"The e-novella, which will be released in July 2019 and serve as a bridge between the two trilogies, shines a spotlight on a character many readers have asked for more of: Lucy Valdez, Team Tanaka/Jupiter’s charismatic fight trainer and weapons expert (who also happens to be a vintage fashion plate and the most badass person in San Francisco without superpowers)."

Unsung Heroine is fresh, fun, and fast-paced. It has all the quirky action I’ve come to expect from Sarah Kuhn’s Heroine Complex series plus a romance that will make you smile and sigh.

Lucy may not have superpowers, but that doesn’t stop her from being one of the most fearsome fighters in all of San Francisco. Lucy is a fantastic heroine. She’s vibrant, quick-thinking, caring, tough, has a fun sense of fashion, and she’s a local karaoke star. Beneath all of that,

Recently I keep finding myself reading these books involving women-loving-women story-lines by authors who do not normally write such. There was that historical/mystery (Proper English), and that legal slice of life one (Conscious Bias), and . . . others. And now here I find myself reading one in the fantasy realm, this time by an author I’ve read before (well, I’ve read other w/w books by authors who’ve I read before but who didn’t normally write w/w books, but that ‘now here’ refers to recentl ...more

Unsung Heroine, by author Sarah Kuhn, is the bridge between the authors first trilogy called Heroine Complex, and a new trilogy coming soon! This new installment follows personal superhero trainer Lucy Valdez and friends Aveda Jupiter and Bea and Evie Tanaka as they combat a new supernatural threat. Lucy Valdez is many things: fight trainer, bodyguard, and weapons expert to super-heroines. She's also a fabulous vintage f

I have been reading but not reviewing Sarah Kuhn’s Heroine Complex series. I was very happy to get an ARC of Unsung Heroine from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. At some point I will review the three previous books – Heroine Complex, Heroine Worship, and Heroine’s Journey. I will say now that they are fun books, and you should definitely read them before picking up this novella.

Unsung Heroine focuses on Lucy Valdez, the bodyguard with no superpowers, but awesome fighting skills, a kil

I adore the Heroine Worship series, and I was so excited to hear about the next three books and the novella that connects them. Then I heard Unsung Heroine had a f/f relationship and I was even more eager to read it. Unsung Heroine was an exciting read with so many great female characters.

Unfortunately, it's been a minute since I've read the first three books, so my memory of these events are a little fuzzy. However, I still loved returning to this world with these amazin

Back in August 2018 (my, how time flies) I read and very much enjoyed the Heroine Complex trilogy, a series of romantic, paranormal fantasy books featuring superheroes in an alternate version of San Francisco. It seems Sarah Kuhn is going to be writing a second trilogy and this novella is a bridge between them, as well as giving readers more background and time with Lucy, Aveda Jupiter and Evie Tanaka's personal trainer and bodyguard. There are cameo appearances from Aveda and Evie, as well as t ...more

Cute and bubbly even though it manages to discuss baring yourself in both friend and romantic relationships, past traumas, and some of the more twisty turns of Lucy’s thought patterns. A fun read if a bit bizarre with the back and forth in time. Cute romance but needed more of on-page time.

3.5/5 stars — a cute novella full of Buffy-style humor and supernatural butt-kicking

Unsung Heroine is billed as a bridge between the Heroine Complex trilogy and an upcoming trilogy in the same world that will also be written by Sarah Kuhn. I'd like to emphasize the 'bridge' aspect, because I attempted to use this novella as an entry point into the series in anticipation of the new trilogy with very mixed results. (That was my bad; I did my best to keep my initial disorientation with the characte

Unsung Heroine is the epitome of a great time, matching down-to-earth characters with larger-than-life scenarios to hilarious effect. This isn’t your typical superhero team fighting evil demons who threaten the world with extinction. This is a team of deeply connected friends working their hardest to defeat demons that manifest in the most absurd ways. You’ll laugh your ass off as you read the intense fight scenes, trying to decide which is more terrifying: a possessed microphone cord intent on ...more

Okay, this was cute and absolutely funny. Did I mention cute?

This is a novella in the series and follows personal trainer, jack-of-all-trades Lucy Valdez and her wife Rose Rorick. We get a prologue of our couple, then their backstory of how they came to be said couple. This is essentially what Unsung Heroine is about but add in a serious dose of karaoke, rogue demons who seemingly don't like singing....
and a cast of hilariously kooky characters.

