Team Cerberus #4

Safeguarding Miley

Rate this book
Dr. Miley Ellison loves her career choice. Taking care of small animals is her passion - the larger ones? Not so much. However, when her grandfather leaves her his practice in Wyoming, she resigns herself to a life of dealing mostly with livestock. It isn't ideal but at least she's in control of her own life. If only her mind would focus on the job and not on her best friend's sexy brother. Dating him is not an option. It doesn't help he's got a Lancelot complex and she's no Guinevere.

Alcide Montgomery, known as Cowboy by his SEAL team, faces returning to duty after being home to care for his sick father. Being protective is a part of his psyche - he can't help but rescue damsels in distress. One look at Miley and he knows she's going to need help. However, she lets him know it's neither wanted nor welcomed -- a first for him.

One day, Miley's at the wrong place at the wrong time, plunging her into trouble of the deadly kind. Cowboy rides to her rescue, saving her life and protecting her from harm. Unfortunately, it's not over. As Cowboy wars with his commitment to rejoin his teammates, he worries who will be Miley's knight in shining armor. Who's going to fight for Miley while he's fighting for his country?

Melissa was born in Tupelo, Mississippi and raised in Houlka, a small rural town forty-five minutes southwest down the famous Natchez Trace. She found a love of reading very early and quickly devoured everything she could. Told repeatedly that she had a wonderful imagination, she turned to scribbling her musings and wrote her first novel while in college. It was never published and has since vanished. The death of a close friend who aspired to become an author reawakened her own desire resulting in penning her first book, Shattered Dreams, published in 2013.

Melissa now resides in Meridian, Mississippi with her supportive family – husband, Robert and daughter Rebecca, two cats, and two dogs. When she isn't writing, she spends way too much time with her online friends and feeding her ravenous appetite for the written word.

Dr. Miley Ellison is a dedicated veterinarian, even if she'd rather spend more time treating cats than cows (unfortunate, since she lives in ranching country). When animals on several ranches get sick, Miley goes looking for the source, and uncovers an illegal dumping operation run by people with friends in high places. Thankfully Miley's best friend's older brother is Alcide Montgomery, a Navy SEAL on leave taking care of his sick father. Can his connections help Miley get the illegal dumping information to someone who can stop it? And can he keep her safe from the criminals who know she's out to get them?

Melissa Kay Clarke writes some of the best Operation Alpha books. Unlike some authors, who use Susan Stoker's characters but don't make them seem authentic, Clarke uses the characters, plot and style in the same way Stoker does -- to create a book that could have been written by Susan Stoker herself. Clarke balances plot, romance and action brilliantly in a wonderful, easy to read novel.

This is the 4th full book on this series. Be aware there is a smaller book for one of the IT helpers. Also be aware this series goes by a few different names Team Cerberus is one of them.

We've met our hero in the other books and know a bit about him by the time we get to this book. Including how well he knows our heroine. However, they are playing a bit of a game with knowing but not really knowing each other. Our hero loves trying to protect others and our heroine doesn't like it. She likes standing up on her own. However, when she finds out some shocking news she needs our hero like never before. Especially once one of the new people in town take a liking to her.

I liked the different aspect of the original story line. However, at times it got to be a bit annoying about how often the heroine tries to take the hero to task about being so helpful. Get over it already I wanted to shout at her. The plot was good but it was just the one sticking point about the heroine. I did like the hero's sister and felt a connection there too, although you got to feel the same way about the sister's fiance as our hero did!

Great book.

This is the first book I have read by Melissa Kay Clarke. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Miley is a feisty veterinarian who's come back to take over the family practice in the middle of no where. She not exactly thrilled to be back in the farm country but she's doing it for her family. Cowboy is a navy seal who's home to take care of things while his father is in the hospital. He likes saving people. Miley refuses to be saved. Ultimately its a battle of the minds between them with a healthy dose of chemistry. I enjoyed the interactions between them and Miley's smart mouth. I did have a little bit of trouble with the timeline of things throughout the book as it jumps at random intervals. Other than that overall is an enjoyable read that will leave you wondering about the stories of the ancillary characters that you encounter throughout. I'm looking forward to catching up on the other books in this series and reading more in the future from this author!

This book is part of a series. This book is a standalone, but there are characters that appear from previous books. Miley has taken over her Uncle's vet practice in a rural town. Her love is the city, but she is fulfilling her family duty. Cowboy is the friend's older brother, and off limits. Except neither of them can fight the attraction, and when Miley gets herself in a situation and chased by a madman things change...and heat up...rather rapidly. Cowboy knows Miley is it for him, but his lifestyle as a seal (and cowboy in his off time) provide relationship challenges. I liked this book a lot..there was an element of suspense that was interesting and not overdone in the romance genre, so it was fresh and engaging. I would recommend this book and even better it is on KU so you can follow the series!

Miley loves animals and has become a vet. In the process of getting to a place to where she loves her job, she inherit her grandfather's farm in Wyoming. As she is getting settled, she notices weird events. She launches an investigation and runs into Alcide, her best friend'ssexy brother and he is a navy seal. One thing leads to another and he feels compelled to resuce her, and she's not having it. An intense relationship as she dodges him, but he feels like he must resuce her, not used to being turned down. A good read, intense, and she must face life and realize that she can't control love or her life in the way she has been accustomed to.

Safeguarding Miley

Melissa is a new author to me. I first heard of her through a Facebook meet the authors. I like what was said in the group and decided to try her books. To my surprise I already had one in my to be read.
I was not disappointed. Miley is a take charge type of person. As she says frequently she doesn't need a knight in shining armour to rescue her. In comes Cowboy, Navy Seal, who can't help but to be that knight.
Miley is the town vet including large animals which is not fond to doing. Cowboy is home on leave to help while his father is in the hospital. Miley is his sisters best friend.
Then the fun begins. Needed to read.

