Lots can happen when two people collide after tens years apart, especially when the breakup was not so pleasant. Matters become a bit more strained when one is the detective; the other the suspect. Ethan is just trying to build a new life after breaking free of the criminal underworld. He never intended to let his life sink that low, but life threw him a bad blow forcing him to quit college and support his younger brother. We all know how that works. Money was short, bills were not. Interestingly, Ethan used his genius technology skills to earn a living, though his boss was a crime family. When he could, he broke free and started a clean life. Once again money was short and the bills weren’t. But this time he persevered, leaving crime behind.
When he was arrested for a crime he didn’t commit, he came face to face with the lover he left behind ten years prior. Daniel had the dubious honor of interrogating his former lover when Ethan was arrested. Both were in shock. Ethan for his false arrest, Daniel at seeing Ethan after ten years of silence. The story builds as the two attempt to solve the city’s biggest case. Can they work together? Will their past interfere? Will love get in the way?
The premise of the story is great. Peter Styles’ story development is also great. Though not a short story, Detecting Love could be read in one sitting and will deliver both suspense and romance. You kinda know how it will end, but the road to ‘the end’ is filled with twists and turns along the way. If you enjoy a fast paced, romance, crime story, then Detecting Love is a good pick. Give it a try.
I enjoyed this book about a second chance romance between Ethan and Daniel. They were college sweethearts who broke up shortly after Ethan's parents were killed in an accident. Daniel went on to be a detective in the police force and had very little time for anything other than work. Ethan turned to a life of crime and dropped out of college. Ten years later, Ethan was trying to get his life together and stay out of trouble when he was arrested following a break and enter. Ethan was innocent and was at work at the time but fit the description of the suspect. When Daniel is the officer questioning him, they are both shocked to see the other. Daniel is working a string of break and enters and when someone is murdered, Ethan thinks he knows who is at fault. Ethan goes to Daniel and tells him what he knows and Daniel wants him to work undercover to help get evidence. When Daniel and Ethan work close together, they also realize they still have feelings for one another. They have to learn to trust the other and decide if they can be together. I really enjoyed this book, I thought Ethan was a good guy who had a lot of bad luck and I think Daniel had to learn not everything is either black or white. I liked them together and thought they had gret chemistry. Good one.
An excellent gangster and detective story with constance danger to keep the reader on the edge of his seat. Ethan and Daniel parted ways several years ago when Ethan drops out of college when both his parents get killed. Falling into a life of crime, he is finally on the path of redemption. Daniel in the meantime follows through with his dreams and is climbing his way up the ranks to become a star detective. Now there are robberies that are happening all over town and no one can find the perpetrators. Getting arrested on circumstantial evidence, Ethan and Daniel make a reacquaintance when Daniel has to interrogate him. The two walk in danger when Ethan decides to help Daniel with the case. A dangerous decision for Ethan. Will life let these two find the love they lost so many years ago? An excellent read. One that others will enjoy. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
This is a excellent & captivating second chance MM romance and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. This book is about: two men (Ethan, who has a criminal record) & (Daniel, who is a detective) They meet after several years have passed but their journey to love & happiness is filled with trials & tribulations. What you will find in this book is: drama, intrigue, suspense, twists & turns, adventure, action, reunion, danger, crime, drugs, corruption, murder, doubts, distrust, insecurities, redemption, lust, love, passion and mild erotic scenes. The story-line and plot is well-thought out and written, the pace is steady and not rushed. The characters are well-developed with individual personalities. I would recommend this book to people who like to read a M/M romance with a HEA.
Daniel and Ethan dating in college but life came between them and it's been 10 years since the young lovers parted. While Daniel worked hard to move up the police force ranks to become a detective, Ethan lived a life of crime. No wonder their reunion happens in a police interrogation room. Only, Ethan swears he has been legit for about a year and had nothing to do with the current crimes Daniel is investigating. But soon the two men are working together to get information regarding the crimes... And reuniting the flames of their attraction.
Great book. The story is very interesting and keeps you intrigued. Definitely recommend.
I received an ARC from the author. I'm voluntarily leaving this review.
This is one of several books I've been by Peter Styles and a favorite of mine.
The main characters are flawed but basically good. The plot is intense and danger lurks around every corner. Tension winds through the pages as criminals are willing to do whatever they can to make a profit, at the cost of everyone around them. Luckily, romance cannot be stifled and it blooms as a detective and a former criminal/turned undercover informant are brought closer together as they pose as boyfriends.
A great book with believable dialogue that helps move the story to a satisfying conclusion.
Ethan and Daniel were dating in college but with the tragic loss of his parents he goes into a life of crime to support his brother and himself. Daniel becomes a cop that is investigating a string of break ins. Ethan gets picked up and Daniel goes in to interrogate him, but realizes that it's his ex from 10 years ago. This second chance is about learning let go of the past and trust what is in front of them. I would like to learn more about the brothers that Ethan was helping to get out of the crime world. Overall a great book and fan of Peter's writing.
Daniel and Ethan's story was compelling and heart breaking. The death of parents at an early age while trying to support a younger sibling is a hardship most people can't handle. Ethan did the best he could with what he understood. Daniel just finished school and lived his life. Ten years later it seems Ethan is really helping Daniel get the life he thought he already had.
I had a big huge review written out for this and the internet ate it, and I don't want to waste anymore time on this book than I already have.
It's been 10 days since I put this book down, and I had been dreading picking it back up, so I figured it was time to admit defeat.
To sum it all up, the story and the characters aren't redeeming enough to make up for the numerous plot holes, uninspired writing and the constantly shifting, discernible POV.
Peter Styles is an excellent writer who depicts the emotions involved in such a way that it is easy to understand the motivation behind what the characters do and say, so you can relate to them.
Ethan and Daniel get another chance to find love but never thought it would be with each other. They meet again after 10 years and life has not been easy. The road to a happy ending is hard fought and sexy.
Solid work. I liked the edge this story runs on, a cop and a criminal who is trying to get his life together. Is not over the top, is basically just straight to the point until the point is made. I enjoyed this for all the right reasons!
This was a surprise of a read. I thought it was going to be just a second chance story but it turned into a suspenseful crime story. Definitely want to read more of Peter Styles stories.
