I always keep good book to start the new year with this is creepy horror that by first description on page one has you wanting to read more. I don't often judge book by its cover but Sore one of my friends on here was reading it, oh whats that? What creepy horror cover, that sounds good. This book of two parts Victor in 1860s in an orphaning a nasty horrible murdering child who is crazy we can guess who he grows up to be. This book about Jolly old Jack. The 2nd part is set now around Alice who is just paying her rent, she at weekends works for her landlord in his antique shop, she collects old Victorian painting that are worthless but One day she finds small pictures of a man in top hat murdering a woman in an alley. She takes it home. Who painted it? Why did do it? Worst of all did do it from real life? Alice oh Alice she going to go down her own 'rabbit hole' to hell. As we move on through Victor's life from 1860s to 1875 we see the real dark filthy real poverty side of Victorian London the dark alleys, gin dens & Victor killing females. We also see Alice trapped with a painting that cannot be destroyed no matter how hard she tries it just comes back, it changes too showing different ways to kill. For Alice bad turns to worse she gets a crazy blind date boyfriend who is a stalker whats he called? Oddly Victor or Jack to his friends!
I loved this book. I've read a few other books by this author so I knew this one should be good too, and I wasn't disappointed. I believe it is the 130th anniversary of Jack The Ripper this year. I think this is based on the murders that happened in 1888. The book does contain many elements of sex and gore which are necessary for the story to be told. Most Jack The Ripper stories only write about Jack The Ripper as an adult. Roger David Francis has started at the beginning and reveals what Jack The Ripper may have been like as a boy. I suppose it is historical fiction/horror, but there is also a futuristic aspect to the story too. All in all I really enjoyed it and feel it is worthy of all five stars.
A friend of mine recommended this to me. I love how the character is explored. The author takes you on a journey and explores the background of the character in a logical and exciting manner. Nobody knows who the Ripper is, so whose to say this isn't him? Definitely not for the feint heart, but one I would definitely say is worth the time to read. Without giving it away the story has a fascinating twist at the end.
Alice finds a Victorian painting and her quiet, yet comfortable, life is suddenly changed. Mr. Francis skillfully blends past and present into a twisting horror. Absolutely worth the read!
