Broken Crayons Still Color 2: Based on a True Story

Rate this book
When you squeeze a water balloon, as long as you don't burst it, the water simply goes to a different part of the balloon. Addictive personalities are similar. If a person breaks an addiction, they then have to find something else to transfer their energy towards. With Ashlon's help, Devin has made major strides to change his life in order to be a better man. He gives up alcohol and drug addiction, but is now facing the toughest battles he's ever had to forgiveness and gambling. Coming from the streets, he only understood that penalties existed for those who offended him. But you can't walk with God and carry the work of the devil, and how can you ask for forgiveness from God when you yourself can't forgive those that have hurt you? Some people saw gambling as a harmless venture, they saw a gambler win big or lose big, but never saw the psychological side effects to winning and losing money at such a rapid pace. Devin gets the wake-up call of a life time, forcing him to embark on a dramatic journey towards finding and getting to know God on a level that he'd never known him before. A deep, emotional love story that is sure to make you feel every single emotion that exists. The sequel to the best-selling love story, "Broken Crayons Still Color" is a passionate drama that wins readers over one page at a time. One of the most important stories of the year with over 1,000 Amazon customer reviews in 5 months, this is a must-read for fans of powerful award-winning stories as well as members of Oprah's Book Club.

This 2nd part was just as profound as the previous. Storyline caused a plethora of emotions as Devin's trials & tribulations continued. God's grace was definitely seen. Wonderful story I encourage all to read.

Broken Crayons Still Color 2
I really didn't expect this book to be better than the first. I thought the author would never be able to pull it off. Well ummm... He showed me! It was so many jewels dropped! And it pointed some things that I needed to change within myself.
Devin disappointed me as much as he did wife. He let his desperation cloud his thinking. I really had big hopes for him and thought he overcame the time in his life for making poor decisions, evidently not.
OG should have stayed where he was. He came back into his sons life and just created more problems when Devin was doing just fine. When he was on the road to getting his life all the way on track, OG created problems that took Devin on a downward spiral.

Amazing!!!!

This book was so filled with Depth, Pain and Enlightenment. A testimony of how powerful and enduring love is. Devin truly faced the worst thing a person can face. His own mistakes and himself. I truly truly enjoyed this series and thank you for opening up yourself to the masses.

Wow.... This book really opened some doors in my life that I had boarded up. I want to take the time to thank you, David for your faithfulness. We all have obstacles in our life that we need to overcome. I went to church today praying for you, my family, and other authors. God is in the healing business and it is a process. Continue to trust God to see you through. I received my breakthrough today because of Broken Crayons Still Color. Love you David and I will continue to pray for you.

Thank you Mr. Weaver . . .

David, you clearly outdone yourself with Broken Crayons Still Color (1&2). Thank you for sharing a piece of your life with us your readers. I don't think you realize how many lives you have changed just simply by them picking up your book and turning those pages of your life. Keep pushing forward, the readers may leave you but God never will. As an African American you have help open our eyes to the reality of depression. It's real! Thank for stepping out on Faith and not just throwing words into this, you put your heart and soul into this book. Blessings to you!

What happened to Devin's Mom

Pretty good read. However, I was wondering why Devin's mother was never mentioned. I was sure Weaver would elaborate on Devin's mom & dad since he was released from prison. That was a disappointment. I kept waiting for it and it never came. OG went from being a Boss in prison to something like a simp in the free world. I understand he wanted to please his son but it was weird. His whole relationship with Barbee would have made more since to me if we were told what happened with Mom. Weren't they supposed to still be in love and she was his 1st love and now Barbee is the woman of his dreams. Other than that it was a cool read.

Great topics!

The overall book was great! I really would have loved to get more details of Devin's healing and his life after his spiritual growth. I wanted to see his life after finally giving his life to Christ and how his role as husband and father was changed.

Devin...

