I really wanted to enjoy this book. I loved the premise. The blurb was great. But I just couldn't get into it. The writing felt ham-handed and juvenile, and the editing was really poor - both things that a good editor would fix, and unfortunately what this story needed to take it from what felt like an amateur first draft to a polished final published manuscript. Hope to see more polish from this author in the future as her stories could be great with the right editor to help make them shine.

*I read Book 1 & 2 back to back so this is a review for both*

(I’ve seen a lot of reviews for both books claiming that a good editor would help a lot. I don’t know if I had final versions or ARCs but there were a lot of mispellings and grammar issues. As a regular reader of review copies though, this kind of thing doesn’t really affect me but I wanted to put this out there as a warning to others who may be a little more discerning :) )

There are authors that write characters that could be str

When Morris finally gets up enough nerve to ask out Mellie, it sets off a chain reaction that neither saw coming. They've been circling around each other for months, unknown to the other, but Marc, Mellie's sister and Morris' SWAT partner, finally arranges for Morris to come over to his house so he can get her alone for a second in order for him to finally make his move.

Mellie has been crushing on her obnoxious brother's partner for months now, but she turns into a brain dead idiot around him,

When I saw this book, the title and the cover attracted me straightway. It has a very Lani Lynn Vale feel to it (and I love Lani Lynn Vale). When I read the blurb I was hooked. Who does not want to read about awkward shy girls and badass SWAT boys.

I loved Mellie’s initial awkwardness around Morris. She has some real moments when you just want to curl up and hide your face in embarrassment for her but as her character and story develops, you get to see this introverted, awkward women come alive i

This book and this author show so much promise!

Mellie has had a crush on Morris since she first met him through her brother. Morris, too, has had a crush on Mellie since first meeting her. Once they come together, they find that they're better together. I loved Morris' protectiveness over Mellie, and I loved Mellie's sarcastic wit.

There were a lot of good things about this book. The plot/storyline was really good. The author did a good job of keeping me guessing as to who was trying to
Mellie, a coffee owner, has a crush on Morris, her brother's SWAT partner.

Morris is a SWAT officer. He is muscular, has tattoos, very nice full kissable lips and he has a crush on Mellie.

I love the fact that they both like each other but can't seem to admit it to each other. Everyone else around them can see that they are interested in each other and that they will eventually end up together. It isn't until Mellie's brother, Marc, invites Morris over to their house that they start going out and

This book was so much fun to read! I busted out laughing so many times and most of it was when Morris was with his friends. Granted they've known each other for awhile but they cracked me up! Mellie fit in perfectly and had them laughing so hard they were crying! I love her fire and her passion but man is she dense at times. Things just went over her head so many times. I loved how every one knew but them two and basically pushed them together. Morris and Mellie are hilarious together. Morris is ...more

Absolutely marvellous characterizations!

A whimsical tale. The inner dialogue of both the main male and female characters is hilarious … likely because it is so close to real life of what we all do in these situations. The kibitzing of the main male character and all his male team mates shows a great camaraderie and support of one another. The relationship between the main female character and her best friend is also full of repartee; along with her loving relationship with her brother. There is

This has been one of the most amusing pieces I have read, and I can't wait to read more into this series. Actually, I am looking forward to reading the follow-up as I find Damon to be one of the most intriguing members of this group of comedic friends. I totally dig their camaraderie, and knowing that they're so close-knit makes it so much titillating! In this first selection, we have Melanie/Mellie and Morris who are both totally into each other but are afraid to approach one another considerin ...more

Mel cannot act normally around the guy she’s interested in, she clams up and does nothing but daydream and stare. Morris isn’t any better at interacting with Mel, especially with him working with her brother on the police swat team after the special forces.

Finally after some push from Morris’s team and her brother he makes a move. Too bad it’s going to come with a cop stalker who turns into a Mel stalker.

This book shares the journey of getting their HEA and dealing with psychos.

This was enjoyable read. Mellie has fallen hard for her brother Marc's SWAT teammate Morris. Morris likewise has fallen for Mellie. When they get together, the chemistry between leaps out at you. Much of the book follows the pair as their relationship develops, with Mellie bumbling her way along, which only serves to make Morris love her all the more. There is however the issue of who is sending Mellie black roses. Mellie knows it's not Morris or her brother Marc, she doesn't even like roses and ...more

Good story with potential for the rest of the series

I would’ve given this book four stars, if not for the multitude of editing issues. Incorrect words (think “your” instead of “you’re”), punctuation missing or existing where it shouldn’t, and outright tense changes within a chapter really took away from my ability to throughly enjoy the story.

