Cinnamon Mercy Claus has been a witch for two years. At least that’s how long it’s been since her grandmother let her in on their little secret. She’s in the process of picking up her life and starting over, searching for something that means more to her than her mundane existence. Then a fairy drips down out of her bathroom faucet and tells her the moon’s gone all wonky and it’s up to Cinnamon to figure things out.
Since there’s nothing like a threat to the earth’s very existence to give your new life a kick into high gear, Cinnamon heads out across the country—with a talking dog and a woman who absolutely terrifies her—to figure out a mystery she doesn’t have a clue about.
To read about Cinnamon and her adventures at the North Pole, grab a copy of "The Witch of the North Pole."
Snow Eden loves all things magical and mysterious, witchy and weird. When she’s not writing, she’s usually wandering through the forest, hoping to catch sight of a fairy or meet a wicked witch. (Or a zombie, she’s not that particular when it comes to all things supernatural.) To keep on top of all her stories, sign up for her MAILING LIST (http://eepurl.com/c_9_T5).
This is the second book I have read in the Cinnamon Mercy Claus series. Although it can be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading "The Witch of the North" first as it contains a lot of details that carry over to this story.
This book takes place two years after Cinnamon learns she is a witch and, as if that isn't enough, that it is up to her to save Christmas one year when her grandmother (Mrs. Claus no less) has had enough and decides to run off and leave her granddaughter to figure out how to save the holiday.
In this book, Cinnamon is once again called upon to use her powers - and this time, it is to save Earth. Not a small assignment, right? She learns of this new adventure thrown her way by a fairy who drips out of one of her faucets. That'll shake you up as you brush your teeth for sure. The fairy tells her that something has gone horribly wrong with the moon and she is the only one who can fix it.
I am truly enjoying this series. There's a dog to love, all sorts of magical creatures, and a light mystery to boot. I wouldn't mind being Cinnamon at all.
I really enjoy paranormal books so I was looking forward to this one. Unfortunately, it fell kind of short for me.
Let's talk about what I liked, first. I thought it was interesting that Cinnamon was a witch AND related to Santa Claus. I also liked Ginger. She had a lot of energy and spunk for a talking dog.
That is where it ends so let's move to what I don't like. The author states at the beginning that Cinnamon is related to Santa Claus and doesn't even use that as a basis for her series. This just seems more of a random fact thrown in. Then you have a random faerie and a water slug just thrown in randomly. Oh and the water slug knows his runes. Follow that with some trolls to clean up her house and a weird woman that eats her furniture. Why? Then comes Ginger. Ginger is an elf that turned herself into a dog to fit in better. Yeah, that makes sense...(insert eye roll here) Wouldn't she do better to just dress normally? We have short people in the real world. The weird woman keeps coming back and eating whatever and anything she can find. She doesn't have a preference for anything in particular, I guess, and the author doesn't take the time to explain what this crazy woman is. As if the book isn't weird enough, let's turn the plot to the missing moon goddess. No moon goddess = no moon and this is horrible and we have to save the world. Blah, blah, blah.
Overall, the books was a jumbled mess. The author just decided to throw all kinds of weird crap in there and hope it all held together as a story. There is no character building or world building but hey it has a elf/dog that likes to drive cars. Oh and a crazy woman that eats bugs, people and furniture. The saving grace was that the book was so short. Yes, I am done and can move on to a real book!
Cinnamon decides to start over but is in for a surprise when she is informed it is up to her to save the world. With her friend Ginger, who has transformed herself into a little dog instead of appearing as an elf and a woman who consumes all Cinnamon’s worldly possessions, they set out on a cross country trip for answers only to return to San Francisco and find out what happened and hopefully stop the destruction that is coming.
This is a fun series with Cinnamon still trying to understand her witchy powers and two zany friends who complicate her life, but in the end help her in her quest. I like this series but think Cinnamon will need a vacation by herself after this! From the teaser for the next book I don’t think that will happen though.
I recommend this series as a fun read that will give you some laughs and smiles and also show that in the end life is better and goals can be achieved when you have friends who can help you achieve that desired objective.
I almost gave this book four stars just because I spent quite a bit of it confused. In the end, though, everything was explained, and I was content. One of the fun things about this book is that the main characters are also confused. They have no idea what they are doing until the very end, and then everything falls into place. There is something about Snow Eden's writing style that just makes me smile (and sometimes laugh out loud!) It's just so CUTE. I've read both small novels/novellas in this series so far, and I intend to read the rest. Mercy is just so clueless and clumsy and sweet (her dislike of dogs--as far as I can tell, brought on by fear--is a character flaw, but Ginger is taking care of that.) I'd love to be friends with her!
Different and strange but at the same time enthralling
Really good read but unlike anything I've read before. She has only been a witch for 2 years (when her Grandmother first told her) and having saved Christmas when her Gran had a meltdown, she unsettled in her life. That's why she's moving. Add a mission to save the world from disaster, a missing amulet, a familiar (previously an elf), a consumer (someone who looks like a woman but is more), a missing Goddess and loads more for a really strange plot that nevertheless you won't be able to stop reading. Great characters, all varied. From our uncertain heroine to the snarky familiar.
The Full Moon's Slumber, by Snow Eden, is the second in the series. In this book, Cinnamon, Ginger, and Mei must go on a mission to solve a problem that is plaguing the Earth. Like book one, this story is full of magic, adventure, and friendship. Masterfully written, this book wouldn't allow me to put it down until i was done! Highly recommended!
The first in this series was light and (mostly) whimsical. So that was my expectation starting this one. I was wrong, and pleasantly surprised!! As a voracious reader since I was 3 (50 years of reading this year, mostly 4-5 books a week) I don't get surprised often. This isn't A mystery per se... It's more of a quest. At any rate, regardless of what you call it, it's A very entertaining read!!
I enjoyed the characters and the overall plot, but I felt as if some parts were very detailed and others were hard to understand because they lacked details and seemed to jump without flow. However, I will read other books in the series, because it's clean and I like the characters.
Once again, a lovely witchy mystery. I just love the fact that Mercy is slowly but surely becoming a real witch. The adventures of the characters kept me reading on long past bedtime.
A different type of story but still with Ginger as Cinnamon's friend. We meet Mei and trolls, a few water sprites and a water slug. Not to mention a creepy island.
When Ginger shows up at Mercy's house and tells her they had to save the Moon, Mercy didn't quite know what to do. But since Mei had eaten her belongings they take Ginger's car and set out on their adventure. Get story and now I am anxious to see what the next story holds.
Another fun read!! When Cinnamon Mercy learned she was a witch 2 years ago and her grandparents were the Santa and Mrs Claus, she didn’t realize her life was so mundane. When she decides to sell her house and quit her job, she never realizes her life is going to be quite the opposite of mundane. When she is tasked with figuring out what is happening with the moon. Ginger, an elf and quarter witch, from the North Pole shows up in the form of a talking dog and Mei, a consumer, help her solve the mystery of the Moon Goddess. I would definitely recommend this book as well as book 1. I really enjoyed both of them and am looking forward to reading more about Cinnamon Mercy and her adventures.
