Most labor economics textbooks pay little attention to actual labor markets, with the exception of the occasional reference to competitive labor markets like that of the United States. The Economics of Imperfect Labor Markets is the only textbook to focus on imperfectly competitive labor markets and to provide a systematic framework for analyzing how labor institutions function and interact in these markets. The Economics of Imperfect Labor Markets examines the many institutions that affect the behavior of workers and employers in imperfect labor markets. These include minimum wages, employment protection legislation, unemployment benefits, active labor market policies, working time regulations, family policies, collective bargaining, early retirement programs, and education and migration policies. Written for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students, the book carefully defines and measures these institutions to accurately characterize their effects, and discusses how these institutions are today being changed by political and economic forces.

Tito Michele Boeri (Milano, 1958) è un economista e accademico italiano.
Professore ordinario di economia del lavoro, svolge le proprie attività di ricerca presso l'IGIER dell'Università Bocconi. È stato direttore della Fondazione Rodolfo Debenedetti, istituzione volta a promuovere la ricerca nel campo della riforma dei sistemi di welfare e dei mercati del lavoro in Europa, fino al momento della sua nomina a presidente dell'INPS.

È stato consulente del Fondo monetario internazionale, della Banca Mondiale, della Commissione europea e del governo italiano, nonché senior economist all'OCSE dal 1987 al 1996. È inoltre research fellow del CEPR, del William Davidson Institute dell'Università del Michigan, del Netspar dell'Università di Tilburg e dell'IZA - Institut zur Zukunft der Arbeit (Istituto per il Futuro del Lavoro) a Bonn. È membro del Consiglio della European Economic Association.