Outside of the desperate need for a better editor, this was a pretty good book. Mel and Morris have awkwardly danced around each other for months and fina

Good story and series potential but some struggles

I have to start off saying this book had some great potential with story line and characters. Mellie is kind of a hot mess that you love. She can be so awkward but it just makes you chuckle. Morris is simply swoon worthy!

The reason I am giving 3 stars is for a few reason. #1 there are some serious plot holes. The story seems to jump around quite a bit, but often leaving out some key pieces. I won’t go into spoilers but some huge holes towards th

Mellie is a coffee shop owner who's brother is on a SWAT team. His coworkers are hot but Mel has a major crush on one in particular - Morris. Morris has had his eye on Mel for a while but thinks her brother won't like it if they get together. Finally her brother Marc gets onto Morris for taking so long to make his move. He finally does and they start dating. The interaction between her and her brother Marc is hilarious but after a while it got on my nerves. I get it that Mel is tough but it was ...more

Surrender to You (SAPD SWAT Series Book 1) by Nikki Mays.

This is a new author to me but just reading the blurbs about this book, I knew that I had to read this book!!!
Mellie and Morris have been infatuated with each other from afar for quite a while. When he finally gets up the nerve to ask her out, after the guys called him out on his crush on her, they are pretty much inseparable. The chemistry between these characters is totally off the charts.

I enjoyed this story. It has some drama, a few surprises and quite a few laugh out loud moments.
Mellie is likable fun and sassy. She is a perfect type of heroine who bags herself an alpha hot guy but doesn't roll over and become a doormat for him.
Morris is sexy on a stick with a side of yum. He is kind caring but oh so very manly.
This is a great start to what I hope will be an excellent series..

So good - one of my top books of the year 😍

I received a free copy of this book however all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
I really don't know where to start gushing about this book! It is so well written and has a fantastic storyline. I like romantic novels that have more than just the love story going on and this one certainly does. Whilst the sex scenes scorch up the pages and the love story is truly amazing, it also had a major drama unfolding including murder, kidnap and who dunnits?

I have not really done any book reviews before, but I really like the promise of this series. I know there will be reviewers that will not be able to get past the grammar issues in this book. But everyone else that can this was a fun book read it and enjoy it like I did.

I really liked this book, and will read the others in this series. The main characters are fun and sexy, with enough detail on the supporting ones that I look forward to reading about them in future books.

WOW!!! I loved this book. I’d give it 5+ stars if I could. The story was very well written, it flowed logically and had me hooked from beginning to end. Of course, there was a major twist that had me on the edge of my seat until it was resolved. The characters were wonderful and I loved each and every one of them. The interactions between them had me laughing, crying and even angry. Nikki Mays writing style easily allowed me to transfer her words into pictures, in fact it was almost like I was w ...more

If you have a big brother or sister that you love, but still act like children when you get together, this book is for you. I laughed out loud because many times my brother and I act exactly like Marc and Mel. I loved how crazy Mel could get and Morris accepting and loving her for being outrageous. The supposedly big bad SWAT guys weren't exactly alpha material, but they did add to the humor. Look forward to reading more from Nikki Mays. Morris and Mellie...I LOVED this book. These are characters that are written as real...the get nervous around each other and had to have the help and teasing of their friends to finally get together. Both are completely oblivious to the interest they both share until Morris finally gains the courage ask her out. Morris and Mellie are quite the interesting couple. They make light of their feelings because they don't know how to communicate them to each other. After getting teased by his fellow officers he gets it in gear. He finally gets Mellie to admit her feels for him and things are looking up. Everyone is happy with them being a couple and is out to keep them apart by any means necessary. Can Morris keep Mellie out of danger until they find out who it is? This book flows so well I can believe that it is a debut book from a very talented author There is plenty of suspense and draa that keeps you enthralled in the story but there is also enough humour and banter to make it dangerous to read in a public place.

Mollie and Morris had a great relationship that developed so well throughout the story and the twists and turns I didn't always see coming which is always a great thing
