Nice. I liked the parade of critters from around the world and the unexpected ending.
There weren't any notes about the author or artist which was disappointing, because learning about the creation of art fascinates me. But there were original endpapers.
Si pudo dormir o no, esa cuestión debes averiguarlo tú estimada lectora o lector.
I read this book to my 5 year old daughter, and thought it was excellent. One of the reasons I liked it so much was it loosely reminded me of The Little Red Hen. The story line was different, but the lesson to take away is the fact that you need to do work to take care of yourself. And if you are busy working to take care of yourself during the day, you will actually be tired at night.
When Queen Panda can’t sleep, none of her servants sleep either. After the Queen hasn’t slept for days, her servants send out a decree that anyone who can make the Queen fall asleep will win a bag of Chinese pearls. Many came to attempt to make the Queen sleep. She tried counting sleep from Mongolia, heard dull stories, listened to a lullaby from Paris. She swayed in a Kenyan hammock, was massaged with a branch from Australia, but nothing worked. Finally, someone came and yawned big, putting everyone else to sleep, except the Queen. With all of her servants fast asleep though, she had to cook her own meal and do other chores. Soon her eyes her drooping and she got sleepy!
This new twist on a traditional story where people are set a royal challenge has animals from around the world vying to put the Queen to sleep. With nods to a variety of cultures, the story is set in China with a very red-eyed panda as queen. The story sticks to the traditional format until the ending where the queen solves her own problem by getting busy and tired.
The illustrations have a folktale flatness to them that works well with the story. They have all sorts of animals in them from foxes to storks to cats and toads. The images use an interesting color palette of greens, oranges, and yellows.
A bedtime story that will hopefully have children snoring long before the Queen does. Appropriate for ages 3-5.

Queen Panda has not slept in days and everyone is exhausted from serving her. The advisor sends out a decree that there will be a reward for anyone who can make the queen sleep. Who will be able to find a cure for the queen?
A fun story that brought animals from around the world with different sleep solutions. The animal characters and illustrations were well done and very colorful. I enjoyed after all the typical sleep solutions failed the surprise ending of what made the queen finally fall asleep. Children will enjoy and anticipate trying to figure out how the queen will finally close those eyes.
Spanish author, Susanna Isern, and illustrator, Mariana Ruiz Johnson, have written a picture book for the younger reader. Queen Panda has not been able to sleep for days and her servants cannot think of what to do. They are exhausted as well! Animal experts from all over the world come to the palace to try to put the queen to sleep. Nothing works until...read this delightful, colorful story to find out! The moral of this story: sometimes doing physical work causes exhaustion! Ages 4-9 will love the bright illustrations that compliment the words!
The Queen can't sleep so everyone has to stay up and work for her. Her staff puts out a plea for someone to come and help the Queen get some rest. Visitors come from all over the world but nothing works. Finally, one solution puts everyone else to sleep so the Queen has to do the work herself. That does the trick and she's able to sleep after a day of hard work. Use to talk about staying active and doing jobs to help our body relax and rest at the end of the day.
Love the multicultural animals and their many attempts at putting the wide-awake queen to sleep. But more than that, I love that she finally went to sleep when she had to put in a hard day's work herself!
This book teaches a valuable lesson that sleep comes after a hard day's rest. The Queen Panda hasn't slept in days. That's always a difficult topic for me to read about. Fun pictures, though. Definitely made me yawn and get sleepy.
I very much beamed at the art of this book. The endpapers get a star of their very own. I esteem the folksy storytelling style. Worldwide visitors are a fun addition, and the panda in the bath is my favorite illustration of it all.
A queen can not sleep and is keeping all her workers awake with her demands. Can she ever be lulled to sleep? Cute endinga nd nice lessons. Elementary and up
