The government used us to improve the human genome through gene modification, and controlled us through a computer AI placed in our brains. Earth was dying and they needed the humans to be stronger, faster, and harder to kill while traveling through space in their search for a new home. They were successful, they made us stronger, faster, and harder to kill. Then they took it even further when an alien species called the Koci was shot down right before the last exodus ships were to leave earth. They used the Alien DNA to changes us even further. We are now part Koci and part human, a hybrid. We sought our freedom from being controlled by the government only to find ourselves in the hands of pirates when we awoke from cryo-stasis in search of that new home. We are still not free, but we will be. Our goal is freedom, to find a new home, and explore this new galaxy we find ourselves in. Our mission is to become the pirates bane. Will it be easy? Probably not. Will we give up? Never!
This sci-fi romance packs a huge punch and picks up where the first book left off. I was a bit in awe of the level of world building and the complex nature of the various alien hybrids. The detail is phenomenal and extensive but gives a clear picture in the reader's mind. There's so much brutality in this story but I loved the various characters and the will to keep moving forward despite their hardships and abuse. It's a rough story at times and graphic but really kept me riveted towards the end. Really curious to see how Sloan and her friends handle the next set of obstacles.
A thoroughly intriguing science fiction story!

I loved book one in this series so I was eager to read the second book. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. A lot of book one took place inside of Sloan's mind. This book introduced a lot more external interaction and new characters. My favorite thing about this author is her imagination. I don't know how she comes up with these things! The worlds she creates are so detailed and fantastic. Her descriptions of the aliens and the hybrids are awesome. Their different abilities, fascinating. I can just imagine the hours that went into creating them. I kept thinking that I could picture this being a movie. This book leaves you with quite a cliffhanger so be prepared to jump right into the third book.
The first book is really boring and gross. We get zero character development and very little introduction other than accents. There is no destination between characters personality wise, and so we end up with no reason who would end up with whom. At best, we get a dry Sci-Fi with zero emotion. I don't think this should be considered a romance. I have a lot of dislikes and criticism, more so than mentioned, but I doubt that is necessary. The story just doesn't flow.
However, the plot is original, and I do enjoy a good Sci-fi story line, I plan to continue as new books come out.
Getting to read the next chapter of Sloan and the others story was awesome. I really like how it picked up where book 1 left off so are not missing anything if you read book 1, if you haven't I would before reading this one. The descriptions are phenomenal and seeing what Sloan's group goes through at the hands of the pirates and what they do in response. I can't wait to see how their plan will come together when they get to the gladiator games. The strength of this group, emotionally and physically is astronomical. This one of the very few Sci-fi series that I follow and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!
So I really wanted to like this series. I made it through the first book with a little bit of skimming, but I was liking the idea of the story and wanted to see where the author would take it. OMG I was losing my mind on the second. So much over explaining and word vomiting and repeating and really cheesy lines. I just wasn’t feeling the characters at all. At 36% I had already had to skim half of it and I finally just gave up. I’m not sure how this got over 4 stars. I have read some really phenomenal books with the same rating, it just blows my mind.
The last two earth ships get captured by space pirates. Each ship carried 150 thousand people on board. Two years after only around 4 thousand are left still sleeping, every other person has been sold as gladiator, labour or sex slave. Then they wake up the MC and the story starts to get really fast, they plan, they execute but they still end up captured. So they plan again. You will experience the same kind of urgency the characters in the book feel and you will get frustrated, mad, and desperate. Wonderful story!
I found book 2 to be a nice follow up for book one. The author has done a great job of building a world and characters. I felt as though Sloan was a real person and not a character of fiction. It was a bit heartbreaking to read about their hellish experiences, but they fit well into the story line. It left me wanting to know what happens to the hybrids. Lots of mysteries still to be solved! I'm eager for the next book.
This books plot is what really keeps bringing me back but I can't help that it's so badly written. There's pages and pages of mental rambling and babling and this author hasn't figured out the show me not tell me part of the story. Nothing happens in this book until the last 10 percent. The Spanish portions are again, terrible. It looks like some bad Google translate.
I'm really on the fence a out this series and hope it gets better
It seems to me like they make alot of trou le for themselves. Oh I'm going to get groped and raped because I'm not going to take my collar off, I can't take on this base of pirates even though most of my teams are special forces and were augmented. I mean at the end of the first book the series would have finished if they had taken the ship before they even left. Even the alien would be alive still.
This author managed to create an excellent story that continued to have me riveted. She managed to have so many characters but kept the story driven and centralized. The main goal isn’t love but survival and how it brings people together as a family. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one. Well done.
Absolutely freaking loved this series. If you're read kurtherian gambit it's similar but darker and added romance. The tenacity of the kittie hybrids and changelings was just impressive the say the least. That karma always comes back around and it was sweet as apple pie. Can't wait to read more. JL
If you like a story with a strong, intelligent female leads, you’ll enjoy Sloan, her friends Izzy, Regina and Eina, and the males who love them. Much needs to be learned and set in place before they can free themselves and the other humans from slavery. Good thing Sloan has awesome programming and hacking skills, too! Enjoy!
The book was interesting and I will happily read the next book but the book is not a RH. I'm not saying anything bad about the story but being with two guys is a three way. Can wait to see where the team go next
This book took you on a journey. Sloan has grown in her powers and her new figure is awesome. Can’t wait for the next book. This kept me on the edge of my seat.
This series is pretty dark. It’s about genetic modifications done without consent, the death of our world and being sold in slavery in another galaxy. However it is also filled with the ingenuity and intellect of human hybrids who have taken every kind of indignity and come out fighting for their freedom, working together to form a strong and cohesive unit.
It’s an inspiring story, that has a cliff hanger, but it isn’t a tear your nails out with your teeth kind of cliff hanger. It’s a ‘I really want to know what happens next’ kind of ending, but it won’t drive you nuts.
A really interesting story and I look forward to reading the next chapter.
