German publisher Karl Baedeker (1801-1859) established a series of guidebooks in 1835. His son, Karl Baedeker (1837-1911) continued to publish the namesake guidebooks to countries. Eventually the firm and its name were bought by MairDumont, which publish the famous Baedeker travel guides today.
I am reading the 1930 edition of this which is really interesting. It smells and feels this old and is bound in weathered red leather with gold calligraphy. Filled with all kinds of little facts.
