This book presents the concerns, visions and struggles of women in Chiapas, Mexico in the context of the uprising of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN). The book is organized around three issues that have taken center state in women's recent struggles-structural violence and armed conflict; religion and empowerment and women's organizing. Also includes maps.
I love this book. It is full of stories that reveal the character of these women far better than anthropological descriptions. Some of the stories are just amazing. The book changed my point of view of the nature of the conflicts in this area. There are historical details I have never read before, and had no idea about, likely because the news has been suppressed by the Mexican Government. The lives of the women in this book inspired.
