This is my first book by Leslie wolfe and it was a great thriller mystery. Lots of great characters i love both baxter and holt, both are very interesting and complexed and their chemistry is great. One of my fave characters is anne st. Clair,I loved her personality ,so fisty and tough!! This book had me guessing til the end so many suspects and they all had a reason to kill Crystal a young exotic dancer who made the mistake in trusting some very powerful people. Crystal made the mistake also of ...more

Casino girls opening chapters really made me feel like I was in a casino in Las Vegas (I've never been) and I was sucked in right from the start. The murder victim, Crystal (Stage name) really intrigued me and I wanted to find out about her life. Normally with murder mysteries, I feel focused on who did it and why. I really liked that the victim was a mystery. She's seemed to have a good life and a kind spirit. Crystal was working hard to finish school early, so she could support her family. Cry ...more

Recommends it for: Fans of Gritty crime novels.
"as soon as people learned of my abilities, they started shunning me, as if I were a mind reader and a dangerous one at that. Couldn’t’ve been further from the truth”
― Leslie Wolfe, Casino Girl

This book was gritty as a anything. It was my first time reading anything by this author but it will not be the last.

So I do love gritty pulpy crime dramas. This one fit the bill nicely. Baxter and Holt are partners and they are trying to solve the mystery of what happened to Crystal, an exotic dancer at

She seemed peaceful, as if in her last moments her young body hadn’t agonized, desperately trying to live, to survive. Her lips were parted slightly, as if she were breathing gently while dreaming of something only she knew. Whatever her secret, she’d taken it with her.

Another great book by the talented Leslie Wolfe. An exotic dancer at a top Las Vegas casino dies one night during her dance act. She wobbles and slowly sinks to the ground. There are no wounds, she is young and healthy and there is no sign on an injection site or any other indication of how she died.

Baxter and Holt are on the case and soon ruffle feathers. There are some very wealthy and powerful people in the mix and everyone seems to be lying about something. To add to Baxter's stress Internal

I love crime/detective/legal suspense and thriller and as a CSI and Law&Order SUV and True Crime die hard fan, anything I read in most of these genres no longer surprise me. In Casino girl, the plot and crime were nothing new .... so did the twist and turn, the suspects and all but it was Baxter and Holt’s relationship and their background story that gave the investigation and the whole story a giddy excitment I couldn’t put down. Their chemistry and dynamic were so palpable and off the chart I ...more

Here's another Baxter and Holt winner from Leslie. It's fascinating stuff. One thing I wonder about: Do they really have $500,000 chips? If so, send me one for my "collection."

All I can say, Jim, Ed, Denise, Jane & Jerry, is that if you don't start this series, you're really missing out. And now there's a third book. Wowzer!

Cheers and Happy Reading, y'all!

Laura has secrets, but not for the reasons you may think. It was too difficult to talk about. How long before she will need to share it with Holt, her partner? But…first, let’s deal with the dead body.

It was, literally, Crystal’s last performance on stage.

We have two mysteries going on and they will both be solved.

We also have two damaged characters that hesitate to share their baggage, but we all know they will, sooner or later. I love Holt, after I find out how far he will go to protect his

Casino Girl is the second book in Leslie Wolfe’s Baxter and Holt series. I’ve read the first book in the series and I really recommend that you do so as well before reading this one. This series follows police detectives Laura Baxter and Jack Holt and they’re introduced as partners in the first book. Plus, some things from that book carry to this one so it’s g

I do enjoy this author's series' and so often she offers her books free of charge as well. There were a few mistakes in this one so I scored it 4.5* but I'm happy to round it up since it's the least I can do in exchange ! I don't often see her books mentioned by too many people, either, which is a real shame as they are all interesting. I still think I prefer the Tess series though I do like both Holt and Baxter as well, especially as here in England we get a bit of ownership with Baxter being a ...more

OK. OK. I'll admit it. I'm a big Leslie Wolfe fan. And "Casino Girl," the second in her series on Laura Baxter and Jack Holt, hits all the mystery-thriller endorphin triggers in my big fat head. It starts with the almost seductive death of a dancer in a posh casino. She dances as background while high rollers with deep pockets lose money all around her. Wolfe puts the reader into the dancer's big black boots, and describes her last image as she expires, slowly losing her ability to remain uprigh ...more

There's a good story here, but there are a lot of things to get hung up on, from plot points that don't make sense, to individual scenes that are ridiculous, to a really dreadfully conceptualized and written courtroom scene, to a main character who is so emotional, impulsive, and unprofessional that it's hard to take her seriously as a police detective. The writing is good at times, but weak at others, and the bouncing between the first person narrative of the hero's point of view to what's goin ...more

Casino Girl written by Leslie Wolfe is the second book in the Baxter and Holt series. Although it is second in series I think it could be read as a standalone. There is a slight carryover from the first book and a continuing thread regarding Laura Baxter's backstory which we are getting piecemeal but that is part of what makes the series so interesting by allowing us to slowly become acquainted with the characters but I don't think it would leave a first time reader overly in the dark. A Cold and Crafty Monster

Once again, Leslie Wolfe had produced a taut thriller. Detectives Baxter and Holt are called to investigate the suspicious death of a young exotic dancer. As they start looking into her death, things begin to unravel revealing a tale of jealousy and deceit, billionaires betrayed, and, at the center of it all, a cold and crafty monster.
A portrayal of young love quashed, this is a well-crafted story with plenty of surprises around every corner. There is a slight cliffhange

Casino Girl was an excellent book: Entertaining characters, fast pacing, a murder with multiple suspects, and two Las Vegas cops who are new partners with sizzling chemistry. What more do you want in reading entertainment? It was just as good or even better than the first in this three part series, Las Vegas Girl. This is the 2nd case Holt and Baxter are working together. They are getting to know each other and they are learning they both are keeping secrets. The crime and the dialogue keep you ...more

A good mystery with many suspects and surprises.

