Contextualizes, unpacks, and analyzes a pop culture phenomenon. It’s insightful, thoughtful, well-written, wonderfully footnoted, and fun.

For old and new fans alike, I’ll Be There for You is a fantastic look into the how the show happened. Many of us uber fans know a lot of detail, but I think the history between the creators and how it all really started was incredibly interesting. The book didn’t hold back, starting from the beginning, all the way to the almost end and then the real end. There were details I knew, lots I didn’t, and many I simply forgot about. I caught myself laughing out loud, remembering the scenes I was readi ...more

First of all, thanks to Netgalley for this advanced copy. A solid outline of each of the main character's beginning. Great writing about topics like the haircut, the holiday armadillo, the weird Joey and Rachael relationship, and even the #metoo movement. This is a great read for someone who loves Friends

This book is just pure fun enjoyment. Do not go into it expecting deep thoughts about the show, or even really anything new. It is an enjoyable read with fun insights and interesting tidbits that relaxed and entertained me before bed each night. If you are someone who spent their teenage/early adult years watching this show, then you will like this book too. I received a digital copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

For me reading non-fiction isn't always high on the list but when I saw this on Netgalley I took a chance in requesting because just like the author, Kelsey Miller, I was only ten years old when it debuted but it's a timeless show that I continue to watch and rely on for comfort even 20+ years past it's departure from "mus

I received a copy of this book free from the good-reads first reads program. I really enjoyed reading this and it took me back to just binge watching this and laughing one second and crying the next. Anything you would want to know about friends is in here. If you love the show consider this your companion to watching it. Simply put if you love friends, you will LOVE this book! Can't wait to read the full version.

Today, Friends is remembered as an icon of ’90s comedy and the Must-See TV years. But when the series debuted in 1994, no one anticipated the sensation it would become. From the first wave of Friends mania to the backlash and renaissance that followed, the show maintained an uncanny connection t

Full-disclosure: I only received a two-chapter sampler of this book - so my review is based on that short (but amazing) section.

Could this BE any more amazing? I'm not sure, but aside from making me do bad Chandler impressions while reading this, this book only had amazing effects on my life. Okay, sure, that's an exaggeration, but this short snippet was so relatable, I couldn't put it down. I, like many readers, have an unfair hesitation about non-fiction. Maybe it was all the boring textbooks

3.5 Stars

Could I BE any more excited to get a copy of this book? I have been a fan of the tv sitcom Friends since it premiered in the mid 90's. My friends would gather around for Must See TV Thursday nights, wore Monica's spaghetti strap dresses, had The Rachel and dreamed of moving into their huge apartment in the heart of Manhattan. Kelsey Miller's new book takes us right back to those days whe

This is a pretty standard book about the phenomena that was and is Friends. That said, to those who watched it as teenagers or young adults during the original run, there probably isn't going to be anything new covered on the page, though it's a nice nostalgic reminder of the climate of the 90s. The audience for this book is the millennial primarily watching the reruns or on Netflix--and that's not a bad thing at all! Much like The Golden Girls, Friends has somehow crossed over generations and p ...more

This is one of those books that you don't have to a fan, but should be familiar with Friends, but if you aren't or weren't a fan, what's the point? It's actually one of those things that looking back on it, yeah, there was more to it than you thought. I didn't start watching this show when it first came out, I was only 14 and was likely not relating to the show. In fact, I am not even sure when I made sure to watch (or record on the good ol' VCR) every week. I do know that I watched it with my 2 ...more

Thank you Netgalley for the full advanced readers copy! 3.5 stars

This was a book I didn't know I needed in my life. I also didn't realize it was nonfiction. I don't know why I thought it was going to be fiction, but either way a book about Friends is always on my radar. As a hardcore Friends fan I didn't think there was anything I didn't know about the show, but this book had lots of great facts and tid bits or information that I know can add into my useless Friends knowledge. If this is only a

How could I give this book anything but five stars? As a Friends fan from way back, I knew I would love reminiscing about my favorite characters and episodes ("they don't know that we know they know...."). What I didn't expect was the opportunity to revisit the show through an adult lens. When the show was on, I just knew that I loved it. In syndication, I just knew that I missed it. Reading the book helped me identify the 'WHY' behind my long-standing love for this show. Also, an interesting pe ...more

I loved this book.

I loved friends, yes watching them today, I do notice some sexism, but "Friends" was simply a product of the time.
This TV show did not set out to be trailblazers, lighting the way for equality. It was a show from the 90's, it was written in a language we all understood.

This book not only gives you a behind the scene look at the creation of the series, character development, and auditions. But it also talks about the cast dynamic, the way they stood together as a team during con

I love Friends. I did NOT love this book. I enjoyed the information about the cast and behind the scenes of the show, most of which is just a collection of information that can be found elsewhere, but the rest was awful. She spends so much time comparing the show/writing to today’s social issues. Friends was not a political show. People turned to it to escape the hard things in their lives. No one want to compare our favorite show to today’s MeToo movement. I wish someone else had written this b ...more

I grew up around the hype of Friends. It was a large part of my high school years. I remember Friends night at my friend Alisa's house every week. It was tradition and you didn't have to be invited. You just went. Reading this book was like reliving that time. The flow of the book was perfect. Kelsey didn't dwell on one subject too long except perhaps for the start up of the creators. Otherwise, it was engrossing, fun, emotional and everything I would expect from a book like this. I remember enj ...more

Thoroughly enjoyed this. For one, this certainly scratched the itch of learning all the deep juicy details that any Friends fanatic is looking for. Also, this discussed the series in a more critical light than I had ever viewed it before. Both strengths and weaknesses of the series were discussed. I would recommend this to any Friends fan or anyone who is interested in studying this cultural phenomenon.

This book made me want to be young (well, 39 seems young to me now) and sitting around on a Thursday night watching Friends again. I actually learned a lot about the show that I didn't know which surprised me but then I missed a lot of the last few years after we tossed our TV. I'd love to see a reunion show!

I received this as a full e book as arc from Net Galley in exchange for a honest review. I enjoyed reading it. I always liked watching Friends on tv. It was a good comedy sitcom. The characters in it were good actors. This is a good bio book about Friends.

I love the idea of "Friends" being like "comfort food." So true! And I agree that a reboot just wouldn't be the same - as Matt LeBlanc is quoted here: "you can never go back, you can only move forward."

I enjoyed this book. It gives a pretty good summary on how each main character gets his/her start leading up to their Friends roles. The author spent a bit of time focused on society and the shows main themes.

I had low expectations for this book. It’s no masterpiece, but it was a fun romp down memory lane and I enjoyed all the factoids. It made me want to rewatch several episodes after learning what was going on behind the scenes.