Miley, living out her pap-pap dream in Wyoming and vows that she doesn't need relationships. Cowboy, home from leave to help out on the family farm.

When a threat comes to Miley and the surrounding ranches Cowboy steps in to help, even though she doesn't want him involved.

I love these special forces books. You get to know each and every member of the team and family. This was a read that was full of suspense, angst and twists & turns. It will keep you reading. The best was when Miley finally decided to let her past go and that she deserved the dreams she wanted.

This book was pretty good. I can understand wanting your freedom and independence but not at the expense of people trying to protect you. Your only putting other people at risk doing so. So saying, there is a crazy russian out there that wants Miley in no uncertain terms and do whatever to get her. Cowboy trys to protect her and not get involved feelings wise but it isn't easy. He takes her to San Diego to keep her safe. Of course she meets the wives of the other seal teams. Danger, kidnapping and HEA.

ENTERTAINING ROMANCE AND ADVENTURE

Miley arrives to take over her grandfather's veterinarian practice. As she is getting settled, she finds not only injured or poisoned animals but other weird events. While investigating, she meets Cowboy, a Navy Seal. Their attraction is very intense but since he is a protector he feels he needs to protect her while investigating. A fast moving suspenseful drama.

Its a book that shows a strong women who finds herself needing more help then she thought. Pride of course will cause lots of problems, even a near death. The heat between the two are great. Story with lots of heart and who will decide whats more important. One going back to serve his country and the ones he calls his family or one who feels she doesn't need anyone she can do this on her own. I enjoyed the way the author told the story and how they both had their own struggles to over come.

She will not be controlled by another man again

Mikey seems to attract the worst men, except for Cowboy. However, she doesn’t know if she can trust him. Though when she starts getting threatened, she may have to break down and ask for help from Cowboy. However, when she starts developing feelings, can she trust him. This was a good love story that had a major crazy villain to keep things interesting.

Two different kinds of vets in this book. War vet and veterinarian. Both stubborn and caring. When Miley finds herself in the sights of a psycho, Cowboy comes to her rescue more than once. She’s jaded after an abusive ex and afraid to accept his help. Eventually she allows it. A little bit of mystery and romance mixed with drama.

I loved Cowboy and Miley especially when they interact with each other in the book. Miley is head strong and wants no help from Cowboy for she believes she can happen anything. Cowboy just wants to help and can't see why Miley doesn't want to accept his help. A lot is going on with his ranch and her patients.

Another amazing book by this author. Miley and Cowboy were made for each other. Even though she was afraid to love him at first, once he reassured her that she held all the power in their relationship, it allowed her to truly open herself up to his love. It's hard not to fall in love with these characters, can't wait to read the next book in this series. Great read and highly recommended.

Good read

Miley and Rissa are best friends. Russia's brother is Cowboy. Miley was running her grandfather 's veterinary clinic. She is going to several ranchers farms and finding sick or read animals. Cowboy wants to help her and she finally decided to let him. Only some prince has decided she would be his queen. Cowboy isn't happy about this.

I enjoyed the twists and turns in this book. I was able to connect with the characters. Miley is sassy and stubborn. Of course her protector, Cowboy, is just as stubborn. Truly enjoyed the suspense and romance! Great military romance story!

Miley Ellison is 26 and a veterinarian at Ellison Animal Hospital which she reluctantly bought from her grandpa. She is best friends with Melissa Montgomery and she has recently come across some sick animals and she wants to get to the bottom of it.

Alcide "Cowboy" Montgomery is a SEAL who has come home to help his father with their ranch after his dad was in the hospital. When he sees Miley being harassed by a man in town he interferes with force.

As Miley begins to investigate the dead animals she soon finds herself the target of Tariq and Loren Hoxha, the owners of Double H Ranch. When Alcide learns what is happening with Miley will he be able to keep her safe?

This was a great book filled with action from start to finish!

I thought Miley was great and I loved how she worked hard at keeping herself safe and I also liked how she knew it was time to confide in Alcide what was going on. I did also feel bad for Miley with the fact that she was doing a job that she didn't love but did so out of obligation to her grandpa.

Alcide was awesome and I loved his protective nature over Miley and his sister Melissa. I loved that Alcide had the connections to discover more about Tariq and he knew that he couldn't protect Miley all on his own!

The connection and hotness level between Miley and Alcide was through the roof!!

It was super interesting to see how both of the Hoxha brothers were and how Loren was infatuated with Miley which was a huge concern! Tariq wanted Miley controlled and was dangerous but Loren was also dangerous as he had an unknown factor with his stability.

The action scenes in the book were great! The end was awesome and I loved how certain things were prevented!

The end with Miley and Alcide was great and I love that she is following her own dreams!

Half of it is good.

Miley was mean and rude for the first half of the book. She needs some serious therapy. Cowboy was better but not by much. The plot is kinda a 2 parter. The second half is much better. It wasnt so depressing and miley and cowboy started to get along. And with the extra bonus of Wolf, Caroline and Crew come into the picture. Not really worth the read but I will not say I regret reading it.

Miley and Cowboy

Miley took over her grandfather's vet practice in Wyoming. Cowboy saddled with the horrific name Alcide spends his downtime as a SEAL helping on the family ranch in the same small town. Miley stumbles across a criminal plot and having no one else to turn to confides in him. It will take his and Wolf's SEAL teams to finally free her. Along the way Miley confronts her demons and most of the SEAL couples from both teams make appearances.

A great addition to this series. Miley and Cowboy are brought together and Cowboy's protective instincts are activated. Miley is not a girl who wants to be protected. Can these two get their act together and make it work??
