Eugenio Garin (May 9, 1909 – December 29, 2004) was an Italian philosopher and Renaissance historian. He was recognised as an authority on the cultural history of the Renaissance.

Jelikož jde o portréty jednotlivých typů postav renesance a každý portrét je psán někým jiným, některé části knihy mě zaujaly více a jiné méně. Někteří autoři se do psaní ponořili a jejich znalost tématu byla velmi hluboká, ale pro čtenáře, který nemá stejné znalosti, dost úmorná. Poslední kapitoly týkající se umělců, žen a cestovatelů však byly velmi čtivé a troufám si říct, že by jimi nepohrdli ani laikové historií políbení maximálně Vondruškou.

Un testo molto interessante che ho deciso di acquistare qualche tempo fa e che consiglio a tutti coloro che hanno voglia di approcciarsi al mondo rinascimentale o che, come me, vogliono approfondire qualche suo aspetto. Il linguaggio dei saggi contenuti in questo tomo (che preciso essere tutti di autori diversi) è scorrevole e comprensibile, adatto a qualsiasi lettore (più o meno abituato alla saggistica); tuttavia ho trovato ben poche informazioni considerabili "nuove per me" ed è quindi piuttosto semplice nel complesso: un potpourri di nozioni più utili a chi è completamente a digiuno del tema.
