Milton Davis is owner of MVmedia, LLC , a small publishing company specializing in Science Fiction, Fantasy and Sword and Soul. MVmedia’s mission is to provide speculative fiction books that represent people of color in a positive manner. Milton is the author of eight novels; his most recent The Woman of the Woods and Amber and the Hidden City. Every writerly convention should handle their souvenir book like this – a functional anthology that fits comfortably on a shelf.

This is an enjoyable read and a fantastic sampler of the work of the convention participants. “Malaika Descending” is my favorite of the batch with a wonderful bit of dark magical realism by Sheree Renée Thomas about family members and all the baggage that comes with them passing. The voice of this one is excellent. “Southern Comfort” by Valjeanne Jeffers paints a vivid portrait of a haunted family. “Twice, at Once, Separated” by Linda D. Addison was a delightful afrofuturist perspective on seed ships and on family. There are also a healthy number of fun dark urban fantasy stories.