I was so distraught that Devin would order a hit on the rapper. I really thought he was changed completely. But he is of flesh. So no judgement here. He had to Dang near lose everything in order to realize it wasn't worth losing his family the street life had to go.
Tears meant replacement. It was the flush of pain, weakness, and hurt with the presence of power. It was the process of washing away the difficult moments so that you could take in the better frames.
David Weaver u are truly amazing and blessed beyond belief. He doesn't put more on us than we can bear, but he does send us through things to realize what we have and that it can just as easily be taken as fast as it was given. As for addictions we all have our vices but we have to be strong in the faith of God to overcome them, and we also have to WANT TO CHANGE. It starts within! I pray that you pray that you are more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ and the Devil cannot separate you from the Almighty God!
1Peter5:10 And the GOD of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

Romans 5:3-5 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4. perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5. And hope does not put to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Beautifully, brutally honest sequel

I finished the first book in this series, left a review, and promptly downloaded the next. The first book looked like a HEA, complete with a family reunion, flashy jewelry, and success in many ways; it left me wondering what could happen next.

Poor choices, addictions, anger, and a heavy dose of love for God mixed in made this an engrossing read. The writing and language seem smoother and more mellow than in the first book, yet still realistic and too believable. The story continues with familiar characters and adds a few new faces.

I'm curious if the characters will go further to a book 3, yet hope the demons the author confesses to in his Author's Notes leave him, to not continue It as another based on another true story.

Among the addictions faced in this book is drugs, a description of first time heavy drug use below:

"It was like a ghost climbed inside of you and sprinkled Hennessy on my soul, relaxing me on a level I'd never felt before. I suddenly understood how she had so much energy, because I had it as well. I felt as if I could jump over a car, or stay awake for the next week straight with no sleep. I felt an internal tingle that stretched from the inside of my head all the way down to my toes. It was the psychological equivalent of the night before Christmas, except if you pause that moment for the entire duration while under the influence of the powerful drug."

To the author, thank you for sharing your struggle in your writing. I hope you find your peace.

Depression is real.

First of, this 2nd book was very good. I have been pulling for Devin and Ashlon the entire time. Barber was bad news from the beginning and Terrance was no match for her. He went along with her request and was unable to say no. Terrance wasn't use to the outside good !I've and betrayed Banny. We can all see where this is leading. Another death in prison. The girls love Devin and Ashlon and there life together. Now depression is real! Mental illness is real. Disaster is putting it on the back burner and doing nothing about it. Forgiveness is not for the other person but for oneself. To grow and move on, you must forgive. To grow one must forgive it will eat you alive. Once you say you forgive, let it go, release the baggage. Depression can eat you alive. Some times it's best to get professional help. Depression or a chemical imbalance could be monitored with medicine. Having thoughts with depression could lead to a land of no return. I offer you to trust in the Lord completely and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path! Always hold on to your Faith! When you take something to GOD leave it there. I felt like Barber was going to overcose, too much drama as issues.

Be strong through trials

The first review I gave from part one had my heart in deep pain. Part two has me reflecting on life. We all go through some sort of trials and we look for something to take it away whether it a person or thing. Those are temporary fixes, God is the only one to remove it forever. Life is a mental struggle we all have a good and bad side, when we struggle the bad side is pulling the most. Learn to edify yourself in God word. Learn through his word you are someone and your destroying yourself when those feelings of destruction come on you. We all have demons , pray, asking for strength daily. Be around positive people.. Brother keep your head up keep writing know that you're an inspiration to many. Fight those demons don't let it take you. Learn that the past trials had to happen to build who you are today. To make your the man your destined to be. To be an inspiration. Learn from your past & fight. Find a way to fight. We all need to remember God is working we just need to be mindful. Sorry for writing a book, it's just hurt to see people hurting and battling when they can just let go and hold to God

Grace of God,

Devin and Ashlon are doing great things and his father got out of jail also in is right there waiting. Terrance is so excited about being out that he forgot about the promises you made on the inside to Banny. David wWeaver really wrote this story with all the things people are experiencing in life even now, wavering outside your home, committing crimes that are going to have repercussions and just the ups and downs of weaknesses that we face in the world today. Ashlon stayed prayed up for her husband but one altercation and weekend in Vegas changes 4 lives and it will be devastating in more ways than one, Devin finally returned to his roots and found God for whom he really is and well u will read the rest!!!!