This is a good mystery. Det. Laura Baxter is strong and has a wide range of skills to perform her job. At times, she acts like a vigilante. Her partner, Jack Holt is a recovering addict. Together they investigate a murder of a Vegas stripper. Many of the suspects are very wealthy and powerful. For the most part, I really enjoyed it. There were two parts I thought were far-fetched. I will not say what they are, because I am no spoiler. Despite those

Casino Girl is a captivating murder mystery with a team of detectives who are more than capable of solving crimes and at the same time are both personally damaged individuals. Leslie Wolfe has become one of my favorite authors, his stories are always well crafted, and his main characters are always very well developed. While Casino Girl could be read as a stand-alone story, reading Las Vegas Girl first would provide a better understanding of who Baxter and Holt are professionally, as well as a c ...more

Casino Girl by Leslie Wolfe has everything I love in a thriller. Its non-stop twists, endless suspects, and perfect narration. I could hear exactly who was talking in this book. Gwendolyn Druyor added the right emotions to this book, and gave the various characters distinguishable voices. I loved how this book was more than just a murder of a casino girl. The Internal Affairs aspect added to the plot. I enjoyed the relationship of Laura and Holt. I did not guess who the killer was in this book! ...more

I wish I'd been able to review book 1 of this series before reviewing this one. I think there's some background of the main protagonists that I missed. But this is a very gripping mystery, and other than the obnoxious and unrealistic sexual tension between them, Baxter and Holt are compelling characters.

Gwendolyn Druyor expertly narrates this audiobook, voicing characters distinctly and appropriately without being overly melodramatic.

I hope to have the opportunity to review more books of this

Another great book by Leslie Wolfe.

Crystal, a casino dancer was murdered while dancing in front of an audience, but how?

Holt and Baxter has to figure that out. There is a list of suspects, and all have very good stories to tell.
Only who is telling the truth? So many possible suspects to select from. It took me a while, but I finally realized toward the end of the book who it was, just not how they done it. I just had to wait and see if I was right and how.

I love Las Vegas, and I loved the book.

This was a fast paced murder mystery that kept me guessing who the killer was until the ending of the book. With so many suspects to choose from and the ME working to determine the cause and means of the murder, detectives are constantly on their toes trying to solve this crime.

Leslie has crafted a suspenseful story in the heart of Las Vegas that made me want to keep reading to find out whodunit.

I heartily recommend this book to people who love to read mystery and suspense. You will not be disa

I found this murder mystery to be a suspenseful and thrilling read. The engaging storyline is well-written, sets a good pace, has sexual tension/attraction, intrigue, suspense, and twists. The main characters are awesome together as partners at work (perhaps as a couple in an upcoming installment). The H/h are defined and have great interactions. The secondary characters are also developed and intriguing. I was entertained throughout the book and rooted for the good guys. I voluntarily read an A ...more

This is my first book by this author and it's been an exciting adventure. This story is a massive whirlwind of twist and turns and more suspects than snakes on medusa's head. These two detectives have more than this case going on as previous cases and actions are now dogging their present and being held as weapons to yield when convenient. With tons of backlash and push back these two are getting the job done and ruffling feathers as they go.

Loved the action and suspense. The characters and the

Well worth the time to read!

I found myself wondering who had murdered the exotic dancer. I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure it out. I knew the obvious suspects were, well, obvious. I guessed who did it, but the mystery's solution was way more elegantly described than my imaginings had figured. Also, we gain more insight into our heroine. The romance does not progress much, but some interesting emotions are described. This is a good read--on to Las Vegas Crimes!
3.5 stars

Despite enjoying Casino Girl, I found it a bit slower than Las Vegas Girl, the first book in the series and the interplay between Baxter and Holt wasn't as humorous. However, I still liked both protagonists, especially Baxter. She was a tough, smart detective and has a love for high-fashion and make-up. She also had a strong sense of right and wrong, and was not afraid to help justice along when she felt it was necessary. I am looking forward to reading the third book in the series.

Detectives Laura Baxter and Jack Holt are fresh off the successful conclusion of their first case together. A case which could have been both of their last.
They catch another homicide, this one is the death of a young girl who was a dancer in the high roller game rooms of one of the most exclusive casino's in town.
They have to be extra careful with the case as it involves some of the richest and most powerful people in the country. Not mentioning one of whom is the State Governor's daughters G

Casino Girl

This story will take your breathe away! Leslie Wolfe has become one of my Must Read authors. Detectives Laura Baxter and Jack Holt catch the death of an 18 year old exotic dancer in a high rollers room in a Law Vegas casino. The main plot involves how this young lady died but there are subplots that just as interesting. The suspects keep increasing in number as the detectives investigate the crime. I would highly recommend this book if you like thrillers.