Reading how Lucy who kinda-sorta fought her feeling

I think this series will have some fans, and deservedly so, but I am not going to be one of them. I keep searching for fast-paced action/adventure stories starring kick-ass women, but this and similar others (/The frame-up/, /The private life of Jane Maxwell/, etc.) feel like we're collectively still stumbling and toddling, trying to figure out what a strong woman looks like if she doesn't look like a straight-laced bitch. Sorry for the sidetrack.

This novella is part of a series, but you don't h

If you’re a fan of the “Heroine Complex” trilogy, then I’m sure you’ll fall right in with this universe. It’s fascinating to follow this particular story from not any of the Tanakas or the powerful Aveda Jupiter, but rather from their trainer that we’ve only gotten to know only a little bit about.

This short read really touches on the subject of having self-imposed walls up that keep you from going after what you want. That is probably something you wouldn’t expect out of the fabulous Lucy Valdez

I adore this series, and getting a novella from Lucy’s point of view is an absolute treat! Lucy is a delight of a character, a badass high femme, WOC, weapons expert, karaoke star and bodyguard, who never wears pants and always date casually, leaving a string of well satisfied but wistful ladies in her wake. She takes care of everyone around her, but doesn’t let anyone in past her love of singing and her appreciation for the comforts of British detective shows.

In this novella, we get to learn w

Unsung Heroine by Sarah Kuhn is a novella that is supposed to act as a bridge between her first trilogy and her upcoming one.
This novella is about Lucy Valdez, karaoke queen and badass bodyguard/fight trainer for a superhero duo. This quick, action packed read follows her being her amazing unpowered self as she saves the day during a karaoke competition, gets the girl, and becomes more aware

This was such a delight to read! Despite it's rocky start, where the story keeps jumping back and forth in time, once it gets going, it's wonderful.
Fun, quirky without being unbearably so, with a relatable heroine who keeps running away from her problems, and an absolutely swoony love interest detective, I ended up falling in love and was even shedding some tears by the end. This was maybe the first time a book I wasn't really into for the first 30ish% turned around so spectacularly it's immedi

The time has come. It's time for Lucy to get her own story and Sarah Kuhn does a fantastic job in this novella. Lucy is the only member of the Jupiter/Tanaka Ltd superheroine team that doesn't have any supernatural ability. Lucy's story is more than just a sidekick story. It's a journey of Lucy becoming not just another member of a superhero team, but becoming a fleshed out story full of hope, love, and karaoke.

Holy shit, I am obsessed. This is almost everything I love in a book. 😍

don't ask why i read #3.5 before reading the actual trilogy, i think i just saw the novella on sale and thought it would be good to see if i liked Kuhn's writing before getting a full book?? idk, i forget my reasoning. but needless to say, halfway through this, i ordered the trilogy and i am STOKED for it to get here.

Best one yet

Ok. Now I need more Rose and Lucy. Lots more. And Celine. Can we get one from Rose's pov?
This was just the kind of warm fuzzy pick me up I needed today. Unfortunately these books always seem to make me hungry and I have no petit fours. Other than that wonderful and five stars!

It's good. I love the karaoke, and I love the Lucy/Rose relationship. The time shifts just confused me in terms of trying to figure out where it fit within the rest of the series, and the big battle didn't seem quite as well-developed as the other books. Possibly because it's a novella and not a full-length novel, but the problem felt almost too easy to solve?

This is just pure joy for me. This series makes me smile every page. The characters are so full and well defined. They are all so perfect. And when good things happen I cheer. I actually get up and cheer while reading these. No exaggeration. Thank you Sarah Kuhn for so many smiles.

Fun

This was a quick fun read with lesbian romance, karaoke battles, demon microphones and learning to deal with feelings. If you like the other books in this series then this is a must read.

Rounding up from 3.5. This was a fun story with a cute romance, but the flashback structure didn't quite work for me. Still, I'm always happy to spend time in this world and with these characters. Looking forward to the next trilogy!

*I received a digital copy of this book from NetGelley in exchange for an honest review*

Since last year, I have been an avid fan of Kuhn's Heroine Complex series. This novella is set before Heroine's Journey, and follows Lucy Valdez, badass bodyguard to a superheroine duo in San Francisco. This little gem packs all the usual demon fighting, mystery, and food as the other installments that I love! I enjoyed hearing Lucy's voice a bit more, since she's a bit more of a background character in previ
