being way too beta for my preferences. It was his ridiculousness with his obsession with the h, woe is me attitude, and chicken pot pie (< yeah, even that bugged).

Too many books on my tbr to waste my time if I’m already this over it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Super sexy
Low Angst
Emotional, heart warming moments
Almost perfect! I took 1/2 a star off because I just could not connect the voice of the male narrator with the model on the cover. It kind of threw me off. LOL
