I thought I loved Jodi Gallego's first book, but wow, this one is even better! The characters just pulled me in and held me tight. The historical fiction elements just shine, and bring the atmosphere to life, as a character all unto itself. I particularly enjoyed the glimpses and references of characters in the first book, appearing in this one too. Quite a nice, and unexpected, surprise. I am truly hoping that there will be a third installment in the series.

I dare say I liked this book even better than the first book, but then again, this one features a brave and beautiful nurse searching for her brother. This book features Deirdre Cassidy as a strong, well developed heroine, plus a fast paced and suspenseful plot and just enough references to the first novel in the series to trigger memories, but not enough that it's distracting. All in all, a fun and highly entertaining read!

It was great to be back in Southern Louisiana in The Light at Finnigan's End.

Deirdre Cassidy is all alone, desperate, and seeking revenge. She’s out to take down the Moret gang, rival gang of the Grangers, who we got to know so well in A Shine that Defies the Dark. She has a plan - that plan did not include Mo Moret, the son of notorious Claude Moret. With his unsettling kindness and magnetic presence, Deirdre might be in for more trouble than she bargained for.