Praise Jehova 🙌🏾👏🏾🙌🏾

You are a blessing. I love you and I don’t even know. I left a review on the first book but my God. This one. This is the one that really brought me closer to God. I read a book Dear God:Hear my prayer. It spoke me but then broken crayons did too. But after broken crayons 2!!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾 that one did it for me. I’ve finally accepted my calling from god. I finally allowed him to work in my life. I want to be a prayer warrior like Ashlon. I see a lot of myself in her. I can relate to being down. Anywho. I would love to talk with you and let you know how much you really inspired me. Please email me neeneebolton@gmail.com I really hope to hear from you! God bless

Inspired

I didn’t expect to see a part two but I’m glad I did. I’m going through stuff now and I feel like I had lost my own way. I have three kids 16, 9 and 3 months. We have lost it all behind my child’s father to the point he has somewhere to lay his head but the kids and I are on our way to the family homeless shelter. I haven’t even asked God for help instead I just cried and stressed. Reading this book has helped me to realize my mistake. In order to do right by my children I need to ask god for forgiveness and help. I need to live right for my family to be right. Thank you for sharing your story.

Let Him Use You

David, I have been a supporter of yours from day 1. I would always tell you “This is just the beginning and God has so much more for you” Those words still ring true to this day. God has destined you to tell your story to the masses. This book will be the beginning of the healing process for many marriages. The process of forgiveness for many families. Be not ashamed of what God has brought through. Remember that change is good but transformation is better. Stay humble & be blessed

Wowwwww!!!!

This book was amazing we as people hold on to anger and don't realize it is what keeps us from moving forward in life... Ashlon was a great woman and she loved her husband thru it all but he first had to learn to truly love himself on order to appreciate and love back completely... Unfortunately most men loose their family and things are beyond repair before they get it... God is always forgiving and knows we will make mistakes but we have to learn from them in order to grow....

Thank you

Mr. Weaver, thank you for sharing such a non traditional story. In this book I could visualize every moment and imagine each scene. This is a subject so typical in many of our lives, yet we choose to sweep it under the rug. We do that because of the image we are trying to portray to the world. But your book is almost like a self help guide to overcoming our demons. This is one book I would suggest many read in its entirety and with an open mind. Once again, I thank you for sharing.

Wow!!!!! I can’t say that I’ve ever walked away from a 2 series not able to decide which one I liked best!!!! I have to say the way he writes really makes you feel like you’re reading about a cousin, friend, or even self at times.. So real and heartfelt..So negative but so positive...Real but still entertaining and enjoyable..It wasn’t a hard read by far because it was in “regular” terms..Still taught some life lessons and reminded the reader of some things that may have been lost along the way!!

Awesome read I enjoyed it so very much.

I chose this rating because it was so very good it was a true page turner. I didnt want to put it down. Awesome piece of writing sir. The father was another story but i guess he was trying to make up for the way he treated the son when he was a kid. But to get himself on drugs in the end really showed me how weak minded he really truly was. I will be looking for more work from you sir you are great. Stay clean and straight and continue to write at your best. Thank you sir.

Awesome

This book really went beyond words for me and touched my soul. I’ve been dealing with an incredible loss and I keep questioning everything including God. Some days I wake up and I don’t even want to. This just made me realize the spiritual battle I’m fighting and how I just need to pray and have faith. I can’t describe what this book means to me but I can say it’s given me a glimmer of hope and an ounce of fight.

Simply Amazing

I just want to start off by saying what a DOPE person and Author you are. Broken Crayons Still Color 1,2 are 2 of the best books I've read. Your books have touched me and let me know there are others out here going through similar situations as you. Your story has helped a lot of people seek help for their own addictions and demons. Thank you for being an amazing person telling your story and truths! Looking forward to more books to come.

Amazing storyline!

My first time reading anything by this author was with the first book of Broken Crayons Still Color and I am thoroughly impressed with both books. Mr. Weaver’s transparency was well received and I am truly happy that he has found some peace and comfort in his writings. I’m looking forward to reading more books by him and wish him continued success in his endeavors!
