This book is a sad, very, very sad story about one girl, Matilda, who lived in hardships all her life. Once she finds her happiness, she will also find her greatest sorrow. Once you think Matilda will have a happy life after all, you will get knocked on the ground once again. Maybe someone else will have that happy ending when Matilda couldn't.

Ama 2. bölümden itibaren kitap resmen beni kendine esir e ...more

I enjoyed it soooo much. I loved it so much I am afraid I can't write a review of this book.
I loved everything. Every little part, every conversation, every diary. I can't pick just one out of all these great and magnificent things.
I still don't know how did McKinley got such idea. It is so different from everything I have ever read.
And I guess this is it, because I can't go on talking al day long about how much this book surprised me in a good way. :)

This novel - I believe it is her first - was the first I ever read by Tamara McKinley. I picked it up at the flea market, and really didn't think it would be more than a quick read. I was mistaken: it turned out to be a very enjoyable novel, with interesting plot turns.
Tamara McKinley takes us back through time, first to Matilda Thomas in the 1930s. Matilda lives in the Australian outback with her father on the sheep station Churinga - the connecting element between her story and that of Jenny, ...more

This book was great ,but it is also a very tragic, sad story and shocking at the same time it is a story about Two women who are trying to stay strong no matter how life was cruel to them The story line is gripping and powerful The characters seem so real that both Sydney and the Outback are vividly described it will bring tears to your eyes from beginning to the end...

Loved it so much I couldn't put it down. It's been a little while since I've read a Tamara McKinley book and every time I do I'm reminded why I love her stories so much. Her vivid descriptions of the Australian Outback and the harshness of life out there is just amazing - she captures everything perfectly and implants it into your imagination.

Very good book recommended to me by my mother. However, it had a critical flaw that nagged at me throughout. Supposedly this young woman lost not only her husband but also her baby in an accident. However, the author rarely reveals her grief, and even then only for her husband. Almost no mention is made of how the baby’s loss affects her. It was so noticeable to me I found myself irritated with the author.

I could not put it down! I really enjoyed the story within the story which was told in an easy straightforward manner. Looking back, the narrative was full of clues. I also was fascinated with the information about the Australian outback, as well as the customs of the native dwellers. Excellent novel. I was actually hoping there was a sequel!

I've had this book on my bookshelf at home for years, preferring to read books on my ereader, but I'm glad commonsense crept in and I finally read it! What a fantastic story! Tamara McKinley never fails to write a good story. Loved the character development in both parallel times, but Matilda herself was so formidable, my heart wept for her and the hardships this world had thrown at her. I read hundreds of books, but rarely do I feel that ongoing attachment to a character after the book is finis

This book didn't disappoint from start to end. Wonderfully descriptive of the Australian terrain, you were transported to the fields of sugar canes, - you could also smell the sweet sickly pungent aroma.
Jenny' life is turned upside down when her husband and son suddenly die.
She inherits an outback ranch and so it begins.
The story of hostility, jealousy, the brutal weather and the beauty that it brings.
Jenny will learn Matilda's story through diaries she left behind.

Sehr lesenswert!

TAMARA MCKINLEY was born in Launceston, Tasmania, and was forced to come to England with her grandmother to finish her education at an all girls’ boarding school in Sussex. Her childhood experiences and the enduring memories of her amazing grandmother and two extraordinary great-aunts, form the back-bone of her novels which are coloured with the red, green and gold of her beloved Australia.
